Served on-tap at Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem, NC.

A: Pours a clear though almost opaque deep reddish brown in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and significant garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall beige head that slowly reduce to a couple of smal thin patches with a very thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of light fruit malty sweetness with apple and pear standing out along with some earthy hops and just a touch of nuts.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of toasted malts with some light fruit sweetness, specifically red delicious apple stands out. Following the malts there are some light hints of nuts and brown sugar. Finally, there is a moderate amount of earthy hops in the finish that lend a light lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin but nothing like it was before the Foothills reformulation.

O: Enjoyable but not anything I would go out of my way to find - relatively easy to drink and close to being sessionable. Much better than the previous incarnation, I'm glad the recipe was tweaked as it improved the beer significantly.

A - brown with red edges; thin, soft, off white, brownish head

S - caramel, piny hops, faint coffee

T - nutty, caramel, piny hops, some roasted malts

M - medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a solid brown ale. It's very traditional but with a bolder than expected hop character. It's not very robust, but it is refreshing and easily drinkable. A nice offering from Foothills.

LOOK: Deep brown with amber hues. White soapy head leaves lacing down the glass after every sip. There is a murk to the beer, which is allowable in the brown ale style. Free of sediment.

SMELL: Iron well water in the smell, very strong mineral, seems to be hard water and hops in the aroma. Im a bit sensitive because of a lake house in Michigan growing up. Warming up there is a considerable amount of malty caramel.

TASTE: Mildy nutty, with some grassy, earthy hop character. Malt and hops work together here and the mineral element in the smell is less so in the taste. Just a hint of toast or roasted malt smokiness. Delicate bitterness and finishes with a hint of sweetness. Agreeable and in line with the style.

FEEL: Full bodied without being too heavy, spot on medium to high carbonation. The nutty little finish makes the beer very moreish and drinkable.

OVERALL: A drinkable beer for sure. The taste is good and its smooth. I could easily drink a few of these while conducting outdoor activities.
