Bottle date: 13/02/2012

Appearance: Very dark brown, with a nice 1/4" of tan head that sticks around. No light gets through except for through the stem.

Aroma: Dark fruit and twizzlers jump out at first, with a strong sweetness, and good alcohol presence. Further notes of brown sugar and raisins come through, with molasses undertones throughout.

Taste: Much lighter body than expected, but still nice. There is some bitterness, but not a ton. Licorice and molasses come through most, with a strong alcohol presence. The roasted and toasted notes linger, but the sweet fruit/licorice flavors fade relatively quickly.

Overall: A very good beer, with a well rounded flavor that sits and lets you sip for a while. I'd like to try a fresh one, but there are no dated bottles in my local shop.

Pours a somewhar murky russett brown with an almost perfect light beige one finger clingy head atop leaving a full broken ring of lace as it settles oh so slowly.Fruit with a hint of sherry vinegar in the nose wich Iam not sure is a good thing but works here, wow it's fruity.Fruity and cakey on the palate with some cake notes, the finsih has some yeasty spice notes. The alcohol is kept in control pretty good and the palate is a fruit attack.I liked it and would buy again.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this 33cl bottle. Bottled 6-24-10.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is very heavy on the caramel malt and roasted malt, along with some dark fruit mixed in. The beer has no hops in the aroma and smells very sweet.

The flavor is heavy on the dark fruit, toffee, brown sugar, chocolate, molasses, roasted malt and some nuttyness. The alcohol is very well hidden for a beer that is more than 10 percent in alcohol. A very complex, very malty stout. Very drinkable considering the ABV.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice Belgian-inspired Stout from De Molen.

Pitch black pour with a very thin tan head that is slow to rise to the surface. Smells like dark cherries, almonds and roasted malts. Taste like dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitter cherries and a bit of coffee, as well as bitter hops. Smooth mouthfeel, flat and very bitter aftertaste.

330ml bottle. "Beautiful & Ruthless", eh? There must be more to that...

This beer pours a clear, very dark ruby hue, with three fingers of foamy, puffy beige head, which leaves some nice hanging swaths of sudsy webbed lace around the glass as it evenly abates.

It smells of lightly toasted, kind of grainy malt, some musty ashy notes, middling earthy black fruit, a bit of dry nutty coffee, and soft leafy, weedy hops. The taste is much fruitier, and fuller than I was initially led to expect - caramel malt, enveloped in rounded dark, slightly sour drupe flesh, some further Fig Newtons essence, a twinge of green Belgian yeastiness, biscuity dark chocolate, oily roasted nuts, and mild earthy, still a wee bit ashy hops. The big ABV does a stellar job of staying on the down low.

The carbonation is a tad sprightly, but generally even and structurally sound, the body a sturdy medium-heavy weight, and pretty well smooth, with just a subtle metallic burp from the booze barbarian at the gate. It finishes on the sweet side, the fruity malt flexing it muscles still, but hardly overdoing it with the latent floral, sassy hops having a thing or two to say in the matter.

Well, a decent stroke at one of my favourite styles, and with a north of 10%, integrated ABV to boot, quite drinkable. Now I can see my lost in translation error at the outset - this is, more or less, one of the Bold and the Beautiful, Dutch version.

Bottle at Bar Volo(bottled May 26, 2011). Substantive bitterness, very coffee like bitterness. The aroma is very roast. Black bodied. Lacey. A long bitter finish.Average mouthfeel, and a small amount of chocolate malt. More of an imperial stout. Decent drinkability, although something I may not reach for again. A bomber is a lot for three people.Slightly drying aftertaste.

11.2oz. Te usual ridiculous Belgian pour, blackish brown with the overflowing the glass cream colored head. Someone explain to me again why this is good? Anyways, looks how it should. Nice heavy lacing.

Aroma, loads of fig, brown sugar, prune and molasses.

Taste, baked brown sugar, plum up front pretty sweet. More toasted notes, malt and chestnut. Little bit of dark chocolate in there too. A nice earthy finish, peat, herbal hops, a slight oaky char. Pretty nice.

Medium body, but lively carbonation keeps it pretty easy to drink. Still coats pretty well. Really only a faint warming.
This was very nice, and much better than the De Molen attempts at stouts and porters.

Pours brown with a stupidly large head, crazily over-carbed.
Nose shows chocolate fudge, raisins, faint roasted malt, cocoa, spicy hops, soft booze and golden syrup. Amazing.
Very similar flavours, more chocolate, raisins, booze and golden syrup. The roasted malt is more noticeable here.
Thick, syrupy body; a little too much.

Bottle: Poured a deep cloudy brown color ale with a nice medium size foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of sweet Belgian-style malt with notes of dry fruits and light candy notes. Taste is also a nice mix between some semi-sweet malt notes with some nice candy-like ester and some dry raisins and plums notes. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very nice beer to enjoy by the fireside on a cold winter night.

Bottled 2/13/2012.

This one pours a fairly dark brown, with a surprisingly active white head- it never truly dissipated while drinking this. There's a little bit of lacing.

This smells like molasses, brown sugar, sherry (oxidation), raisins, prunes, acidic coffee, and prunes. I get a little bit of cardboard on the nose.

I'm surprised- but this honestly tastes a lot like Dark Lord. There's a huge sugary dark fruit character, and it's quite sweet- and the sweetness really does remind of that mythical evil being. There's some dark brown sugar, a bit of chocolate, and fruity acidic coffee. It's definitely oxidized at 5 years old, but I don't get any actual cardboard in the taste, just sweet sherry. I can tell this may start falling off quite soon, though.

This is medium bodied, a little bit syrupy, with a lower but still active level of carbonation.

This is a very interesting beer. I'm curious as to what it was like fresh, but it's still quite nice 5 years out.
