Served on-tap at O'reilly's into a snifter.

A - Pours deep dark brown with a creamy one finger tall tan head leaving light streaks of lace down the entire glass.

S - Smells of rich bakers chocolate, subdued dark roasted malt, coffee, tobacco, and a pretty decent sized dose of hops. There is a good bit of booze as well.

T - Starts off with a big dose of sweet chocolate slowly giving way to a mix of coffee, tobacco, caramel cream, hops, and the ever present dark roast. This one is pretty boozy, only getting stronger as it comes to room temperature. The finish is a mix of sweet chocolate and dark roast, lingering on the pallet for some time.

M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Big, sweet, boozy feel throughout the glass. I am not sure why but this one was working for me. Maybe after all those roasty stouts this sweet one really hit the spot.

O - I liked this one. De Molen makes some amazing beers and this may very well be one of them. I am glad I have a bottle of this one in the cellar already, can't wait to try it after some of this booze dies down.

Poured into a snifter.

This brew pours pitch black with a fingers worth of tan head that dissipates quite quickly.

Then nose brings massive chocolate at first. Super surprised by this chocolate knockout. There is a tad bit of espresso followed by some sweet caramel. Alcohol is present from the high ABV but it's not detracting from the quality of the scent.

The taste is just the same. Sweetness in form of milk chocolate, caramel and milk. The chocolate really stands out the most and is the highlight of this brews characteristics. Really working the buds and I'm enjoying this a lot. The alcohol content is a bit present but the flavors take over and manipulate this brew.

The mouthfeel goes a bit aloof here and has too much carbonation. The thick mouthfeel of the liquid would be better backed against a lighter carbonated method. Kinda hurtin' the integrity of this brew.

Overall, this brew is nice and presents a prime example of a chocolate dessert-like brew. The mouthfeel throws it off a bit but the flavors take over and I almost forget about it.

Poured into a snifter jet black with a tight sticky deep beige head that held thru the duration of the glass.French roast coffee and bitter chocolate mainly in the nose,as it warms a sweet shot of alcohol fruitiness comes into play.Highly roasted on the palate with some dark fruit-like sweetness, mocha flavors are quite big wich was to be expected. It's a very good imperial stout although it doesn't have any one thing that jumps out at ya,still it's great for the style.

Thin, but a nice balance of roast and sweet chocolate with flecks of burnt caramel. Aged quite gracefully.

Purchased at Winooski Beverage Warehouse, $9. 11.2oz brown glass pry-top bottle. Dipped in red wax. Brewed 03/07/11, bottled 04/11/11, bottle number 1537.

Pours a super thick black, no head at all. Nose is super roasty. Smells like a coffee liqueur. Palate is super cloying and thick, no carbonation at all. After the initial sweetness shock wears off, the flavors are like really rich coffee, earthy and forest-floor flavors come out too. Reminds me of those coffee hard candies. Maybe some toffee too. Long evolving finish.

Notes: This beer is a textural nightmare, but! the flavors are epic. Just wish there were some bubbles. It might age...hmm, who knows?

Pours a near black color with brown highlights. The tan head is short and creamy; leaves a nice frothy ring when it settled.

The aroma is of roasted malt with a twang of acidic fruit. Deep prune aroma with some carob. Some woody notes. A bit too sharp in the aroma.

The flavor is of a smooth roasted malt and milk chocolate. Some mild vanilla and caramel provide some sweetness. There is a subtle dark fruit/acidic note but not nearly as strong as in the aroma. Like a dark chocolate and caramel candy bar.

The feel is ultra smooth and creamy. Sweet and lightly bitter on the palate; some light tart notes. Finishes a bit sticky.

I had no idea what style of beer this was until I read some reviews. The aroma lead me one way but the flavor was of a sweet smooth stout. Very flavorful.

Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger, frothy dark mocha head.  Excellet retention only slowly fading into a thick, lasting ring. Large chunks of soapy lacing left behind.  Looks amazing!

Deeply roasted dark malt aroma that doesn't become burnt or acrid. Hints of toast, dark chocolate, roasted coffee bean and oatmeal along with subtle lactic cream and sweeter malt notes.

Medium bodied with a good balance of roasted malt, silky chocolate, sweet booze, lactic cream and subtle hops.  Chewy and roasty that verges on being burnt but never tips over that edge.  Lactic cream and sweeter chocolate notes balance things out.  Bitter earthy hops with a touch of pine compliment the dark chocolate, roasted coffee bean and oatmeal.  Complex, well balanced and easy to drink.  Slight boozy swetness and heat toward the finish but overall the high abv is nicely masked.

Bottle # 974 ... Not sure on date. At least a couple years old.

A - Pours dank black, slight brown tint to it. Not much head to speak of. I quit pouring before the yeasties were released.

S - Dark chocolate, rich coffee bean, dark fruits, brown sugar and that ever present roasted malt.

T - A dark chocolate bomb! Roasted malts and a little sweetness to add to the party.

M - Thin mouthfeel, low carbonation and a dry finish.

O - Pretty much highs and lows with this beer. Beef up the laggards and it'd be a winner.

Thanks to GRG1313 for gifting me this one.

Brewed 6/21/10. Bottled 7/20/10. Bottle # 004/1344.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a thick cap on top of the beer. A foamy lattice of lace that looks like sugar crystals coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, char, slight cinnamon, and alcohol aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roasty bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is quite rich and has some complex aromas and flavors.

Bottled May 15, 2009, bottle # 1038

Pours a very dark, rich dense brown hue that is not nearly as black as others in the style; little to no head at all even when a more vigorous pour is attempted. Oily and viscous looking coming out of the bottle.

Getting a good deal of booze up front on the aroma; rich roastiness, though and some bittersweet chocolate notes; a touch of sweeter plumminess as well. Just a bit hot on the nose for the booze still. Rich and roasty with fresh coffee flavor; some residual sweetness in the finish but not much at all; kiss of alcohol; and the roastiness lingers on the palate after each sip. Lush and viscous MF with barely any noticeable carbonation, rich body. Definitely a sipper, but a pleasant and warming brew. Hits all the good spots for the style even if it is a little hot on the nose.

Bought a bottle of this at Max's in Baltimore, MD this afternoon.

a - Pours a dark brown, almost black color, with light carbonation evident and one inch of tan head. Looks pretty great.

s - Smells of sweet chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, coffee.

t - Tastes of coffee, sweet and dark fruits, roasted malts, light vanilla, and alcohol.

m - Full body and low carbonation, smooth and thick body.

d - A very nice RIS. It looked awesome and had a great mouthfeel to it. Would definitely have again.

Bottled July 2010, drunk Feb 2013 near room temp in a tulip.

A - 3.75 - Black with a thin mocha head that dissipates fairly quickly.

S - 4.0 - Sweet malt like Sugar Smacks cereal of old, plus chocolate. Just a hint of something stiffer and roasty. Also a hint of something vinous.

T - 4.25 - All of the elements of the nose carry through on the palate. The prior reviewer mentioned chocolate covered raisins in the aroma. I would not have thought of that, but I get that note on the palate now that they mention it. Another reviewer mentioned a metallic taste. I got none of that until the very end when I was drinking the last sip full of sediment, then I got a noticeable metallic taste amongst the good tastes - I recommend skipping the sediment. Prior to that, the aftertaste and exhale consisted of a nice and manageable level of bitter black malt char. No heat.

M - 4.0 - Medium-heavy body. Not as viscous as expected

O - 4.0 - Very nice, and thankfully complex. Really expensive. I'm glad I tried it, but at this price-to-enjoyment ratio, I likely would not buy it again.

Bottled 1/13. Bourbon barrel aged at 10%. Pours a near black with very dark brown edges, one finger thick soapy light brown head. Settles to a thin layer with a few streaks of lace on the glass. Smell: chocolate cake batter. Tons of chocolate, no roast, sweet (faded) bourbon note, molasses and prune. Taste: dark chocolate brownies, tons of dark brown sugar, earthy note, toasted brown bread note. Mostly it's sweet and chocolaty with added booze sweetness. Full bodied, low carbonation, syrupy-light feel. Tasty.
