French roast coffee, bitter chocolate, molasses, burnt toast, raisins, fig newtons... enter almost any stereotypical Russian Imperial Stout aromas here and you pretty much get it; this is almost as textbook as they come, ladies and gentlemen. And it's brewed in the small town of Bodegraven out of all places.

Bitter chocolate is dominant from start to finish with coffee and dark fruit complementing the rich and intense flavor here and there. Some would say this beer is very straightforward while others would say it's one-dimensional; but everyone can agree that this is insanely rich, bitter, and to top it all off has an unbelievably dry finish. There was a hint of oxidization when I first opened up the bottle, but that has completely disappeared with time.

Medium teetering on being full-bodied; creamy initial mouthfeel, with some moderate booze burn. There's a noticeable difference in my state of mind from when I first started writing this review (first sip) to now (about 3/4th through the beer). I guess that's why the beer is called Hell and Damnation.

Bottled 08 April 2011
330mL bottle poured into a Bourbon County snifter type glass. Pours black, one finger tan head. Fades to a lingering lace that's present throughout the entire time drinking.
Smells almost like Bell's Black Note. Dried fruit, sweet sweet smell. Not much else present but that's OK.
Sweet, not much roast characteristics present. Just a little bit of roasted character noticeable in the finish after a drink of water.
Super smooth mouthfeel.
Wow. Almost hitting the "amazing beer" level, but a little one dimensional. Maybe a little sweet, but not too sweet to finish an entire 330mL bottle
