Look - golden yellow with a two-finger white head that has nice retention and a good amount of silky lacing.
Smell - grapefruit, pineapple, orange, pine resin, sweet caramel malts.
Taste - pine resin is most prominent, but you also get sweet caramel and bready malts along with notes of grapefruit. It finishes with caramel malts and grapefruit citrus.
Feel - great carbonation and a thick chewy body.
Overall, this IPA balances hop complexity with solid malty notes while also being crisp, which is something I appreciate from the style, and the body of this beer is perfectly chewy and smooth.

A- pours a slightly pale golden hue, thin lacing and had maybe a quarter inch head which subsided after a few minutes.

S- a light and sweet ell, this beer reminds me if sugar and grapefruit combined. It's a pretty complex smell, honestly.

T- this has a complex tropical taste with a malty hint at the front and a great bitter hop end. Grapefruit is present the whole way through. It has a dank and hoppy flavor to it. It definitely has floral and grassy notes in there as well. Malty and hoppy finish.

M- medium bodied with just the right amount of carbonation to it. It leaves just the right amount of bitterness to it at the end.

Overall- this beer is AMAZING. plain and simple. Easily one of the best IPAs I've ever had. It has a great taste, smell, and aftertaste. Carbonation and the body is on point. This has everything I want in an IPA and MORE.

I have been excited to try this ever since it made its debut around 5 or 6 years ago. Finally got the opportunity at Raleigh Times in Raleigh, NC. Served on draft. Citrus orange hued with a perfect, stark white, foamy and fluffy head residing on top. Generous lacing with the head retention being outstanding.

Aroma is pure hop bliss. Full of citrus notes, mainly grapefruit and orange. Hints of lemon peel. Light toasted malts in the aromas as well.

Hop forward for sure, but also pretty damn balanced. Packs a bitter punch without giving one Keystone face. Hop flavor is awesome. Super fresh and fruity. Medium bodied. Clean finish. So easy to drink. As close as it gets to perfection in the style if you ask me.

Poured on tap into a shaker pint.

Half a finger of off white head presented, kind of sudsy. Hazy murky body a bit, yellow but with light brown through most of it. Lemon body on the bottom with murky brown up top. Virtually no visible carbonation, minimal lacing.

Aroma and bouquet just jumps and explodes. Ripping juicy melon and cantalope. Hop tropics seem to sneak in, with a matching light sweetness and juicy quality. I am in love.

Palate has a very noticeable and unexpected carbonation. It distracts just a little. Sweet melon matching palate, with hop bursting woody resin. Coating. Mild tropics with lingering mellow fruit that goes on forever. Honey light action that goes on forever, with a lip smacking coating.

Overall a stupid good ipa that is bigger than most DIPAs I've had, and really is memorable..

Bottle purchased at Bottlebox in Norfolk, VA.

This one pours a glowing golden yellow, slightly hazy but mostly clear, with a half inch head, and an absurd amount of sticky lacing.

This one smells like tangerine, mango, grapefruit, pine, grass, and perfume. There's a lot going on here.

This is one of the best IPAs that I've had lately. Up front, it's very floral and wonderful, with a huge citrus blast in the middle, juicy and fleshy- there's some tangerine, mango, and grapefruit in the middle here. The end finishes slightly bitter, and quite herbal, with a slightly peppery finish. If this is what Pacific Jade brings to the table, I like this hop a lot.

This is medium bodied, with a very juicy mouthfee, and a moderate level of carbonation.

An awesome IPA, really unique, especially in the finish, with how herbal and peppery this one was.

A--Translucent gold/amber, fluffy head, not much lacing.

S--Tropical citrus, star fruit, granny smith apples.

T--Follows nose, with terrific, balanced finish of sour apples and lemon.

F--Medium dry, refreshing.

O--Without question one of the best IPAs produced south of the mason dixon line. Fabulous.

Pours a bright gold with a nice one finger head. I didn't plan on reviewing this until I smelled it. This ipa means business. It's such a juicy aroma. Pineapple, mango, orange, some kind of weird exotic fruit I probably have never had, you name it. So tropical. Rivals any dipa I've had. Taste is fairly tropical, as well. Very fresh and crisp. Nice hoppy tingly aftertaste. The taste is a small letdown from the smell, but still really good. More pine in with taste. Bitter grapefruit rind and orange. It's not overly bitter or sweet. Nice balance but does a great job of showcasing the hops. Easy to drink, medium body and carbonation. Really a delightful beer. This wasn't on my radar unil my NC trader suggested it. I hope you all have a beer guardian angel looking out for you and sending you these hidden gems.

Poured from bottle

L: Crystal clear, schoolbus yellow. Active carbonation propping up a sturdy head.
S: Grapefruit and lemon
T: Straight grapefruit juice. Maybe more so than IPAs with grapefruit added! Spicy finish. No apparent sweetness or malt flavor. It's a hop bomb for sure.
F: Pretty carbonated for an IPA, which helps deliver the vibrant hop explosion. This was a fresh bottle so the oils last for days.
O: This is my top beer from NC so far. Its punchiness is very reminiscent of Alpine Nelson, though the hop profile is different. Easily belongs among the best IPAs I've tried, and I've had several of the greats.

Pair with beef tacos, smoked cheddar, pork egg rolls

Poured from a bomber into a La Fin Du Monde Tulip glass, courtesy of a trade with @humuloner22
A - 1 1/2 finger fluffy head on top of a beautiful golden ale. Decent lacing.
S - Fruit and citrus with some grassiness and pine in the background
T -Nice malt backbone with tropical fruits, lemon, grass, some pine. Some Lemon rind on the finish
M -A light feel with moderate carbonation. This beer has several levels of flavors which transition dry finish.
O: This is a wonderful light bodied IPA. The beauty in this beer is it subtlety, there is a great hop profile but it is not over done. Easy drinker but there is no reason to hurry with it.

Served into a Foothills pint glass from a growler

A: Yellow/Orange, not entirely clear but I was surprised about how much I can see through it. On the pour, about a finger's head which looks creamy and white. It settles down and lingers a little. Nice lacing on the glass, too.

S: Citrus grapefruit lemon and orange

T: See above. But serious, this is a great tasting beer. It's sweet and bitter, well balanced. It's almost like orange juice with grapefruit squeezed into it with lemon zest.

M: Mild carbonation, smooth.

O: This beer really surprised me. I love Hoppyum but Jade takes it to another level. It was worth getting a growler of this, absolutely amazing.

reviewed from notes on my last trip to winston last february. was thrilled to find this on tap as i was still reeling from missing the sex choc release.

Pours a merky amber color with a nice 1 finger frothy head that was slow to disappear, this just looks yummy. Smell is knock your socks off!! Citrusy hops all the way, unreal smell, orange and grapefruit in there. Taste is loaded down with citrus, with a fantastic dry hoppy finish. A bit of a grassy, pine taste, but one of the most citrus favored hops I have ever tasted. Went down ohh soo smooth, just right carbonation. This is so a keeper, cannot wait to get my hands on some more of this. Just awesome, really awesome brew.

Poured from a growler into a DFH/SN IPA glass

A- Bright golden-yellow with a creamy white head with lacing that slowly slides down the glass.
S - Crisp citrus nose dominated by grapefruit and settle lemon, orange and herbal overtones.
T- Much like the smell, grapefruit and settle lemon, orange and a slight apricot /peach. A good balance of the hoppy bitterness and slight malt sweetness. I very much liked the jade hops.
M- Good carbonation and with a creamy smooth finish.
D- This has to be one of the most drinkable IPA's I have had. Nearly perfect bitterness. Leaves you wanting to refill your glass.

This is a standard-bearer for southeastern IPAs - not so much in that it is necessarily the single best, but in that is incredibly well-crafted and delicious while being easy to come by.
L: gloriously glowing golden-orange color with two fingers of creamy, foamy white head with very good retention and incredible lacing - and when I say incredible, this was lacing that stuck and left a full sheet covering the glass - better than any beer I've had. Definition of a "5"
S: peaches and melon dominate, followed by slight grapefruit, orange, and pine notes with a bright lemony finish; delicious.
T: closely follows the smell, with many of the same notes. A distinctly tropical flavor afforded only by pacific Jade; complemented nicely by the orange of Citra. Melon and white pepper show up in fresher bottles! Not an overpowering flavor, but very well balanced. Light bitterness with a little honey sweetness from the malt bill. Very good.
F: well-carbonated with a medium-light mouthfeel that accentuates the light, tropical flavor.
O: if I were a new brewer looking to make a name for myself, I would try to make a beer exactly like this. What an impressive beer. I've heard there is some inconsistency between batches, but I damn sure got a good one. (Edit: all have been outstanding; fresh batches are some of the best IPAs out there)

Served from growler purchased 12/17 at brewpub

A - cloudy honor-colored brew with finger of tight bubbles. Tons of lacing.

S - tons of citrus with hints of floral notes.

T - bitter at the front, sweet citrus in the middle, more bitterness and grapefruit at the back. Quite good.

M - not as full-bodied as other top-notch DIPAs out there. Great aroma and taste but is moderately dry - personally prefer more sweet sticky finishes.

O - best IPA from NC hands down. Falls short of Coast Boy King and the other national brands (Hopslam...). Still excellent and glad I have another growler in the fridge.

I consumed a draft at Foothills and this review is from a growler purchased there and poured into a pint glass.

The beer is a mildly hazey straw yellow color with a 1 finger off white head that produces splotchy lacing on the glass.

The aroma is heavvvy grapefruit hops with amber malts in the background.

The flavor follows the aroma but to a more complex degree. I like these hops, bittering, flavoring, and aromatics. I like the medium carbination and mouthfeel as well as the dryish finish.

This is a great American IPA. I think it gives some of the big boys (Lagunitas, Bells, and Ballast Point) a run for thier money.

As the brew warms the scrupteous flavoring/bittering hops fade just a bit, but it still leaves that lovely grapefruit on the tongue and in the throat.

Hard to believe that just over 5 months ago, I DIDN'T LIKE ALES, yet after opening my mouth and mind, here I am enjoying this great beer that is brewed just 20 miles down the road. WTG Foothills !!

I passed through Winston-Salem with a suitcase full of Surly beers, intending to land some Sexual Chocolate. I did, but I also fell a little into love with Jade.

Described to me as a hopped up West Coast IPA, the staff at Foothills seemed to love mixing this with Hoppyum and Seeing Double, their standard IPA and DIPA.

Those were fun, but I'll stick with the Jade, myself. Made with Jade hops from New Zealand, it's a clean, wildly aromatic monster, with not too much sweetness or bitterness to drink in abundance.

And I wanted to drink it in abundance. I think Caleb, the bartender, ended up pouring me samples of 11 beers, including the blends. I left with a growler of Jade**, my new best friend. Until the next cask of Tea Bagged Furious, that is.

The next day, my sister, whom I was visiting, discovered that she was an IPA girl when I opened the growler. This was a beautiful beer, and I will be surprised if they can keep the magic in a bottle.

**I also left with two of bottles of Sexual Chocolate and an Olde Rabbit's Foot. Two bottles of Darkness has a way of opening a stash.

3/6/16 poured from 12oz. bottle to a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

L - looks are on point on this beer, translucid golden to light orange tones, off-white 1" head receding to 1/4" with good amount of lacing being left behind.

S - tropical, spicy and citrusy aromas enhanced by malty undernotes.

T - clean and fresh, getting some bitterness towards the back of the palate but nothing overwhelming. Very quaffable but not to the point where it takes away from the beer.

F - as stated, an easy drinker, goes down pretty easy in the sense that you don't feel the enamel from your teeth being ripped off. Alcohol warmth starts to show as it warms up.

O - this beer is perfectly well balanced. I'm glad to have come across an IPA that drinks like a session but it isn't. Should be up there with world class IPA's!

Hazy orange pint - explosive aroma highlighted by bright orange and grapefruit. This is a fantastic IPA - much better than hoppyum. Jade hops are quite nice - bursting with fresh citrus and cracked pepper. This is a must-have.

"on tap" at Ridgewood in Raleigh.

Near perfect gold pour, with a great combination of lemon and orange colors. No head and no lace, but great color.

Big blast of aggressive pineapple citrus in the nose. Really nice.

Big shot of sweet, estery hops right up front. Lots of grapefruit here. Near perfect finish with strong dry fruit. Arid.

Body is just right for the style. Stands up well to the flavor push.

Really wish they would do this year round. Always great to find it somewhere.

Pours a clear golden with just a touch of amber. Massive full head with excellent lacing that lasts. Very nice nose of citrus hops - grapefruit, orange and tropical notes of pineapple coupled with mango - over a slightly sweet caramel note. In the background, a hint of pine is also detected. Light medium body with an almost smooth texture. Slightly above normal carbonation level. The exceptional flavor profile is well balanced with hop flavor, light bitterness and sweetness. It begins with the citrus and tropical hop flavor profile of the nose, progresses to light bitterness with a peppery note and ends with a nice caramel sweetness. The finish effervesces into a mix of the full flavor profile leaving a slight citric tartness over a peppery bitterness. Exceptional seems a bit of an understatement for this world class ale.

Had on tap at Mellow Mushroom on 2/1/2013. Excited to try this after reading reviews but never finding it anywhere. Poured a bright, clear, golden amber with about a finger of white head that left decent lacing. Smell was exactly what I wanted: all citrus, predominantly grapefruit with a touch of sweet orange. Nearly perfect smell. Taste was crisp citrus with just the right amount of bitterness. Only downside I can come up with (and I'm really grasping here) is that the body is a little lighter than I expected. Still, an easy drinking, perfectly citrus IPA. I really hope this gets the six-pack treatment that Foothills is giving some of their better known beers - would be a regular purchase for me.

Sampled at Tyler's Apex. Nice appearance with a golden color and a slight haze. Minimal white head. Fantastic aroma with citrusy, floral and fruity hops. Mmmm. Flavors follows with serious hop flavor and a nice bitterness. Creamy smooth. Great NC beer!
