The beer trading hysteria hasnt event settled from this beer's first release and here we are getting a chance to sample batch 2 of Grrrz Kriek on tap. Served in a snifter, the brew appears a clouded pink color with a white head that fades slow leaving patchy to stringy lace on the glass.

The smell is filled with notes that are cherry, pitted and earthen. Very natural smelling of fruit with a kiss of something almost like cinnamon added to further drive home the suggestion of a cherry pie scent. Some lemony lactic tartness is also present adding to the overall brightness of this beer.

The taste is tart with plenty of natural sour cherry flavoring but well balanced with notes of earth, cherry pits and slight herbal accent. A hint of oak is present towards the back and like the aroma, has a soft spicy aspect like cinnamon. There is some tannins present that adds to a sharp feel to this brew.

This is light bodied with modest carbonation. A very well crafted beer that I just cannot speak highly enough of. As far as krieks go, this is up there with the best of them having a wonderful balance of wild character tempered by barrel nuance and fruit addition. The drinkability is downright crushable. Far and away this is my favorite of the Grrrz variations. Its no wonder this beer is so highly coveted, if I had spare bottles I would drink them all.

A big thanks to Frank for this one. 750ml unlabeled corked and caged bottle into a Cantillon balloon. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a dazzling clear, deep red. Pink foamy head with moderate stick. Spotty lace. A really intense color. Excellent!

Nose is plastic, hay, wood, foam, cobweb funk, and sweet cherries. Real aromatic.

Opens sweet and tart cherries. Foamy and oaky in the middle with notes of hay and moss. More fruit in the middle with a end that is puckering fruit and funky cobweb. Sweet and tart fruity aftertaste. Really juicy and funky.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and lively in the mouth and goes down sparkling. Puckering finish with a filmy aftertaste. Exactly what I want.

A really excellent sour that rivals any other cherry-based American Wild Ale.

2015 release. 750 ml bottle dated 10/22/2014. #699 of 1104. Poured into a Cantillon lambic stemmed glass

Appearance: Pours a dark red orange color with 1+ finger of an off white, almost pinkish head that settles to a ring and some wispy coating. Body is moderately hazy with fine suspended sediment.

Smell: Sour cherries, lots of barnyard funk, hay, lemon, toasted oak, musty basement

Taste: Whole sour cherries, funk, lemon, slight nuttiness, vanilla and oak. Sourness is medium. Fruit, funk and sourness are all integrated nicely.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and somewhat soft feel with medium gentle carbonation. Finishes dry.

Overall: Falls somewhat short of the hype as I would still prefer a regular Cantillon kriek to this, but it's definitely one of the better fruited American wild ales out there.

Bottles purchased at Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport, PA. I did not get enough.

This ones pours a slightly hazy cherry red, with a half inch head, and no real lacing. Looks really inviting and super fruity.

This one smells super wonderful, tons of earthy sour cherry, tons of funk, and a moderate level of sourness. Just packed with nice cherry aromas.

This might be the best American sour I've ever had. It just tastes perfect, honestly. It's a perfect mix of sour cherry, dirty funk, and nice tartness. The sourness level is fairly mild, about a 3 or 4 out of 10. It's melded well with tart cherry, not all that sweet, fairly earthy and tart. There's a bit of oak and leather as well, with some lemony acidity that's luckily pretty mild. This has a bit of a damp leather feel, also. On paper, damp leather doesn't sound at all appealing, but it works here.

This is light bodied, with a fairly dry mouthfeel, tart, and not very sweet or juicy. The carbonation level is moderate to low. So drinkable. Very easy to just down a bottle myself.

My first Grrrz, and I'm super impressed.
