330ml bottle poured into a snifter.

Very deep brown to almost black in color with some amber tinge along the edge when hits the light, the small tan head slowly builds up and recedes simultaneously to some bubble film atop and leaves lots of lacing spot yet lots of sediments behind.

It is heavily smoked and peaty in both aroma and flavor with notes of smoked barbeque and lots of intense peat, roasted malt too with its burnt caramel, roasted coffee bean, vanilla, dough, and dark bread while there is also rich espresso and creamy yet milky chocolate. Further than that, there are as well notes of licorice, some dark fruit in kind of prune and plum, yet some spiciness from hop that also imparts its modest bitter end together with smoky and roasted malt profile.

Medium body with rather low to medium carbonation through the palate, the overall feeling is pretty good with some smoothness and very dry finish. Smoky as silk Stout!

2013 vintage from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow:
Strong stuff from De Molen here, this one was a very aggressive & almost overpowering imperial stout that was very malty, coming through with plenty of earthy flavours & a lot of peat. The dark malts show the show here with a little vanilla & sugar backing them up but everything end up being just a bit too strong for my liking & the balance wasn't the best either. It remained very much a drinkable beer that got better the longer it had to open up & develop but sadly I can't see it being one that I'd go for again; perhaps if I enjoyed my whiskies a little more than I'd have appreciated this one better.

Smoky (no way!), smoken sausage like. Big earthy hops presence. Medicinal with a bit of band aid(that's too bad). A good mouthfeel, quite dry. A bit out of balance

Pours a touch thin and produces a good amount of head that I was not expecting. Retains a solid layer of khaki colored foam throughout and looks black but not entirely opaque in the glass even though not much if any light comes through around the edges; unique. Smell is very interesting. I have to preface everything I am going to say because Islay Whiskies are my favorite and you immediately get a peat smell in the nose which is lovely. I can see how someone may be taken aback by it though as it definitely stands out. Otherwise the smell is classic Russian Imperial Stout, roasty with hints of coffee and chocolate. The sweet perfume peat smoke blends excellently with the stout. The taste is truly something else. First impression was peat smoked dark chocolate. As it warmed you also got notes of caramel but is also surprisingly sweet despite having a dry bitter bite at the end (though nothing like other brews from De Molen). Definitely feels a touch thin and is medium low for the style and remains rather carbonated. Overall this is a great little twist and nuance on the classic russian imperial. The peat smoked barley really mixes well with the underlying flavors of the beer. A tad too sweet for my taste but overtly so. It was three years old when I had it; I would love to let the other one I have sit for a good long while as I am sure there is magic in this bottle that only time will bring out.

Also enjoyed at Amsterdams Arendsnest on 26SEP16, at €5.00 for a 0.25l draft glass. Ended up having two glasses...

My glass held a black hole of dense opaqueness. A creamy, short tan head left great lacing. Aroma was a big mix, with roasty bitterness, smokiness, and some peat-like characteristics. Body was medium-plus and oh-so-smooth!

Had some caramel malt, plus roasty, bitter dark chocolate. Some raisin and currant action came into play, with a floral hop flourish at the finish. Very nice!!

Just love the look and feel of this beer. So full of flavour. Get lots of coffee and chocolate but also some smoke and peatiness. Would like to age one 25 years... just to see

Served in a chalice glass right from the bottle right here at Cerveceria Esparte in Conil, Spain.

Appearance: Thin black colored body with medium to heavy bubbles. Tan head is straight tan which comes off extra bubbly.

Smell: BBQ meat with tones of coffee bean. Sounds awkward but I'm not making it up.

Taste: Wow this brew is all over the place. Smoked bacon covered with coffee and dark chocolate. Malty as it can get but full confusion to the palates.

Mouth: Full bodied with medium carbonation. The smoked after taste hovers the cheeks.

Overall: Tough to love but also told go to dislike, my wife didn't like it but this brew has potential. If you're a carnivore like myself you would greatly appreciate it. Always in a glass my friend. Salud!

33cl bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Smells of dark cherries, chocolate, roasted malts, smoke, bourbon, cocoa, caramel and dark berries. The taste is well balanced, with notes of roasted malts, peat, cherries, chocolate, some coffee and whiskey. Very nice balance, all the notes are kind of mellow and toned down.
