To be honest, I'm not sure why this place is on BA. It's certainly not a beer destination. While it may be cozy or old, it's not a beer place. Nothing out of the ordinary here...unless Fat Tire is rare :)

Service is pleasant, no food did I try. The place upstairs seems to have a nice menu, but it was not open when I arrived.

I went with the Batch 19 from the tap. Drank that and left. Decor is old (the scoreboard thing is just broke and dumb looking).

This seems to be a townie bar, which is not a bad thing. It's just no beer bar.

The food here is not worth trying so dont waste your time. Unless you go upstairs to Orlando's which has awesome steaks. This is my favorite bar in Estes. It is kind of broke down and not fancy but it does the job. The service is always great unless it is a Fri or Sat night during the tourist season, which is summer or course. The bartenders will often give free beers to frequenters of the establishment, which is always a good PR move. I chose fat tire when I go but they have others. The sign on the front says World Famous and in my opinion this is World Famous. Check it out.

The wife and I spent two nights in Estes Park on a recent trip to the Denver area. The Wheel Bar sat right on the main drag almost in what I would consider the center of town. The front entrance doesn't look like much other than an average watering hole.

From the main door you have now entered the upper bar which lies to your left. Plenty of comfy seats line this long bar. There are tables on your right and also in the front window area. There was also a lower bar that was not open when we were there. A Sunday afternoon in May isn't their busy time but there were still about 10 people there. Most people were playing darts or pool.

The beer selection was average for the area with two different New Belgium ales available on tap. I believe they were Sunshine and Fat Tire. They also had Coors and Coors Light as well as some Bud product.

The place honestly looks a bit rough but the service makes you feel right at home. The girl working the bar could not have been nicer and more helpful. This place is great to stop in for one or two after a bit of shopping in the area.

Where to start. As a former resident of Estes Park, this was an old stomping ground for me and many others during the summer (and winter for those locals). Estes Park is a quaint little mountain town and the base of Rocky Mtn National Park. There are not too many bar offerings, but this is my favorite. The atmosphere is the best in EP during the summer. This is a small bar where you and your frinds can hang out for hours on end and enjoy a competitive game of darts or pool.

There are two entrances to this bar. There is one on the street, Elkhorn Drive, and one in the rear of the bar, the Riverside entrance (AKA lower bar). At this lower entrance, also known as the lower bar, there are plush leather seats that swivel and roll and fit four to a table. This lower bar is only open during the summer hours (the seating area is open year round), but it is one of the best atmospheres in all of EP. Just relax by the fireplace and look at all of the tourists shopping for chocolate or hiking boots or anything else. The Big Thompson river lies about 20 feet from the entrance and its cascading waters can be heard from the outside patio seating area, where chess is played while sipping cold brews. The lower bar is my favorite area to partake.

There is also the upper bar, the part accessed from Elkhorn Ave. This is a great place to dart into after spending countless hours shopping at the hundreds of stores along the main strip. There is one pool table, one dart board and one shuffleboard. There are about 20 bar seats and then there are some booths around the outside walls of the bar. In the game area are four tables which will fit anywhere from 3 to 10 of your closest friends. Children are welcome at the bar until dark. Orlando's Steakhouse is located just above the bar, just up the steps. Great food but a little pricy (but what steakhouse isnt?).

Many events go on at The Wheel. They have the rubber ducky race over Memorial Day, and the Scottish Highland Games athletes always frequent the bar during the games, and then there are the tourists; thousands of them a day. This town has population of about 7000, but 35000 during the summer. A big hot spot for those in the valley.

If you are ever in EP during the summer, this is a must on the list of "Things to Do". This was the first place I tried Fat Tire, and I have been hooked ever since. One of my favorite places in all of the US, "Nagl's World Famous Wheel Bar".
