Very Good
Hoppyum IPAHoppyum IPA
Notes: The recipe is simple. Take some hoppy. Add some yum. Nutty malts lend a surprisingly sweet base to copious additions of tangerine-y Simcoe™ hops. Great aroma, superior taste, clean dry finish. One sip will show you why this is our most popular beer . . . followed closely by a strong desire to take another sip.

They have this is my area for cheap. It's very hoppy, hence the name. it's very nutty and sweet as well as being hoppy. This is a solid workhorse ipa. It all comes together in a brilliant way. It's no two hearted, but very good. It tastes...fresh and is very drinkable and accessable to anyone's tastes. I could drink a twelve of this but I'd be hammered by the fourth one and I'm a big guy.

Looks full and rich, a light shade of golden honey/nectar, very slightly hazy, full, sturdy eggshell head lasts a good while.
Smell is clean, fresh and hoppy: mixed light citrus, herbal rainforest aromas, underlying pale fresh malts
Taste follows nose with a millisecond burst of almost bubblegum into bright malt & candied citrus peel, smoothly moving into a clean dry bitterness that urges one to have more! Excellent ipa here! Will definitely be having. more of these! Highly Recommended to those who like clean fresh ipa brew!

Drinking this at home, out a bottle poured into a pint glass
Appearance clear amber.
Smells citrusy that hit me the second I opened the bottle, aromatic.
Taste follows the nose, tangeriney.
Mouth feel is medium for an IPA.
Overall, A floral, citrusy treat that I would definitely order again.

12oz bottle, pint glass, looks like it was probably bottled on 6/20/19. It’s disappointing when breweries don’t clearly say when a beer was packaged.

Clear, golden yellow with a head that’s got really good retention.

Dank and tangerine, as promised.

Gummy candy, tangerine, and dankness. It’s a bit floral. The finish has a rough texture and is highly bitter.

Medium light body, gritty in the middle, clean finish.

North Carolina is a state whose beer I haven’t explored enough. This is a very tasty IPA.

Hoppy aroma with nutty undertones.
Excellent hoppy taste with some nutty undertones
Medium bodied mouth feel with a slightly bitter finish.
Overall, a strong IPA, but comes up short of Foothills Jade IPA.
Ranks a 7.5 out of 10 on the would you like to sit down with a 12 pack of this brew scale

Hoppyum is a local favorite (winston-salem born and bred). Served in lots of WS restaurants, more so than any other foothills brew.
Look- slightly darker than golden, and pretty clear. Pretty appealing look with about 1/4 inch head and good lacing.
Smell- okay so i may be theonly one who gets this, but personally, this ipa smells like straight up WEED (not necessarily a bad thing). Theres a little nuttiness in there too as well as hops.
Taste- refreshing nutty hoppiness like the smell, with a bit of weed taste in there too. It is a pleasent change up from the trendy sweet/fruity ipa’s that seem to be popular at the moment.
Feel- very light feel with good carbonation. For what it is, its not a heavy beer. Pretty crisp.
Overall- though i prefer the jade IPA from foothills, hoppyum is dang good and its a step in a different direction from other ipa’s. Try it out

There's a bottling code, but its not quite legible

Appearance - Pours mostly clear and golden in color with an off-white, near finger width head. Good retention before dying to a thin, broken layer of suds, thickening up around the edge of the glass. Strong lacing decorates the glass in broken sheet and webbing.

Smell - Dank, almost herbal hop aroma with hints of lemongrass and a faint biscuity malt character.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hops are prominent with herbal, floral and slightly citrusy flavors. Mild spice bite. Biscuity, lightly nutty malt backbone. Finishes much the same, with lingering lemongrass and herbal qualities.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a light, dry finish.

Overall - Kind of an odd IPA, but I give it credit for its uniqueness. Would I buy it again? Probably not.

I've kinda grown out of IPAs...but am rating this one as compared to other IPAs. If I want an IPA, this is my top choice. Smells of citrus. Not too sticky or syrupy. Strong hoppy, bitter taste, but not so much as to not be drinkable. I don't drink IPAs often anymore, but this is probably my favorite one. Noticeably better on tap.

visiting east coast and came across this. Look smell and taste of an IPA. A bit more bitterness on the back end then I enjoy but it gets the job done and will be a good memory of the trip.

Pours the color of honey. Nose is almost bready as is the taste...initially. The hops make an appearance late on the palate. There is a lingering flavor of bready and hop bitterness. Good beer.

As a North Carolinian I am always in the market for a local IPA. This beer is admittedly tasty with a nutty finish. However, I am particularly sensitive to coffee. It does not have anything to do with the caffeine aspect, but there is something in coffee which really messes with my adrenal's yet energy drinks sit fine with me. This IPA gave my body the same reaction I experience from coffee where my heart races and I overall feel not so great. If you have a sensitivity to coffee than I would avoid this beer despite it's tempting taste.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a caramel color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of malts, citrus. Taste is well balanced hops and malts, some citrus, mild bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an easy drinking beer, however, it lacks some of the punch usually associated with this style.

Hazy light amber with a white head, receded fairly quickly; Smooth fresh hoppy aroma; Smooth tangy pleasantly carbonated mouthfeel. Mild pleasant flavor. A tasty drinkable beer, enjoyable. Don't know if I can get it locally, but it's worth having again.

Fresh bottle in a cold glass. Good head and okay lacing. Tastes like a solid and hoppy west coast IPA. Good mouthfeel and not a bad aftertaste. I think the tarheel guys have done themselves proud with this beer.

Very clear copper in color. The smell, oh, the smell!: tangerine, mango, and SWEETNESS. It smells like its going to be super alcoholic - but its not. The taste is sweet, but not nearly as sweet as it smells. Its nutty and earthy, without any of the fruitiness you smell up front. Its very smooth and velvety. This is one of my very favorite NC beers! Definitely my go to when I'm out and about at random restaurants without a huge selection (its fairly ubiquitous here).

Hoppyum has a brilliant crystal clear golden slightly reddish appearance, with a thin light head that quickly vanishes.

It expresses a great singular sweet grapefruit aroma and strong hoppy bitterness that dissipates quickly.

Upon first sip, a straight forward crispy hops flavor hits you combined with high carbonation without background noise or defined fruitiness.

This vibrant crispness held off by high amount of carbonation parting to the zesty and clean finish. Hoppyum drinks as a hoppy straightforward single note IPA that makes for a smooth refreshing beer that drinks fast.

Creamy head of foam on the top. Nice amber color; lovely bouquet. Very smooth with very little bite. A great beer to buy in a six pack. I can see this as a definite go-to beer. I will look for this again - very enjoyable. Pairs well with sharp cheddar cheese and Triscuits.

20oz becher glass.
Pours clear golden, quickly dissipating off-white head, minimal lacing. Aroma is light fruit, malt-rich. Tastes of light tropical, fruit and smooth malt base. MF is low on carbonation, low on bitterness.. high on balance. A very good experience!

Another great hoppy IPA from my local Brewery, Foothills. The Taste is refreshing and crisp with a great Hoppy taste, but never too bitter. Pleasant aroma, very drinkable and just a tad "below" (for lack of a better word) Foothills' incredible Jade IPA.

They started to sell this ipa at my local ALDI for a cheaper price than if i would go buy it at a local food lion or harris teeter so i picked up a six pack. I did try this beer before but never rated it. To me this ipa has perfect balance. Not to boozie, or too bitter, even though i like bitterness once and a while. It is basically a good overall ipa that has a great bitterness to sweet malty balance and i would recommend to everyone that enjoys a good ipa.

This IPA was shockingly good and quite lives up to it's name. Very small amount of bitterness and more so of a sweet, floral and full flavored in the hop range. All in all, this is another amazing good brew from North Carolina with a perfect balance of all things bitter, sweet and full of flavor and richness. You'll find no watery weakness in this IPA.

Foothills Brewing Co. "Hoppyum IPA"
on tap @ Carolina Beer Co., Charlotte International Airport on April 25, 2013
$7.49 / pint

Notes: Cloudy orange body with a brass cast beneath a short head of white that shows only average retention (might be a dirty bar glass). The aroma displays grapefruit, tangerine, and pine over a gently caramelish malt base. The flavor follows with the malt acting as a support for the hops. Medium bodied with a standard carbonation. Dry hoppy finish with some lingering pine.

Cloudy orange-amber with a persistent creamy film.

Smell is pungent rug, pine, cat pee, grapefruit, and more pine--classic West Coast here.

Taste is not as pungent or bitter, with sugared grapefruit, and orange. A little dankness pops here and there.

Slick feel.
