We salute the warmest month in the Northern Hemisphere with a lighter, crisper IPA of the Month. We started July with four different malts, then spiced her up with additions of fresh ground coriander and fresh grated ginger. A lemony tang from Citra™ hops in the flavoring and aroma stages provides perfect balance and a refreshing finish to this sweet, dry summer beer.

Another big ol' thanks to Wil for the bottle! Keeping the fridge stocked, mang! The cartoon girl on the label is nearly as hot as Jessica Rabbit. Pale golden is the liquid that glugs from the bottle. A slight haze is all that keeps the clarity from being crystal. Carbonation races up the glass to the majestically white head, keeping it well stocked. The foam is creamy, leaving chunky drink lines down the glass. She's a pretty beer, that's no lie.

The nose is dripping with Citra which would be pretty standard these days but what's unique is the bright ginger that supplements all those tropical notes Citra provides. Lactic pineapple, papaya, mango, and apricot all play their parts. Coriander adds a quick dusting of citrus that coriander usually provides, orange and a squeeze of lime. The malt base is neutral and merely an addition of sugar to balance the hop profile.

Ginger stands out much more on the palate. It brings with it a bright, refreshing quality that manages to walk the line between just right and overdone. Ginger hits first while the Citra actually takes a back seat with the previously mentioned tropical and apricot notes. The coriander picks up on the swallow and adds to the already citric heavy beer. The ginger really pops on the finish and lingers. Crackery malt lays a foundation.

This IPA weighs in with a body right in the middle of the spectrum and carbonation lively enough to add some zip. The finish dries up nicely and while the bitterness is low there still is some present and the ginger lingers. Drinkability is up there.

Foothills June IPA surprised the hell out of me last night and the July IPA is doing the same tonight. I can't say I'm usually a fan of spices or adjuncts added to my beer, especially IPAs, but the ginger is unique and refreshing in this case. It works incredibly well. All the citric qualities pop. This is a delicious, expertly crafted IPA. Would love to see this brewed again. Thanks, Wil!
