Poured from a bomber into a pint glass.

Pours pitch black with large tan head that disappears quickly. Smell immediately reminds me of bourbon, sweet, malty, and alcoholic. Slightly roasted coffee aroma. Taste is boozy, very whisky/bourbon like up front, vanilla, alcoholic, but fading to a malty sweetness, followed by a rich black coffee flavor with a lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy, moderate carbonation, but rather thin overall. Definitely a beer worth trying, especially for one who enjoys porters.

Pours black from the bomber with a one finger kahki head. Smells like a bottle of Jack Daniels, along with a hint of roast. Flavor is roasty malts with a nice backbone of kentucky bourbon. In other words, the base beer doesn’t have enough umph to handle the bourbon. Lingering bittersweet chocolate. Low to medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel. Not too sweet or sticky. Not bad, but not impressed as this feels like a shot of whiskey in my beer without the creamy barrel complexity.

P: Pours a super dark body with ruby hues and a massive cavernous cap of cappuccino head. Thick bubbly lacing with nice retention.

S: Vivid bourbon aroma swells from the glass and encompasses a base of roasted cocoa, vanilla, toffee, faint caramel and chocolate chip muffins.

T/M: Sweet dark fruits, toffee and milk chocolate strike first then disappear to bitter vanilla biscotti coffee with a follow up of cocoa and bourbon. Taste of salty caramel, slightly smoked wood chips and cinnamon in the finish. Crisp moderate body with a semi dry finish.

O: Bourbon barreling is exhibited well in this robust porter. Complex flavors that change throughout the session. Easy drinking for the Borbon flavoring and a nice crisp feel. A great porter for sure. Cheers!
