this bottle was pretty old, even a couple of years old, the store sold it as a double ipa, and i think its basically that, but maybe i thought it would age better than it did, given the gnarly awesome robust yeast these guys use and the way even this label says drink within two years, leaving open a pretty large window for cellaring. its not all that good, and has dropped off quite i bit i have to imagine. i taste a lot more malt than expected for the style, and the yeast is heavy, like it seems to always be in de molen beer, one of the tings i love the most about them. i very much like a yeasty ipa, but the hops dont really come through with much other than a balancing bitterness, so it seems off for the style, and the other flavors just seem too much. i also dont really care for the bitter lasting crackery finish, but i love the flavor of the yeast, and the mouthfeel is really nice as well. de molen can do no wrong in my mind, although this is far from my favorite, i am not writing it off or anything until i can taste it again fresh. amarillo hops are so awesome that this has to be more dynamic than it is. maybe they need to adjust the suggested best buy date, but other than that, im excited to see it again sometime. the bottle i drank had the plain white label, not the one pictured here.

Fabulous beer. Perfect match of hop to malt and carbonation. Both aroma and flavor have a richness of characteristics such as caramel, pineapple, hops, yeast, grain. Appearance is likewise excellent with huge long lasting head, lots of lace and hazy honey amber color. Great body. Super easy drinking beer. Wish I had more.

Lot of butterscotch in mouthfeel that overwhelm humble as for an IPA bittering. Alcohol though not really obfuscated. After all a pity for an ever-superb amarillo hops to end up in such a strange caramel concoction.

Hazy dark golden pour, with a really poor white head, just some froth floating around. Weird.
Rich citrusy hop on the nose, with some peach sweetness and caramel. Sweet honey and alcohol, hinting at mead, some hints of melon, persimmon, and a fresh herbal mix too.
Rich fruitiness, a "funky" kind, with kumquat, haw, persimmon, tangerine and lots of sweet white grapes far from standard Amarillo dry hopped IPAs. Honeyed melon too, some gooseberry, banana, a lot of stuff comes to mind. Caramel maltiness, really sticky and dense, really support the fruitiness from the front, all the way to the finish. Some alcohol shows up here, with some hints of mixed fruit brandy, and a mild leafy bitterness, not enough to dry things up entirely.
Still, the sweet fruitiness in the aftertaste is in now way sugary, but clean and rich, with a bigger citrus character now. Medium body, really low carbonation, a bit sticky and palate coating. Alcohol seems to get stronger, so better to sip.
Awesome fruity hops, a sweet Imperial IPA that really enriches your palate. And imagination.

Giant, white head, color is a cloudy sunny-yellow.

A large variety of aromas, malt, lime, grass, pine, sugar, grapefruit.

Sweet, refreshing hoppiness is mainly defined by sweet, exotic fruits, going well along with sweet malts. Strong on limes and grapefruit, supported by a fitting, lower carbonation, which adds additional freshness. Beer stands in great balance between sweet fruits and bitter hops, underlined by sweet, warm malts. In addition to that, a unique spiciness gives the beer a sharp peak. Beer is medium-bodied with a long bitter finish. Uncompromising bitterness is another notable aspect, which gets even more recognizable towards the end. Fruits, mainly defined by lime and grapefruit, do still underline the taste, while the malts get washed away by the bitterness - which results in a great tasting beer with a decent complexity.

Pours a nearly clear dark orange with thick, creamy and cream colored head, plenty of lace haphazardly trailing down the glass. Smell: about what I'd expected with a 5 month old bottling date... still plenty of the Amarillo in action, but past the point of the dry hop popping out of the glass. Orange extract, huge apricot, resiny note; quite sweet and slightly bready backing. Taste: caramelized apricot, orange juice, orange candy, sweet bread, resinous and slightly spicy. Definitely enjoyable and I imagine that fresher it comes off more like a beer that should be named after it's dry hopping.

Sampled at Lentebierfestiv 2016 in The Hague. Clear amber with a medium height white head. Malty sweet and medium to full bodied with notes of pine and citrus hops, as well as unripe mango. Very well done, one of those well made malt-forward IIPAs.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 14C). Bottle 33 cl - Bottled on 01/05/14. AROMA: medium/low fruity and floral aromas, balanced with a sweet malt profile. very prominent alcohol aroma but it isnt hot. APPEARANCE: deep golden/orangeish color and very hazy (dry hopped). good off white moussy head with good retention and alcohol derived viscosity. TASTE: sweet malty profile balanced with floral and slight fruity notes. high bitterness that lingers well beyond a medium-dry aftertaste. clean and smooth alcohol background without solventy character. PALATE: smooth medium body with a smooth warming alcohol profile. medium carbonation. OVERALL: although a nice IPA, its very high residual sweetness isnt characteristic of an imperial/double IPA.
