On draft at trio in kill devil hills nc

Appearance- clear bright IPA, light head nice lacing

Aroma citrus but not overpowering a little dankness on back end.

Taste- I had this as part of A 4 IPA flight and this was my fav. Flavor follows the smell. Refreshing

Mouthfeel. A little light but generally appropriate for the style.,

Overall- a very good beer that I enjoyed having. Nothing mind blowing but solid example of the style

12oz bottle in an IPA glass.

Light yellow-gold color with a modest white cap. Mostly spot lacing with a nice film from the cap. Fast micro bubbles through a slight chill haze.

Smells of citrus and tropical fruits. A touch of alcohol soaked grain. Slightly rank and dank.

Juicyfruit gum and caramelized malts.

Juicy, chewy and resinous. Thick body with snappy carbonation. Slight hop bitterness and the pepper shows in the lingering finish.

Lots of flavor and just the right touch of bitterness. It doesn't beg me to drink another after finishing the first one, though.

Look - golden yellow with a two-finger white head that has nice retention and a good amount of silky lacing.
Smell - grapefruit, pineapple, orange, pine resin, sweet caramel malts.
Taste - pine resin is most prominent, but you also get sweet caramel and bready malts along with notes of grapefruit. It finishes with caramel malts and grapefruit citrus.
Feel - great carbonation and a thick chewy body.
Overall, this IPA balances hop complexity with solid malty notes while also being crisp, which is something I appreciate from the style, and the body of this beer is perfectly chewy and smooth.

Poured into an IPA glass. Clear golden straw color with a nice foamy white head. Great retention and wispy laces. Huge tropical aromas of pineapple, mango, orange, and a bit of pine. The taste followed suit with big tropical fruit flavors and moderate bitterness. Mild malt presence and great feel. Just awesome.

So, how many hop-heads have become jaded by IPA? One sure way to overcome the malaise is to get jaded the Foothills way. Leading with Pacific Jade hops and a complementary array of Citra and Chinoook ensures a high tropical, citrus and earthy balance to shake hop lovers back to their senses.

Jade pours a common hazy golden amber hue and it carries a frothy, persistent, off-white head that hosts an array of citrus, tropical and grassy aromas. To taste, the upstart is toasted and crusted of caramel and savory breads- seemingly granola-like to the early palate.

As the sweet and savory upstart relaxes, the hops quickly take command- charging in with red grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, passionfruit, kiwi and melon. Off of creamsicle, the taste takes an herbal, grassy and woodsy turn as the final flavors are sharply resinous with torn pinecone, fresh grass clippings and an overall herbal dankness.

Medium-bodied and trailing with a touch of caramelized sweetness, the beer trends hop-dominant with a strong hop grip in the gullet. Very bitter and on a drying trend, the finish is long with stemmy, piney hops and with an afterglow of citrus peels.

Grapefruit oh so subtle but glorious. I like this ipa a lot. Notes of mango and grapefruit come thru for me but may just be me. Gets better as it warms in your glass. Will buy again if i can find it.

Poured from bottle

L: Crystal clear, schoolbus yellow. Active carbonation propping up a sturdy head.
S: Grapefruit and lemon
T: Straight grapefruit juice. Maybe more so than IPAs with grapefruit added! Spicy finish. No apparent sweetness or malt flavor. It's a hop bomb for sure.
F: Pretty carbonated for an IPA, which helps deliver the vibrant hop explosion. This was a fresh bottle so the oils last for days.
O: This is my top beer from NC so far. Its punchiness is very reminiscent of Alpine Nelson, though the hop profile is different. Easily belongs among the best IPAs I've tried, and I've had several of the greats.

Pair with beef tacos, smoked cheddar, pork egg rolls

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.

The beer poured with a clear body that was golden amber in color. The head was one finger thick. The classic looks were accompanied by a classic smell of citric American hops, highlighting grapefruit and tangerine. The taste was very citric as well, with some lemon showing up in addition to the grapefruit and tangerine mentioned before. The finish was very dry and had a hint of spice in it, and the aftertaste was very drawn out. The beer felt medium dense in texture, and the alcohol content was well hidden. This was a very classy IPA, even though it was not very bitter.

This beer pours a hazy yellow golden color with a 3 finger fluffy bright white head. Retention is very good and there are sticky rings of lacing. Smell is citrus, floral and spicy hops with a hint of pine. Taste is the same. Feel is lighter than I expected, smooth and slightly sticky on the finish. Overall a very solid beer. I would definitely have this one again.

Agitated two finger head with a substantial amount of larger bubbles dimpling the surface, close to pure white, while the lacing is wispy but sticks tenaciously. Slight filminess to the yellow-orange hue, falls short of copper, very few bubbles visible. The nose leaps out of the glass at you with tangerine, orange, lime citrus, rose water, pumpernickel bread, kosher salt, keenly edged pineapple, papaya, nectarine passion fruit scents, the earthy and leafy notes are extremely clean. Medium-bodied, the carbonation provides a consistent prickle and brings needed dryness to balance out that bodacious tangerine, lime, pink grapefruit citrus and sweeter pine and floral notes. Caramel and peppercorn both take hold in the mid-palate, again, the lemongrass-led leafiness is fresh and biting. The dark breadiness and saline nuances help anchor the finish and extend palate presence. Papaya, pineapple, mango, nectarine fruit steady and create a nice retronasal lift. The malts support without trying to take a leading role. If you like a good amount of textural tingle to your IPA this will hit the right notes for you.

Thanks to Beatjunkee for throwing this in his ninja box for NBS BIF#3. 12oz bottle poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear light gold color with less than 1/4 inch of white head that quickly dissipated and left very little lacing.

The nose was mostly citrus and floral hops, with just a hint of underlying grainy malt. Pretty similar on the tongue, with citrus hops dominating. Very light grain across most of the palate, and a bit of floral hops linger at the back.

The body was just on the light side of medium, and had very nice carbonation across the tongue, which made the lack of head on the pour even more of a surprise. Drinkability was very good, a good, enjoyable brew. Overall, an enjoyable, solid example of the style. Nicely made, and very tasty. Worth trying if you see it.

Appearance: pours a yellowish orange color with a 2" head that slowly falls to a thick surface covering. Moderate lace paints the glass.

Smell: citrus and some pine tones are most of the aroma components.

Taste: caramel, grapefruit, pine, mango, and some orange slices are wrapped in a nice bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp throughout.

Overall: a very easy to quaff IPA with loads of citrus and hop presence. I really enjoyed this one.

Cloudy pour with a good amount of foam that laced down the glass. Initially, huge citrus nose. Taste has lots of lemon, tropical citrus and a spicy finish. The mouthfeel was all wrong for me. Very bubbly, rough and choppy. Deal breaker for me. Better IPAs out there for me.

It appears a golden amber color, filtered with a small white head that dissipates quickly. There is not much aroma. The taste is certainly of bitter hops with a hint of citrus. it is definitely not a juice bomb. The mouthfeel is heavy and the carbonation is moderate. This is a solid IPA to be enjoyed slowly.

3/6/16 poured from 12oz. bottle to a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

L - looks are on point on this beer, translucid golden to light orange tones, off-white 1" head receding to 1/4" with good amount of lacing being left behind.

S - tropical, spicy and citrusy aromas enhanced by malty undernotes.

T - clean and fresh, getting some bitterness towards the back of the palate but nothing overwhelming. Very quaffable but not to the point where it takes away from the beer.

F - as stated, an easy drinker, goes down pretty easy in the sense that you don't feel the enamel from your teeth being ripped off. Alcohol warmth starts to show as it warms up.

O - this beer is perfectly well balanced. I'm glad to have come across an IPA that drinks like a session but it isn't. Should be up there with world class IPA's!

L: Slightly cloudy, gold color. Minimal fluffy white head with a lot of staying power. The head size continued to grow several minutes after the pour and sticks around through the whole experience. Lots of bubbles and lacing.

S: Lots of grapefruit and hops with a slight citrus zest. Initially sweet from the grapefruit, but mellows from the hops.

T: Mellow hops upfront with some bitterness in the middle. Finishes sweeter with pine and grapefruit. Leaves a gentle bitterness and citrus aftertaste.

F: Light bodied with lots of carbonation. Great drinkability.

O: Fantastic IPA! Great complexity on the palate with the flavors changing constantly through each mouthful. The average ABV and carbonation makes it real easy to drink. I'm very happy with this trade and I'm glad I have several more bottles to enjoy.

Look - Pours clear. Bright golden in color with a fluffy head.

Smell - Grapefruit, other citrus, and strong hops on the nose as well.

Taste - Very similar to the smell. Dry citrus and tropical fruits balance the hops wonderfully. Really has a nice smooth finish to it.

Feel - Love the carbonation in this beer. Really adds to the overall brightness of this beer.

Overall - This is a very solid IPA, and I'm impressed, considering this is my first offering from Foothills Brewing. Really bright, fruity beer that I can drink time and time again!

I have been excited to try this ever since it made its debut around 5 or 6 years ago. Finally got the opportunity at Raleigh Times in Raleigh, NC. Served on draft. Citrus orange hued with a perfect, stark white, foamy and fluffy head residing on top. Generous lacing with the head retention being outstanding.

Aroma is pure hop bliss. Full of citrus notes, mainly grapefruit and orange. Hints of lemon peel. Light toasted malts in the aromas as well.

Hop forward for sure, but also pretty damn balanced. Packs a bitter punch without giving one Keystone face. Hop flavor is awesome. Super fresh and fruity. Medium bodied. Clean finish. So easy to drink. As close as it gets to perfection in the style if you ask me.

Yellow gold with a small head. Lovely orange and grapefruit with a slightly jasmine nose. Just the right amount of carbonation helps you taste the passion fruit and star fruit with a slight peppery finish. A great lack of malt and sweetness... West coast style. Well done foothills.

Jade is a clear, effervescent gold beer that briefly sports a thin, slightly pebbly white head; lacing is fair and consists of slabs and ladders. The nose is big and bright: ruby red grapefruit is ascendant over more moderately-present cotton candy and juicy pineapple; slight alcohol overtones ride atop everything. The palate is big as well, leading with bitter pineapple; mid-palate, the spicy candy-like florals emerge, as does a significant citrus character, and some bready malt peeks around the edges. By the end, the bitterness has built to middling for the style. The finish is pretty clean, with just a bit of bittersweet candy-spice showing, and is dry with a good carbonation bite. The linger is a mild grassy bitterness that hangs on for quite awhile. Mouthfeel is biggish for the light body, and the texture is slightly creamy and peppery from the well-expressed carbonation. This is a solid NC IPA. (12 oz bottle, 27 days after pkg)
