Black body with a multicolored foam, scented to dark grains of plums and smoke, seemed to me a bit more powerful and layered,it is more Imperial Stout than Rusian, but managed well

Coal-black body; thick, tan foamy head. Chocolate, charred grain, and boozy aroma; hints of vanilla and mocha. Smokey chocolate; subtle sweetness and low-key yet surprisingly forward alcohol presence in the flavor. Crunchy (yes, some sort of sugar crystals!), sweet and velvety.

My kind of big, dark beer. The bottle was poured from a red wax sealed bottle. Intense and boozy yet with an appealing sweetness that nicely balances things out. Depth, complexity, blah-biddy blah-biddy blah...seriously, this is a compelling and highly intense palate pleaser...

Big beer here we have, a lot on the chocolate, roasted but not heavily. Earthy hops goes well with the fig and berries tastes in the background. It has almost a mineral profil at the end with a good bitterness. The mouthfeel is dense and oily, the carbonation is low.

This beer grows on you at each sip. A great RIS.

L: Jet black color, no head whatsoever, plenty of carbonation.

S: Vanilla, dark chocolate, raisins.

T: Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, raisins. Superb!

F: Full bodied, yet highly drinkable.

O: Amazing imperial stout. Will drink on every occasion.

Look: It pours jet black with a dark brown head. Although the head is small, the head retention is quite good.

Smell: There are aromas of dark chocolate and coffee.

Taste: The initial flavors are sweet with chocolate, and then the bitterness of coffee and roast takes over.

Feel: It has a full body with strong alcohol warming.

Overall, this is a malt driven strong stout with minimal hops noticeable.

French roast coffee, bitter chocolate, molasses, burnt toast, raisins, fig newtons... enter almost any stereotypical Russian Imperial Stout aromas here and you pretty much get it; this is almost as textbook as they come, ladies and gentlemen. And it's brewed in the small town of Bodegraven out of all places.

Bitter chocolate is dominant from start to finish with coffee and dark fruit complementing the rich and intense flavor here and there. Some would say this beer is very straightforward while others would say it's one-dimensional; but everyone can agree that this is insanely rich, bitter, and to top it all off has an unbelievably dry finish. There was a hint of oxidization when I first opened up the bottle, but that has completely disappeared with time.

Medium teetering on being full-bodied; creamy initial mouthfeel, with some moderate booze burn. There's a noticeable difference in my state of mind from when I first started writing this review (first sip) to now (about 3/4th through the beer). I guess that's why the beer is called Hell and Damnation.
