People's Porter pours to a thick, lingering creamy light-tan head atop an effervescent, turbid deep-brown body with dirty ruby highlights; lacing consists of moderate rafts and swoops. The nose is fairly assertive for the style: a nice blend of dark roasted malt flavors, predominately cocoa, dark toffee and bitter chocolate. Up front, the palate is tart, thinnish bitter milk chocolate; mid-palate, a significant toffee presence and a hint of sweetness build in, joined at the back by faint alcohol undertones. The finish is a brief flash of molasses and toffee, followed by the onset of a moderate chocolatey bitterness that lingers awhile. Mouthfeel is appropriate for the medium body, and the texture is slightly creamy and peppery from the fizzy carbonation. (12 oz bottle, 241 days after pkg.)

Dark roasted taste with delicious coffee and chocolate accents. If I can find this consistently, it could easily become a favorite.

on bottle at Bald Head Island. Completely decent run of the mill porter. A bit thin, but roasty with hints of chocolate. Would love to try the barrel aged version.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a chalice glass.

LOOK: Pours a very dark brown/ black that has ruby edges when held to a bulb. About a finger of tan head that dissipates, no bubbles visible streaming upward. Good looking beer. Nice lacing.
SMELL: Roasted bready malts with darker chocolate and some coffee. Toffee notes become more apparent when beer is warmed
TASTE: Begins with toasty malt and dark chocolate and persists until coffee flavors and mild hop flavors come through in the finish. Very well balanced.
FEEL: Somewhat creamy and very clean. Does not linger very much at all. Pleasure to drink.
OVERALL: Overall I say this is a very tasty well balanced porter that is solid on all fronts, nothing fancy but does a very good job. Will surely seek this out again.

Draft. Pours a deep dark chocolate brown with a red hue. Full 2 fingers of tan head that quickly dissipated. Nice lacing during drink. Smells of a lot of nothing. Some chocolate, hops and toffee but real light. Taste is a traditional porter. Thinner than a stout of course in mouthfeel. Subtle chocolate, toffee, coffee with a tiny hop ibu. Nothing over the top or unique about the beer. A good solid porter. Barrel aged would be better I hope.

Incredibly roasty; not bad, but it leaves a somewhat funny aftertaste. It's good if you like that sort of thing in your porters, I suppose.
