Black. Almost no foam.
Toasted smell, with a point of sweetness.
Similar taste, again, a bit too much of sweetness.
A bit better aftertaste, some more toasted, and cappuccino.
But nothing great.

Pours black with a finger of khaki head. Head retention is okay with little lacing left behind. Aroma is bright notes of bread and biscuit malts. Light toast, and caramel also show up. Flavor profile is bread and biscuit malts. It has a bright taste, with notes of caramel, and light bodied hops at the end. Mouth feel is fizzy and medium-thin. Overall, a fine porter, but with a unique note in the aroma and flavor profile.
Served in a 12oz snifter from a 11.2oz bottle.

A silky smooth porter, which I have had a number of times and am always impressed with. Poured in a beer snifter this brew produces a fine head, and that textbook dark brown porter color. Gorgeous to the nose as well, if not somewhat inoffensive and standard for a porter with notes of rich barley and slight smokiness with a very faint hint of gasoline. Taste is just wonderful, smooth roasted notes, touches of nuts, smoke, and spiced choclate. Mouthfeel is very silky, and the finish is long and semi-sweet. For a beer that one can often find at low prices on the craft market pay the ferryman is not one to be passed over.

Right near California's border, this brewery obviously intends to bring some Mexican culture to the U.S.
And the yeast culture this brewery is exporting has been interesting. (This is only my 3rd from this brewery.)
What they should be most commended for is that Pay The Ferryman does not pander to the U.S. market (which typically is to pile in lots of hops.) This English Porter is true to its style: dark, Smells like well-roasted malt and Tastes the same. While Feeling a bit thin, Ferryman passed an important test in that it went well with a grilled cheddar sandwich. Both dry in its own way.
