22 oz. bomber poured into a lager version of the Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid comes out a dark brown with mahogany highlights when held up to the light. HUGE coffee with a little bit of cream brown colored head with various size bubbles. It absolutely erupts up to the top and you have to take some time pouring this bad Larry out. Actually some lacing too, not too crazy, but it's there.
Smell is good, really good. Good roasty factor, coffee/chocolate mix with a slight bit of toffee and hints of dark fruit. To top it off it's barrel aged, so hints of bourbon and vanilla. Good blend, nothing overly aggressive and pretty well blended in the nose.
Taste is good, but a slight step down from the smell though. Still the classic American porter flavors of the malt characteristics, slight bitterness from the hops though that I couldn't quite pick up through the nose. The strongest characteristic is the vanilla from the bourbon barrel. Nothing too strong though, it's all like a nice shelf beer that was barrel aged. Well blended flavors.
Mouthfeel is good, actually very good. My issue with some of these barrel aged beers is once you smell and taste them, one naturally expects a "big" beer, and this one isn't. Not that it's a bad thing, this could very easily be an up and coming style, I've seen several breweries botch this where Foothills has done a great job, I hope they set the standard. So the mouthfeel is thinner and lighter than expected. Still has a good carbonation level. Starts off nice and sweet and has a sharp but not too sharp finish from the barrel age, but not hot at all. Well balanced overall and SUPER drinkable. This is one you can split with friends, but you better have extra bottles on hand if you do, cause it'll go quick. Any craft beer drinker could polish a bomber off easily. Thanks Paschal for the killer extra.

1/1/21 - from brewery-filled growler 20-minutes earlier
A- Poured into a pint glass with virtually no head - 1/16" or less. Opaque dark brown with just a touch of ruby tint at the very bottom.
S- Moderately strong smell of bourbon with toffee or caramel and coffee that really made the mouth water.
T- Immediate rush of coffee with hints of chocolate. Overall the bourbon flavor is subtle - more noticeable in the smell and aftertaste than the taste - light compared to some other BBA's.
M- Relatively thin with medium carbonation that is more dry at first and develops a nice lingering aftertaste. Carbonation fades over time as it warms and becomes very smooth and more syrupy.
O- First time trying this seasonal offering from our dominant local brewer and I'd get it again - especially on occasion. At first seemed like a novelty, as the bourbon in the smell is more prevalent than the taste... made me think it would be great in certain situations such as a fire-side beer, or with a cigar, etc. but enjoyed it even more as it warms up and carbonation dulls - a slightly more 'drinkable' version with BBA tones than some of the other BBA's that have the dominant, overwhelming BBA taste and higher ABV effect.

It poured a light translucent brown color with a full inch beige head. There were strong aromas of bananas with some vanilla. As it warmed up, the bourbon became more prominent with richer notes of bananas. The taste was pretty much spot on with what I smelled. It immediately tasted like bananas with notes of chocolate - kind of like a Monkey Tail dessert. As it warmed up, it seemed the bananas were actually a derivative of the bourbon itself. It has increased in complexity with a sweet and malty finish. Its pretty light bodied in the mouth which is expected for its low ABV. This is a great beer, I love the notes of bourbon in a low ABV porter.
