Notes: One of Boston's upcoming beer bars thanks to Matt Dohanian, who unfortunately left at the end of 2006 and the place has been going downhill since. Currently, the owners are looking to rent out the space, but not sell the property.

The latest rumor is that it's been "sold" and will not return as a beer bar, but something a bit more "adult oriented." Website is down, and no one answers the phone. BeerAdvocate will assume this rumor to be true until further notice.

Aaaaah yes. Way too much high octane and absurdly deliciously hoppy beers at the HopHeadThrowDown meant that come 7:30pm it was time to grab some fresh air and maybe hit a new bar in an effort to stave off a collection of Sumerian Beer Trances amongst the assembled BA masses. The consensus of opinion for the gathered BA Elite was that The Linwood Grille would be a great place to head out to, so as I always do what the BA Elite tell me, I followed them all. Thankfully I grabbed a seat in the back of Dan Paquette’s Car which made the ride here a little easier.

Once we left the wheels in the Parking Lot at the rear, a short walk had me stood outside the Linwood. I have to say that flat out it has a very unassuming street bar come dive club exterior. We headed into what was referred to as the “Back Room” by a few of the Bostonian BA’s. I have to say that once inside I was still wondering “are you sure we are at the right place?!?!”.

Simplistic and stark interior, base color schemes with the absolute minimal of décor mean that the large open area feels spacious and echoey at times when empty. Has a “just opened, but I couldn’t afford any furniture” feel to it once inside. Has a definitive work in progress atmosphere.

At the back of the Backroom a decent sized stage, given the venue size at least, looked forlorn and sadly unloved but plans are afoot to give this part a new lease of life I heard

The bar is to your right as you enter the “Backroom”, and it has a super collection of brews from some 20+ taps in the middle of the back bar. A great cross section of brews from all over, including some tasty West Coast offerings rarely seen in Boston. However, I elected to try the latest Harpoon offering from the tap first off, the Maibock 100 Barrel Series #09, but it was seriously underwhelming and on its way out, in fact it kicked not long after I left half of mine on the bar. Onto better things, I perused the bottled beer selection which is mighty impressive, lots of US and German favorites, too many to mention, but the Monks Sour Ale was stunningly good. Coolers below eye level at the back of the bar also cover the lower back wall - it is worth peaking over the bar to grab a look into them as I found a few brews that were not yet on the printed simply laid out clear and concise beer menu.

It’s all about the beer here, super draft selection and an excellent bottled selection, with no macros and all at very reasonable prices, and by that I mean reasonable for anywhere not just Boston, a veritable bonus for the BeantownBeerGeek. All this is backed up by a Service that is highly attentive and exceptionally in-tune and right up to speed, top marks for the Service and Staff.

Hopefully some addition (as opposed to improvement) in the décor will lend a warmer, more comfy feel to the surroundings – hey guys stick a few well-placed Sofas in here, it’ll work. Nevertheless, I would still make a real effort to get back here again. A fantastic way to end the HopHeadThrowDown with assembled BA’s and friends, perfect.

[update]I am sad to report that the decline of the Linwood continues. On a recent trip to the Linwood, it was apparent that the tap lines needed cleaning on the lounge side. And, some of the bottles are starting to show their age. One bottled beer was overly active; it was an endless foam volcano, and an IPA that I had was not spoilt, but it had lost it's hops. However, the Orval that I had was great. Also, some more of the better beers are still being replaced with more pedestrian beers. They tell me that they are having trouble selling the good beer like Moylan's. That's too bad because if it doesn't sell well, they won't be getting any more of it. My drinking companion commented that their formerly "stellar beer selection has turned into a Stella section." Replacing some of the tasties on the lounge side isn't such a big deal because they still have plenty left, but the changes have rendered the selection on the restaurant side below sub par for a beer bar. That's too bad.

Perhaps the reason why the Linwood didn't work out as a beer enthusiast's bar is because they don't have enough cooler space on the restaurant side to have a decent stock of tasty beers, and the lounge side, which had loads of good beers and still has an above average selection of good beers, has those loud and sometimes bad metal bands that inhibit conversation and general beer enjoyment.

The Linwood has undergone some modest changes. Instead of mostly catering to the beer enthusiast crowd, they have changed their selection to broaden their appeal. As a consequence, they have replaced Stone IPA with the Harpoon IPA. They don't seem to be getting the hard-to-find extra-special releases any more, and they have added beers like Stella and Bud Light. The good news is that they still have some nice beers on tap, and many nice beers in the bottle. You can still get a bottle of Moylan's or a bottle of Orval. I no longer see anything from Alesmith, and I am really disappointed that they no longer keep the Stone IPA on tap because it was my favorite IPA; the Linwood was the only place that I know of that always kept the stone IPA on tap. They still have the Mojo in a bottle, so I was still able to enjoy an IPA on my last visit.

The food is still just as good. I had an excellent arctic char on Saturday night. Look out for the specials as they continue to be the best deal in town. Chef Michael and his crew still make the best mac' and cheese in the world; and the chili is also top notch. They still remain true to the old Linwood by serving the best BBQ of any beer joint in the Boston area.

The service is still excellent. Nate, Martin, Andrew Jackson, and Sara were great, and they will be missed, but the remaining staff still do a fine job with a friendly attitude.

The bar on the restaurant side is cozy, friendly, and very approachable. The bar on the lounge side can be stark at times, and sometimes, especially late at night, it can be a hoot. I don't like it when they have bands because the bands usually play so loudly that one cannot converse with his drinking companions, and it can ruin an otherwise nice evening. Sometimes they insist that you pay a cover to get into the lounge side, and sometimes they will let me in without a cover if I promise that I am there just to drink the beer, and that I don't want to listen to the music. I don't know what their policy is on this. But, it can be a major bummer if you walk all the way over to the Linwood from the Fenway (D-train) or the Museum (E-train) stop, and then they make you pay a cover to listen to some loud second-rate neo-metal band that ruins the mood of the whole place. Lately, I have been avoiding going there on nights when they have a band. You can look up on their myspace page to see if a band is playing, but they still don't list the beers, which they should.

Overall, I'd have to say that the changes may be more enjoyable for the metal head and the pedestrian beer drinker; as a beer enthusiast, I cannot say that the place is as good as it used to be, but it is still one of the best beer bars in Boston.

As I mentioned, the best way to get there by train is by the Green Line. The D-train's Fenway stop or the E-train's Museum stop aren't that far a walk. The 55 bus stops right in front of the restaurant's door. The Kenmore Green Line Stop, and the Ruggles Orange Line stop are also options for people that don't mind a long walk.

As a side note, I would like to mention that I think it is a class act that this place still charges $4.00 for most of the craft and micro-brew quality beers. This is not only appreciated by their customers, but also their staff, as the round number means the bartender will more often get a full dollar tip instead of being shafted with the fifty and seventy five cent tips. Kudos to the management!

Stopped by on a Thursday night around 8PM with the missus and the place had about 6 people in it. Hmmm....I was a bit surprised about that and the empty bar gave the place a funny vibe. The quality of the beer on tap was good (Stone, Victory, locals) and it had a great bottle list (Founders, Hooker, great Stone collection).

But, it was worrisome that some of the beers that were originally on the tap list (Stone Ruination for example) were replaced with scrod beer and the tap list was a piece of paper that had all sorts of cross outs on it. Speaking with the staff (who were friendly and knowledgable), the old manager was gone and he was a beer geek and the new manager was trying to expand the bar's base besides beer geeks so the tap list was including more scrod. We ate some apps only and the food was good. The place was very cheap especially for Boston and a glass of Stone Old Guardain 2006 cost only $5.

Hopefully, the locals will keep an eye on this place for us out of towners to see if the changes that are underway take away the Linwood's BA appeal. But as of now, this is a great beer bar.

Okay, perhaps there aren't always many people in the bar. And occasionally the live bands can be a little too much. However, I love the Linwood! It's nice to have a relaxing place that doesn't get too swamped before Sox games.

The bartenders here are awesome--very friendly. They know what I like, and they're always willing to look around for something new and different that might interest me. The food is also consistently good--and Chef Mike is a great guy.

This place has a fantastic beer selection at awesome prices. The same beers at neighboring places cost a couple bucks more per bottle. You really can't beat it. The Linwood specializes in American brews, like Avery, Stone, Boulder, Allagash, Anderson Valley, etc. However, there are plenty of other brews like Unibrou, Chimay, Rochefort, etc.

Additionally, I've met some great people at this place. As long as it's open, I'll be at the Linwood at least three times a week. It's funny that people complain that this place is out of the way--it's so close to the Fenway stop on the green line. And it's only a 10-minute walk from Kenmore.

We interrupt the recap of Woody Him Forward 1 to bring you this breaking review.

I only got to the Linwood Grill three times in my lifetime, with the latest and last being this past Friday, along with Rick Suarez and Caesar of Unibroue and Tom Peters of Monk's Cafe. It always seemed to me to be a bit understated in its decor, but the beer selection was to die for. I was always in seventh heaven on my visits, since many of their selections were ones that I just would not see otherwise, as a resident of PA. I am a big fan of draft beer and would begin to salivate as soon as I looked upon their tap selection and then my heart would start to palpitate when told of the available bottles. It was with great sadness that I received the unwelcome news that they are about to close. I will hold onto my fond memories with both hands and I will allow this review to stand as my salute to one of the greatest beer bars that I have encountered in my extensive travels. Fair winds and following seas to both ownership and anyone involved in the Linwood's operation. You will be missed.

This place is awesome! The atmosphere on the bar side is good; there's a big open space with a mini stage for whatever band is playing there, a pool table, a couple of nice tvs and a good bar for sitting at. The selection was tremendous, probably over 100 different american and imported bottles. I was also impressed with the service, the bartender seemed to be very knowledgeable about the beers there. When I ordered a Delirium Tremens, he confessed that it had recently been put in the fridge and was not as cold as it should be. So, he recommended the Nocturnum, which I'm very glad I tried. He also gave out some free shots, one of which he took.

The food, I've only had one the restaurant side, but was very good southern style bbq. Value is not bad either, with even the rarer imported beers at about $5 or $6 per bottle, which is actually very good in Boston.

I'm lucky I live right down the street from this place.

This is the best "beer bar" in Boston. I wish that I could just leave that first sentence as my whole comment, because that's really all that needs said. The Linwood came under new ownership a year or two ago, and Matt (owner, and also a trombonist like myself) has changed it for the best.

They've got an amazing tap selection - 20 total, and almost all are great - some are exceptional. I really like the West Coast Brews (AleSmith, Stone, Bear Republic, etc.) that they get. It's rare to find such a great selection of those on tap, out East.

I think that if I still lived in Boston, I'd be a regular to the tune of at least 3 times a week. Prices were also reasonable, which considering the amazing selection was a shock.

They're located right down the street from Fenway Park which makes it the second best place to watch the Sox.

Bad live music was my only complaint, and I haven't tried the food. Go here for beer!!!

I stopped in here with some friends on a Sunday afternoon and it was EMPTY!!! We were the only 3 customers in there! We ordered some light food and chatted with the bartenders. They had nothing to do so one began building a house of coasters! Very entertaining and friendly staff. The food was good. The beer selection was a two-page printout of draft and bottle beers, a very good selection! This is one of those rare finds that never gets too busy but has a wide and inexpensive collection! If I'm back in the area I'm likely to retun here!

A and I decided to try Linwood after reading about it on BA. It sounded like
the Publick House and other Beer Bars with good food. And indeed it is.
The beer selection is certainly above average, but not quite as many
as I would expect. The beers are mostly American Craft Brewers,
which suits me fine, but A likes Belgians, and a few more of those would
be nice.

the food was very tasty and the staff friendly. We sat at the bar so we
only interacted with the bartendar, but the wait staff looked as if they
liked working there. No sullen faces or bad attitudes. I am sure we will
eat and drink here in the future when we find ourselves near Fenway.

I have been meaning to write a review of this great place since I've been there a number of times. It's a bit off the beaten path so to speak, which adds to its charm. It also probably is the reason why it often is not at all crowded. I like that. The beer selection is exceptional, right up there with the Publick House, minus the Belgian drafts. As for American craft beer draft selections, it might be unmatched. Usually you can get a couple Stone, Victory, Offshore, Avery, etc. choices. As long as there is not a Sox home game the parking is unbeatable too. Free, right behind the place. The food is really good too. I've had their burgers and chicken fingers and both were excellent. The Linwood is easily one of the best beer bars in Boston.

Perhaps my favorite watering hole in Boston, the Linwood blends an uncongested comfortable atmosphere with a craft brewed selection to rival any beer bar I've been to.

Each visit I've been able to plunk myself down at the uncrowded bar, chat with the friendly, knowledgeable bar keeps, and receive the briefing of what's NOT on the tap list. They have such a great draught selection from Avery Amber to Allagash Tripel, to the latest offering from Dogfish Head. The bottle selection is equally impressive, listed by brewery rather than country, including Trappists, porters and stouts..oh my! Where else can one enjoy a Stone Smoked porter on tap, preceded by an Anderson Oatmeal Stout, followed by a 22 oz. bottle of the famed Victory V12!

You can however order a PBR tall boy or request a bud light if you're so inclined. Arrrg! Located in close proximity to Fenway Park apparently demands this holy grail of saloons include factory beers as well in their arsenal.

The menu items cover a wide range of dishes and offers generous portions. Try the mini burger. There's nothing mini about it. At $3 it comes with bacon, lettuce and tomato, cheese and fries! The wraps and quesadillas are also very worthy.

This of course all takes place in the back room. The front of the house is a BBQ cafe style restaurant, with a diverse bar as well. Unless you ask someone, you'd never know the back door down a dark hallway under the faintly lit exit sign, opens up to whole other world of supreme beerdom! Enter and enjoy. But please don’t tell too many of your friends, I’d hate to see the Linwood become too crowded.

My wife and I went to the bar at the Linwood Grill Saturday evening around 6:30 pm for pre-dinner drinks. The building looks a bit sketchy from the outside, and the decor in the bar is not exactly upscale. On the other hand, it feels very comfortable and the type of place where you could hang around and shoot pool all evening. Very low key, and not yet crowded when we were there.

The beer selection is impressive. There were probably 15-20 high quality craft brews on tap. We had an Avery Salvation, a Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball, a Victory St. Victorious Dopplebock, and a bottle of Victory Whirlwind Wit. Prices were amazingly reasonable. All 3 of our draft beers were high alcohol, and yet we got full pint pours for $5 each. For bottles, the Linwood's price was just about what you'd pay at a liquor store. Incredible, especially given their very wide selection of bottles!

Service was great as well. The bartender really knew his stuff and gave us accurate descriptions of the beers that we asked about. He was very friendly and genuinely enjoyed discussing their beers.

I really liked this place and strongly recommend it. We'll definitely be back soon.

I wish I could review the two rooms separately as they're totally different experiences. I enjoyed the restaurant part a bit more. The food was excellent; bbq was delicious, corn bread dense, soft and warm, mashed potatoes chock full of flavor, creamy and real. Beer selection here was very good. I was able to get a Stone IPA on draught which is never something I'd complain about. Service was exceptional as the waitress took us in even though the kitchen was supposed to be closing. I'd give my overall dinning experinece an 4.5-5.0.

Backroom was completely different. I liked the band, as they were playing some George Clinton-like funk music. Really good bass player. The selection here is much more impressive. Amazing bottle list although I only drink draught at bars, my girlfriend was able to order the Lindeman's Peche lambic she loves. The draught selection in a bit disappointing, even though it's totally different from upfront, I wish they had more taps.

The atmosphere of the backroom was a bit disappointing. Even though the place has such great beer, I swear 90% of the people there were drinking Bud light, PBR, and Coors. They had some special $2 can thing and everyone was jumping on it. It felt more like a college bar with late 20 year olds instead of 21 year olds. But the mentality felt the same. Maybe I just went on a bad night but to me, the people there didn't fit in with that I imagine the bar was hoping for in terms of mature beer drinkers. There was a good amount of space though it was still packed. I give the back room a rating of 4.0.

I only went to the bar at the back. Its a large concrete floored room with a fair sized wood stained bar and sparse furniture. There is lots of cool American craft breweriana on the walls. The music is eclectic, I liked the fact they were playing RJD2 when I came in. The volume was loud but not to the point where you can't easily carry on a conversation.

The selection is absolutely perfect (to me). A wide array of cool and hard to find American micros (including almost all the Averys, Dogfish Heads, Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard, Victory 10 Year Alt ). Theres also great representation of imports, several Cantillons, Panil, Baladin Nora, all the Rocheforts, Thiriez Extra etc. etc. So many great beers I havent tried! so hard to choose.

All the beers we had were served in clean, appropriate glassware, and service was prompt. In fact all the bartenders were really great. They knew a lot about good beer and were super friendly and funny.

All I had were chicken fingers, they were very good. Big and plump and the mustard sauce was delicious. If I hadnt eaten before I got to the Linwood I would have ordered more. All the dishes I saw looked great and were huge.

The value of this place was out of this world, the food was cheap and the beer was very cheap. A pint of oaked AB was only 5 bucks, a bomber of Ruination was only 7 (cheaper than in most of the stores I saw it in!) the greatest deal was a Cantillon Vigneronne for only 12 dollars. If I wasnt pretty tipsy I would have questioned that price. Oh well, I really enjoyed.

I had a really great time with BeerPanther and his wife Amanda and Swedejay53 and his girlfriend who we ran into. At the end of the night we tasted a divine draft only Aecht Schenkerla beer (Fastenbier I believe?) that Nick had scored from a customer he procured a keg for. Thanks a lot Nick.

All I can say is this place is tied with Delirium Tremens in Brussels as the greatest beer bar I have ever had the fortune of visiting. Everything about it was spot on. The beer selection, dreamy. A must visit if in Boston.

Now my first visit to this place was last night at the Beer Dinner w/ the Offshore Brewery. I sure hope that the experience last night will be a repetive one. I expect to go back to this place many of times. The beer can never go bad ofcourse, and that will remain but the food was to die for, so give it up to Michael Oliver "Head Chef" keep it up.

How places like this go unnoticed for as long as it has upsets me, but I was able to find a new hangout for myself and friends.

The beers on tap are a rather impressive selection, one that I have not seen at other Beer Bars. A few Stone's, Offshore.... then the bottles were ongoing. Have those classy beers that everyone loves, from all 3 Chimays, to Duvel, Unibroue, Avery, and so on....

As has been said, the Linwood is really 2 places: a restaurant up front, and a bar in the back room. The restaurant has good atmosphere and is a solid place for barbecue, with great nachos and very good pulled pork and chicken. There are about 8 taps up front.

The back room has about 20 taps, and 75 or so bottles, as well as a full bar (which some other beer bars notably lack). The selection is excellent. Recently they've had Hooker Imperial Porter, Stone Oak Aged Bastard, Victory Storm King, DFH Worldwide Stout on tap. I've also seen Hercules Double IPA, Avery Reverend, plenty of BBC's, always a Lagunitas tap, and a Bear Republic tap or two. The bottles include a good Belgian selection as well as plenty of American Craft brews, all for almost no markup.

The back room atmosphere can be a little strange at times (especially weekend nights). Its generally well lit, with a pool table, a couple of flat screens, and occassionally a band. Usually the music is whatever the bartenders ipod has playing, so it varies a lot.

The location isn't as out of the way as some have said; Its a short walk from Fenway park or the Fenway T stop, maybe a 10 minute walk from Kenmore. Its also not an expensive cab from Publick House of Bukowski's. This bar is definitely on of the best beer bars in Boston, and most reasonably priced. I go in at least once a week, and never get bored with the selection. If you haven't made the trip yet, its time to give Linwood a try.

I've been to the Linwood Grill twice now, once in the front half (the restaurant), and last night in the back room (the bar). Both rooms are decent size, but the back room has a superior beer selection. On my first visit, I had dinner and the place really didn't blow me away, the food (pulled pork sandwich) wasn't particularly good, and although the beer selection seemed good, it didn't make sense that this place had received better ratings than sunset bar & grill.

Last night's visit to the bar half of the linwood really impressed me though. There were about 20 taps full of great choices without a BMC in sight. Looking further down the beer menu I saw a great bottle selection which included DFH Fort for $20. Thats hardly any markup at all, which brings me to the rest of the pricing here which was very reasonable. I was able to have a couple of my west coast favorites on tap here, Lagunitas Imperial Red & Racer 5 IPA. I'd had these two in bottles before, but they truly amazed me on tap. Had a great time here with the impressive beer lineup and even enjoyed an antelope burger... yes antelope. Give the bar here a try!

The Linwood is really two separate bars, with a "front room" and a "back room". My review applies mostly to the back room. This room is pretty stark, with a long bar on the right as you enter from the street. This bar seats about 12 with bar chairs. There are TVs above the bar in the bar area, which has some small, high tables, a shelf along a wall for placing your beer, and a pool table. The other "front" bar has more atmosphere, and so I scored it as sort of an average of the two.

On a recent visit I counted 20 taps, 47 American craft bottles, and 35 imported bottles in the back room (the selection in the front room is different). I am sure this number has gone up since my visit, as they are always improving the place. Many beers are offered in 22 oz bombers, and at very reasonable prices. The beer prices are quite notably low at the Linwood. I have had bottles of everything from Oak Aged Yeti to Cantillon Gueuze here.

The service has always been great here, and we have always been made to feel very welcome. Even when you have to make your way to the bar to order from the bartender, the service is good.

I have had the few here a few times, especially during some special BA events, and it was always very fresh and tasty. I have not tried many other items off the menu, but look forward to it someday.

A great place, with great beer. Too bad it is in a somewhat off-beat location (at least for me).

This is the best beer bar I have ever been to. They have not only hard to find bottles (Stone RIS) but for below market value. The Stone was $9 for a bomber and I saw a Yeti Oak Aged Imperial Stout for $8. Saw the same bottle in a beer store this weekend (a very well known one) and it was $9.35. The bar itself was rather empty. Maybe 10 or 12 people but the other side with the restaurant was pretty crowded. Had the meatloaf. For $11.95 it was good and filling. Will definitely go back there as often as possible. The beer selection was second to none and the bartender was really cool and definitely knowledgable. Let me mention that the guy next to me ordered the last Yeti Oak Age but they filled it with Old Ruffian. Unbelievable place.

This is definitely a welcome addition to Boston bar scene. The Green Line Corridor is really becoming a great stretch for beer. Going westbound from Kenmore, there is Cornwall's, The Linwood, Sunset, Common Ground, The Publick House, and Matt Murphy's. The Linwood is top-notch.

I did not like the atmosphere on the night that I went to the Linwood. I was in the bar area, watching a game. The room was very bare and cavernous, and there were not really any windows. Otherwise, it was a great experience. Whereas The Publick House has a great collection of both impotants and micros, the Linwood focusses on American Micros. I had a Stoudt's Fat Dog and an Anderson Valley Winter Solstice, among others. Stone was also well-represented.

I would like to return to the Linwood and try out the food in the dining room.

I have returned several times. While I do not like the room, I am digging the music and the enthusiam of the bartenders more and more. This is a terrific bar, while different than TPH, is certainly in the same league. Try the pulled pork nachos.

Additional comments since I hadn't been in about 8 months and the second back room wasn't completed yet:

Was at the Linwood last night for the Dogfish/Formaggio collaboration. Awesome! Well done, couldn't have been a better evening. Anyways, the back room is now complete and it looks awesome. The selection of beer was great and has recently dropped, but it's still good. This was one of the best beer bars in Boston. The selection of bottles is has dropped immensely as of late. There are more, better beers here, than at some liquor stores. The atmosphere of course is still the same, food still great with Mike still pumping out great eats.

Beers on tap and in bottles include but are not limited to---allagash, DFH, offshore, stone, smutty, victory, stoudts, lagunitas, great divide, brooklyn, boulder, avery, rapscallion, chimay, among others.

Prices are very decent (much lower than bukowski's) and the quality is pretty high. Go if you haven't been, you'll be overwhelmed!!!

Used to go to this place before I hit up class with a buddy. Usually no one was in the joint between 5-6:30 unless it was during the summer when the Sox were on. The service is very good. The bartenders are always attentive and ready to get you another drink and the wait staff seem to always be in a good mood. The head chef, Mike, is unbelievablely nice and talkative. The food is really good. I had the chance to sample the specials for the weekend since my class was on Thursday. Mike was more than generous to offer specials in exchange for my opinion.

Glad I finally made it to this place. Overall it's a great place. I must admit that I was really weirded out at first though. It was almost completely empty on a Friday night, with some strange fusion/funk band playing. But I guess I shouldn't complain as long as I'm getting my beers quickly and not elbow to elbow with a bunch of goons. Just sort of an odd scene, but I was there for the beer anyway. Great selection of taps, about 20 if I counted correctly. Lots of Stone, lots of Victory. No problem there. Also a bunch of other great American beers. Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure if there was one single import line. Don't quote me on that though. Decent selection in bottles as well. The bomber of Racer 5 for six bucks sealed the deal for me. That's only about a dollar more than I'd pay in a store, if I could even find it. I was pumped. Most draught beers are four bucks, pretty nice. Didn't eat any food.
Like I said, all in all a great place. So odd though to be in such a big room with no one in there. Maybe it was an off night for em, but I'll definately go back, for the beer alone.

Went here on a cold, lazy sunday night. Only a few other people in the bar.

Wait staff was particularly nice. We sat in the back bar, listened to some good jazz, and had a nice chat with the bartender. They even were totally willing to give free tasters in a shot glass, which was a nice gesture.

Beer selection was great, and HOLY FUCK IT IS CHEAP! I usually try to keep my reviews clean, but this deserved it. Bottle prices were roughly what you would expect to pay in a beer store. Most pints were $4. Love it.

We ordered some nachos. Pretty tasty. Only complaint was that they didnt have guacamole.

All in all, I would definitely go back to the Linwood - hopefully when more people are around. Pretty low-key scene, nice staff, and good beer.

N.B. They ran out of the oaked bastard 10 minutes before I got there. Grrrr.

Let me prefice this by saying every time I've been here it's been for a BA related event (yes, I'm counting Nick's tasting in that as well). Each event was fantastic with great people and tremendous beer.

Stone's throw from Fenway. Huge bottle selection and a good amount of taps. They don't carry crappy beer, and the prices are outrageously low.

Outside of the bar area the rest of the room is very bland, but I believe it's because the place hasn't been finished yet. I believe the first night it was open and we were all there they had just gotten their liquor license hours before.

I'm expecting great things from this place. Check before you head down here, I'm not exactly sure what their operating hours are at this point, but it's well worth finding out and getting yourself there.

Pre NEBF at the Linwood, I'm sure you saw us there. A table to the rear, Cantillon a-flowin', Randy wearing that suede Daniel Boone coat with the tassels and beads, Phil in his cub scout uniform ("and I earned this merit badge this, and I earned this merit badge that"). The other BA's in costume eyeing up them cool guys from Brooklyn. Ooh, what a day that was...
The room holds an "L" shaped wood bar seating about a dozen and a half, and a large wood bar back unit with panelled sectioned mirrors to both sides of center, where lies a great black & white of Ted Williams standing in the bleachers at Fenway at dusk. It's a real great print. Crappy bottled macros, a clock, steins, magnums, beer trays and neon beer signs sit above the bar back unit and a flatscreen to each side. Spot lighting overhead, painted red walls, big brick to the rear with another flatscreen, and a small nook in the front window with a beer counter.
The room forward of the bar holds a single pool table, 6 raised bar tables split 3 here and 3 there, a bar counter running the wall, flatscreens on opposite walls, and a stage in the dark rear of the room. Walls painted red & blue, mounted lighting and beer signage and shtick. A not so secret door leads you to the seperate restaurant side of the place. A dozen tables and a handful of booths, a bar counter, and an "L" shaped bar seating upwards of a dozen. The taps here are similar yet different from the ones at the main bar. Speaking of which...
20 taps over 2 towers; 10 on the bar and the other 10 behind the bar. A very nice selection of regional brews for this event (2 each from Allagash, Smutty and BBC; 3 each from Hooker, Offshore and Stone, plus Sam Adams 375, Harpoon Impy and DogFishHead Midas Touch. Guinness and Bass round out the selection. Great taps, but it's the bottle collection here that's the Crazytown special. The bottles menu shows some 65 American micros (Allagash, Founders, Hooker, Smutty, Anderson Valley, Lagunitas, Rapscallion, Avery, DogFishHead, North Coast, Great Divide, Anchor, Victory, Boulder, Stone, Ommegang, Bear Republic, Hair of the Dog) and 52 imports, mostly Belgians (Fantome, Cantillion, Rochefort, Maredsous, De Ranke, Chouffe), with a handful of German and English. A 750 of the Cantillon Kriek ran $12, which is just an amazing price (Actually, all the bottles were very nicely priced, more than it'd run in a beer store but far less than you'd expect to pay in a bar). Phil, Randy and I drank 3 of them, like vikings. I don't think they'd ever seen that much Kriek drank. Certainly, children were scared.
