- E. Flanders sour brown with sour cherries 7%. Served on tap from a chalice.

A: Whispy small khaki head quickly disperses, with no visible window dressing or carbonation. The body, when backlighted was a dark-mahogany brown around the edges.

S: Aroma of sour brown malt, hint of tart cherries, the sourness aspect is very light.

T: The flavor had some sour cherries, dark fruit with a light wild sourness of black cherries that was very smooth. Some dark sweetness, light sour twang, with a bit of funky barrel woodiness.

M: Decent amount of carbonation, body was medium full, a bit syrupy and slick.

O: Overall nice flavor, polished smoothness, very light wild yeast will be a welcome for some, a bit demeaning for the hardcore. Labeled as an american wild ale drinks more like a flanders. A good flavor, was expecting a bit more pungent sourness.

First had: on tap at their brewpub

I thought this was actually one of the better beers Bullfrog had to offer, and one of the few that was actually distinct. Poured a hazy rust color with a ringlet of bubbles for a head. Slight tart aroma, mildly acetic, with notes of cereal grains. More of this in the taste, chewy and earthy, toasted grains, cherry with a muted tartness, a little acetic tartness, but quite tame. Medium body, not the best example of the style, but pretty good overall.

Draft offering at the source. The brew pours a clouded mahogany color with a creamy off-white cap. Some patchy lace sticks to the glass before collapsing to a silky topping that maintains a finger of rich froth.

The aroma is tart with some alcohol esters that are mildly fruity like cherry. It is mild enough to be enjoyable but almost comes off as more of a bacterial sort of cherry inclusion instead of the addition of natural cherries. As it warms up, it gets a little diapery and funky and not exactly in the most pleasing way.

The taste includes a bunch of mineral and carbonic quality with an earthen aspect that distracts from the pleasant tart cherry inclusion. The more I sip this brew, the more a focus becomes on a metallic inclusion. There is a faint aftertaste of chocolate grain that morphs to more lemony and diapery quality.

This is a light boded brew with a modest amount of carbonation. An ok offering that I just didnt totally dig. It seemed like it had some promise but went awry somewhere in the process and was quite disjointed and conflicting.
