Frostbite Black IPAFrostbite Black IPA
Notes: The official beer of Jack Frost. Skillfully blended barley and roasted wheat malts team up with a big blast of flavor and aroma from Pacific Northwest hops. The result? A Black IPA as refreshingly bracing as a cold winter day.

Drinking from a fresh keg poured into a pint glass.
Appears blackish brown, with a tan head, with light lacing.
Smells malty, chocolate, citric.
Taste follows the nose. Bitterness that I like .
Mouth feel is medium.
Good example of the style.
I would definitely order again.

Pours a dark brown to black with moderate khaki head. Smells strongly of roasted malt, with chocolate and hop tones. Malt and chocolate dominate the taste with hop on the backend. Mouthfeel is surprisingly light. Chocolate and hops share the aftertaste

I'm trying this at my Bestie's in Charlotte. It poured a nearly opaque dark amber with off white head that is leaving a spotty lace some lace. The scent had hints of roast and pine. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of an off-tan color. Good retention and great lacing. Smells of piney hops, slight sweet malt, slight roasted malt, slight alcohol, resin, and a hint of chocolate. Fits the style of an American Black Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level and noticeable bitterness. Tastes of piney hops, slight sweet malt, slight roasted malt, slight alcohol, resin, and a hint of chocolate. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend.

Ruby highlights penetrate an otherwise very dark brown beer. The khaki froth reaches one and a half inches before slowly coalescing, leaving a thick coating of lace on a Speigle IIPA glass.

Fresh, juicy pine hops waft throughout while light roast malt and coffee beans weave their way into the nose. Warmth brings out light notes of charcoal.

Bitterness and sweetness are both prominent and relatively balanced. The roasted quality is light. Pine resin counters Baker's Chocolate through a long modest finish. The bitterness never subsides as warmth brings out roasted marshmallow crust.

My first impression of the body was that it was light. A few minutes later, the body seemed full with an almost syrupy texture. Alcohol is more pronounced than anticipated and the carbonation is fine and softer than anticipated.

As a Winter IPA, Frostbite is impressive. I think it improved slightly with warmth. The notes of marshmallow crust brought back welcome memories and will entice me to find this beer again next year. Thank you Meghann and Wayne!

Black color. Tan head with a fair amount of retention. I’ve not had a lot of black IPA’s...this one strikes me as an IPA that turns into a stout. Hoppy and very carbonated up front, but then it has a dry malt finish and a very delayed chocolate note. Produces a modest warming sensation.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear very dark cola brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and faint chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a medium to large sized patch of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of roasted + dark malts with just shy of moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit pith, citrus/grapefruit rind, and light hints of pine hops.

T: Upfront there is a slightly heavier than light flavor of roasted + dark malts with a hint of caramel sweetness. That is followed by a hint of chocolate malts and moderate flavors of herbal, citrus/grapefruit pith, and earthy hops with a hint of pine hops which contribute a light amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp upfront with a light amount of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink with the lighter body and the not as aggressively bitter hops as well as the well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable - I like the combination of citrus + herbal hops and dark malts.

It's a deep almost black. There is just a faint hint of brown at the bottom of the glass. The head is lightly foamy, light tan, and has incredible resilience. The aroma is lightly pine, mild but enjoyable. The taste offers much more dark roasted malt, backed up by the same pine hops. There appears to be some medium dark coffee in the mix as well and offers a little mix in the malt flavors. The body is the lighter side of medium and mostly smooth.

12 oz bottle served in a lager glass.

Pours near black with a large tan head that has legs and leaves patterned lacing on the glass.

Aroma: as expected hops, at an IPA level, with some sweet and dark malts.

Flavor: less dark and very dark roasted grains than earthy/herbal hops. Medium bitterness. Both hops and dark roast linger on and on in the aftertaste.

O: solid, mainstream black IPA.

I usually don't like black IPAs but this one is done well. I hesitated to get this at the brewery but it came recommended. Roasted malts were evident. A dark foamy head. Nice balance. I'd drink it again.

12/31...pours a virtual black out; flecks of brown and a ring of tan foam. Grassy pine nose, forest like. Taste opens smooth, rough coffee bitter, dark chocolate bitter close. Hearty mouthfeel. Well named and hits the style well.

I'm not a huge fan of black IPAs but this one is surprisingly good.

Nothing special to note - near black pour with fizzy head that fades immediately.

Nose is roasty and hoppy.

Flavor is really nice, great balance of the roasty and chocolately malt with a nice hop profile that brings a nice depth of flavor that is well rounded and not one note of burned bitter like some black IPAs. Not a go to style but this is definitely something I'd pick up if I was in the mood for a black IPA.

Pours a dark brownish-black with aromas of roasted malt and light hops. Head is average and lacing decent. Flavor is sweet malt, bitter hops and the balance is decent and mouthfeel is soothing..
