Kappy's in Sudbury is located right on Route 20(Boston post road), almost dead center between 128 and 495. The store is a bit deceiving from the outside as it looks huge, but once inside only reveals a typical, very small warehouse style liquor store with sticky floors and smelling of stale beer/soda. Maybe only 10 aisles, all dedicated to cheap wine and tons of liquor with a single (3/4 as ΒΌ is dedicated to ciders) aisle of beer. There's also a walk in cooler for cases.

Beer selection is 6 packs, half cases and full cases, and that's about it. There are few Belgian 750's and even less Bombers (I saw a local Berkshire Bomber and that's about it). 6 pack selection is excellent though. All your typical macros, common American micros, full range of German and other Imports and even a decent selection of Craft's that come in 6 packs. So all the Sam Adams, Harpoon, Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn, Dogfishhead, etc, etc. On my last visit I picked up a case of SN Celebration, Spatan Optimator, Geary's Harvest Ale and Saranac Pumpkin. It's not bad all, just very limited to 6 packs.

Although there's really no walking around offering assistance in the store, I will say I was impressed as the cashier at check-out commented on the Geary's as he said he was a big fan, but had never had that particular one. So, someone knows good beer in here.

Convenience sums up this place. It's right on route 20 across the street from the Sudbury Crossing shopping center and Shaws, and for just about every commuter who lives in Sudbury, Marlborough, Wayland, etc, the easiest place to stop and pick up some decent 6 packs (the parking lot is always packed during the rush-hour commute). If you live in the area and want great beer, Julio's in Westborough 30 minutes away, but... for just picking up a 6'er on the way home, Kappy's is your best bet.

January 2010 update.

Since my first review this place has really improved thier 22oz and 750ml selection. The entire top shelf of their beer wall is jam packed with pretty much all your normal selection of bombers. For simple conveniece and selection, Kappy's has now turned in to my #1 go to most of the time beer store.

The Kappy's has a great selection of beer from many different areas and are constantly trying to stay ahead of the game. The actual store itself could use a little remodeling and if possible made a little larger buy for the most part it has what most people are looking for.

Kappy's is a good neighborhood liquor store. The guys who work there are very friendly and always willing to discuss different brews. (or wines) Having said that, this is not a destination location like Julio's Liquors in Westboro.

They do carry the basics that a beer lover would want and are willing to order for you. Business is brisk and this leads to pretty fresh beer. I have not run into any real coding issues here.

Certainly, more friendly service than the other liquor store in Sudbury.

Here's the venerable typical moderate size liquor store in Massachusetts. There are 15 aisles of wine and one aisle of beer. They do have many usual and unusual beers. Beyond the ubiquitous macrobeers and the usual microbrews, they will often have an unusual offerings, which is why I visit every other month.

This is an excellent store for stocking up on the favorites and, in my case, getting a case of wine for my wife. There is also a good selection of hard liquors. I wouldn't seek the place out, but if you live in Sudbury, Wayland, Maynard, or Marlborough this may be the most extensive provider of unusual beers.

If you live in the neighborhood, this should be your beer store. It doesn't have a great selection, just a very good one. It's got a good selection of local beers, and a pretty good cross section of imports. Local beers: Cisco, a full line of Berkshire growlers and bombers, Concorde/Rapscallion, Z-Street, Smuttynose.
Domestics: 4-5 Brooklyn selections, Ommegang, Bear Republic, Rockies Mojo and Hazed and Infused, Stoudts,
Imports: the basics from Germany, 8-10 different beers from south of the border, Duval, Chimay, Corsendonk, Hitichino nest white and Red rice.

The beer section is fairly small compared to the rest of the store, but I think this is one of the better beer stores in the area.
