Hop Of The Month: Mandarina PilsnerHop Of The Month: Mandarina Pilsner
Notes: Only available since 2012, the German Mandarina Bavaria is derived from the Cascade hop, and is known for its distinctive tangerine, pineapple and lemon notes. The result is a distinctive citrus flavor profile, with a touch of sweetness, in this German-style Pilsner.

From the Growler, it pours a crisp golden with a moderately large, fluffy head. Fluffing on the sides as you enjoy the beer. Pleasant scent of fruit and grass. Pleasant bite of hops along with a dry pilsner finish. Yum!

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, goldenrod coloring, with a foamy, bubbly, bright white head, and a steady flow of carbonation throughout the body. Aromas of spicy grass and pepper notes, lemon zest, subtle tangerine sweetness, and a cracker backbone. Flavors are roasted and toasted forward, with a solid cracker backbone. Hops notes start bitter, with grassy and mossy notes, followed by a subtle tropical fruit blend of lemon, tangerine, pineapple, and melon. Smooth, full bodied beer, with a crisp edge from the carbonation. Fruity and roasted aftertaste, with subtle bitterness but a solid dry finish. Refreshing and balanced.

Pale gold beer with a white head and spotty lacing. Bright orange and hops in the nose. Tastes is orange and toasted malts with a really nice bitterness. This is a great beer.

Bottled on 1/27/16.Pours into a pilsner a dull lighter golden with a egg white sticky thinner white head atop.Toasted artisan bread and light tangerine-like hops from the mandarina hops.Man the subtle nuances of this beer make for an enjoyable session, lightly crisp but also with a bit of mildly sweet pizza dough along with some mint leaf and juicy tangerine and overripe pineapple all fit nicely into a "small" package.I really enjoy this beer, and I also enjoyed the Jan. Vienna lager.

Clear straw colored body below a dense white head that leaves drippy rings on the glass. Spicy hop aroma over doughy lager yeast and cereal grains. Crisp, peppery flavor upfront becoming more citrusy and floral. Solid Pils all around - not too far removed from Torch honestly. Light, easy drinking.
