Had this gem on tap yesterday at Bullfrog (love that place).

A - Pours an opaque raisin/mahagoney color with very mild carbonation and ultra thin lacing around the top.

S - Alot of complexity in the nose: molasses, honey, raisins, maple syrup, brown sugar, and lots of bourbon. This big beer smells BIG, that's for sure.

T - BIG! The tongue is greeted with a huge wall of dominating bourbon effervescence and molasses. Lots of honey, brown sugar, overripe apples, some vanilla, and maple syrup ultimately catch up after the initial sip and ends on a tangy molasses vinegar note with some mild hop bittering right before the big burn as it goes down the chute. This is definitely a big beer and after a few sips, on an empty stomach, I'm feeling the effects already. This is a very sweet beer and there's some candied sugar in the taste. The burn I was feeling in the beginning eventually dies down a little after the throat adjusts, but it's still pretty evident, all the way to the bottom of the glass.

M - Thick and frothy, huge heavy body, and leaves the lips with a sticky lipsmacking coating.

D - I'd give it a higher score but it's too darn big to think about having multiple glasses.

1 = Very enjoyable.
2 = "I love ya man" and high fives.
3 = Rock and roll fist pumps while pushing towards the Abyss.
4 = Being helped out of the bar since the stools have backs on them making it impossible to fall off backwards.
5 = Cryin' like a bitch the next morning.

You get the picture. Big beer, big sipper, big flavor. Drink responsibly and enjoy! Another great beer from Bullfrog.

Thanks to foofaa for sharing this growler. Originally intended to be Houblonius Maximus, a double (and then some) IPA. Instead, it ended up in Buffalo Trace barrels to age out.

A: The ale is a hazy color, a murky brown hue that looks like it has spent some time in a barrel.

S: The nose has plenty of sweet bourbon aromas, vanilla and coconut in a lush environment. The strength of the hops and the malts, both turned amped up, comes through as well. The malty grains are thick and treacly, a whopper. The remnants of the hops, still strong, sit well with the bourbon.

T: The full malts, concentrated and rich, act as table-dressing, setting the stage for the bold Buffalo Trace that follows. Boozy heat starts off but doesn't hang around for long. As the heat fades, the oak and its attendant flavors come through en force. Coconut and vanilla, bourbony goodness through and through, drive the flavor. While the heat is gone, the strength of the ale can't be hidden anywhere. Weighing in somewhere in the neighborhood of 14%, this is a Sasha Fierce level of, well, fierceness. Come for the bourbon, it is a knock-out.

M: The vanilla bourbon flavors, lively with a dash of heat, are superstars of the beer. This is an excellent example of how barrel aging takes beers to a whole new level.

D: At 14% or so, this beer is one to savor carefully. A would-be double IPA that has nicely transitioned into a rich barleywine. Great use of the barrels.
