Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Bullfrog Le Roar Grrrz glass. Acquired in a trade with Brian. Thanks man!

Pours a hazy amber body with a two finger white head that reduces to leave a ring of foam and spotty lacing.

Aromas are thick and inviting, there's a lot going on here. Predominately citrusy-funk, giving way to a mustyness, white grapes, oak, pepper, fruit skins.

On the tongue is a lightly tart citrus funk, musty basement, lots and lots of oak, champagne, white wine, bright fruits, finishes with a crisp, dry wine/champagne like astringency. Medium-light body, not very carbonated at all. Would have preferred a little more carbonation.

Overall a very, very solid Wild. This would definitely hold it's own against some Belgian gueuzes. Complex, balanced.

Very nice malt beverage. No off flavours. Thanks Mike Herman. Very smooth drinkable. Not so much a geuze as a lovely malt liquor. Very decent drinking and malt liquor.

A: Medium orange-honey with some golden highlights - hazy - pours with a medium sized, white head, fades to a wispy cap, leaves some spots of lacing

S: Not explosively potent in the nose, but funky and lightly sour - light acidity, lightly damp and musty - nice oak aroma, with some barrel funk, without being too woody - some light fruits, green apple - soft, clean pale malts, light bread

T: Smooth and funky - some sourness, but not particularly sharp - some lemon acidity and some damp, lactic funk - very funky, with some musty, damp cellar, and old oak - chewy wood - additional funk that is decidedly reminiscent of sharp cheddar - lemon acidity and tartness - some light fruits - some soft, pale malts at the base - lightly bready

M: Really interesting, as this is simultaneously very smooth and also sharp - nicely tart - on the low side of medium, low carbonation

O: More like Purrrz

This is unique. The sourness and funk are quite nice, and there is a lot of complexity. We were really at Bullfrog at the right time, as this is not the easiest beer to track down.

On tap at Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport, PA. Billed as Le Roar Grrrz 3rd St.

This one pours a slightly hazy golden color, with a very small head, and not a lot of lacing.

Smells like musty citrus, hay bale funk, stone fruit, and a good amount of lactic acidity.

This is the real deal. The taste has a really nice sweet and citrusy funk to it, with some really nice slightly bitter oak. There's some cheese rind, lemon skin, apricot and peach, with a sourness of about 6/10. There's a ton going on here and I like all of it. It tastes remarkably close to a traditional classic gueuze.

This is medium bodied, juicy and tart, with a expressive but not overwhelming level of carbonation.

This was an absolutely wonderful sour.

I enjoyed this on tap and this review is of a bottle we recently opened at a sour beer tasting I hosted.

Poured chilled from the corked and caged 750 ml into a glass.
The color dark golden with light hazy appearance with thin white head with very fine bead and wavy lace sticks. The smell is pleasing sour with tart smell and woody ester with light vinous odor and plenty of wild yeast with very juicy aroma light berry and subtle funk in the background. The feel is tany and tannic with medium carbonation and light acidic aspect with slight juicy grapeskin and mild sweet tart with astringent dry puckering quality.

The taste is exceptional -vinous white grape with woody barrel tannin and light lemony lactic acidic effect on the palate with slight earthy spicy and toasted nutty wood undertone adding complexity with mild caraway aspect as Alex noticed with lasting citrus type almost pith intensity but not bitter with a dry finish. Overall this is a wonderful wild ale -American style 'Gueuze' it is every bit as good as I expected after some time in the bottle. This is unique and wonderful with almost as much drinkability as you can get in an American wild ale. I would recommend this to anyone even those not necessarily a fan of wild ales it exemplifies the great qualities of the style.

Pour is dark deep amber with a tight white head. Nose is dusty brett funk, slightly sharp, a hint of cheesy funk, moderate tangerine fruitiness. Flavor is similar, gets a touch sharp, very light dusty funk, a touch sweeter than the nose, lime comes in mid palate with tangerine in back. Soft body, light carb.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle number is smudged.

Appearance - Hazy deep orange body. Big white head and great retention.

Smell - Smells fantastic. Herbal. Very oaky. Light lemon citrusy acidity. Smells kinda like Mamouche. Has that peppery characteristic.

Taste - Orange and lemon. Lightly tart up front. Has that peppery flavor again. Accentuates the orange. Pale malt. Dry grass. Woody in the back end. Fantastic.

Mouthfeel - Medium carbonation. Moderate sourness.

Overall - Well damn this is good. Truly impressive. Challenging the standards of great lambics in complexity.

750ml bottle from the 2014 release. Poured into a Drie Fonteinen stemmed glass 9/5/2014.

A- Darker medium copper body, clear with a one finger white head; good retention, plenty of lacing. Looks the part. [4.25]

S- Very focused, intense lemon, citrus and oak. You can smell the lactic acidity; and there is a slight amount of musty hay, funk. Not as much complexity as OGV, but this holds its own in terms of the smell. [4.5]

F- As the nose portends, this is a very forward beer, with plenty of lemon and oak. Lots of lactic acidity and vinegar that balances out overall to create a very sour AWA. The lemon reminds me a lot of Drie Fonteinen's signature flavours, although there is a bit less funk to be found in this one. Fairly complex but understandably not as complex as the better lambics I've had; but you could definitely convince me this was a Belgian brewed wild ale. As it is, it is heads and shoulders above the likes of Boon, Lindeman's, etc and approaches the level of Armand. [4.5]

M- Medium bodied, substantial feel that is soft and peppery at the same time. Plenty of carbonation that coats the tongue in oaky lemon tartness and then evaporates, leaving it dry and refreshed. Very good, and in my opinion the best part of the beer. [4.75]

O- This AWA is the closest one I've had that could trick me into thinking it was blended in Belgium. At the same time, given the hype and what it takes to get a bottle of this, I'm thinking you might as well invest in the real thing! Still, this was a true pleasure to drink and comes highly recommended. [4.5]

Huge thanks to Awet for busting open his set for us at Pre-Ffej the other night.

A - Pours slightly hazy golden yellow with a nice one finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of musty basement, yogurt, lemon rind, earthy funk, dash of blue cheese and some mild lactic sourness. The drie fonteinen side really shines through in the aroma.

T - Starts off with a lemon yogurt twang quickly being joined by the earthen funk, wet hey, barnyard funk, some aged cheesiness and woody oak tannins. Finish is quite dry, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Crisp, dry feel with a bit of that american twang to it. The feel is pretty much spot on.

O - I had this one on draft about a year ago and it was pretty good but still a little raw. It has really come into its own in the meantime, boding very well for the future. As it is, this is definitely one of the best attempts by an american brewery to make a true gueuze.

Unlabeled bottle provided by Frank. A really nice tick. 750ml bottle into a Cantillon balloon glass. Reviewed from notes.

Beer is a dark, cloudy apricot color. Thin white head with webbed, spotty lace with great stick. A real pretty beer.

Nose is hay, plastic, lemon rind, apricot, wood, and cheesy funk. Hugely complex.

Opens lemon and apricot tartness. A foamy pucker in the middle with notes of hay, wood, cheese and cobweb funk. Very gueuze-y. End is tart and puckering with a moss and rotting wood finish. Very deep and well put together. Shocking this is an American wild.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Smooth, slick and light in the mouth and goes down foamy and filmy. Puckering finish with a lingering aftertaste that coats the palate. Excellent.

This is easily one of the best American Wild ales I've come across and it definitely gives some Belgian gueuzes a run for their money. I can't wait for this one to get released.

Unlabeled bottle, pre release. Drank next to some world class geuze and certainly held its own.

Amber color with beautiful carbonation. Light funk with a suttle fruit note on the nose.

Taste was very well rounded, nice contrast between funk and fruit. If i didnt know better i would certainly believe this was from belgium. I remember frank saying bull frog would be brewing more traditional belgian lambic and he wasn’t kidding. Looks like this is the sign of good things to come

750ml unlabeled bottle from Alex via Frank...thank you both for sharing!

Pours a straw/orange color, white head, thin collar, spotty lace. Nose is very similar to that of popular Belgian Gueuze...lemon zest, citrus, funk, some oak. Flavor is funky sourness, citrus, some subtle sweetness, zest, oak. This American Wild has some characteristics of an aged Gueuze, and I'm not exaggerating at all...think 2010 or so 3F/Cantillon. Body is light, zesty carbonation, dry finish.

Overall, probably the closet American Wild to Belgian Gueuze I've ever had. This beer is better then even the old-school beers from the previous brewer (Black Cherry Bomb, Beekeeper, Blue Cheer, etc.). We were all basically blown away by how comparable this is to a true Belgian Gueuze...I have to say, very impressed. Keep up the good work, Nate!

Bottle from Frank - much thanks sir! Served in a tulip and shared with friends at Northdown's Lions, Tigers, and Beers.

A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and splotchy lacework. Lightly hazed golden body.

S - Musty, earthy funk, with some lactic sourness, and perhaps a hint of forest floor. Some tart stone fruits, but definitely more on the 3 Fonteinen side of things. A touch of blue cheese comes out as the beer warms up. Extremely gueuze-like.

T - The taste is significantly more acidic, with tart grapeskins, stone fruits, a bit of bright citrus. Not nearly as funky as the aroma, with significantly more sourness; decidedly more Cantillon on the flavor side of things.

M - Dry, moisture-obliterating texture, with pleasant carbonation. Medium-light in body, and quite crisp and refreshing. On the acidic side of the spectrum, but never grows fatiguing.

D - It tastes like gueuze, which was the whole point of this experiment. Quite an achievement for an American brewery to make something this authentically Belgian. I preferred this to the Cantillon gueuze that was on-tap, and would happily drink the entire 750ml on my own. Bullfrog is back with a vengeance here.

Pours a golden orange with a half inch head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma is lemon, and barnyard funk with a slight mineral tang. Very reminiscent of 3f Oud Gueuze, but not quite as pronounced.

Taste is right in line with the aroma. Funk, citrus, and the flinty minerality I love in a good gueuze. We opened this next to a 2012 Cantillion and 3F oud gueuze and it definitely held its own. Half of our group actually thought it tasted a bit more mature than the other 2.

Carbonation is on point for the style and mouthfeel is excellent.

Overall: This tastes like gueuze....quality gueuze...and that is as high of a compliment as I can give a beer.

Draft offering at bullfrog served still during the release of Oud 15. The chalk board announced this brew as "le roar grrrz" a still lambic aged in oak. It appears a mild hazed copper color with a few large bubbles that hang around the edges.

The smell is super lemony lactic with a huge note of funk and oak with a bit of diaper and vinegar. Overall a solid smelling lambic that immediately made me think classic cantillon and drie fonteinen but with a little twist.

The taste is lemony tart initially giving way to funk and fruity notes that are minorly tropical with earth and some raw oakiness. A mild vinegar inclusion that gets almost briny at times with some minerals across the back. The more I sip this it goes from tart to straight up acedic with some serious enamel stripping power.

This is medium bodied with a dry tannic feel and acidic burn. Being still did not distract from the experience at all. This was a pretty freaking awesome attempt at recreating a lambic and im sure if blended could have some serious potential. It wasnt until after the fact that I learned this is the direction the barrel againg is taking at Bullfrog and this was infact made with Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen dregs. Color me impressed.
