Standard Tap's interior looks like a taproom or country house from a bygone error: dark, rich color scheme; wood on the floors and some walls; extensive use of wall lamps to create moody lighting; an old fridge with a keg inside that serves as one of the beer taps; decorations that appear bought in a rural antique store. There are multiple rooms, letting you choose from several slightly different atmosphers, and there is now a beautiful second-floor deck, which provides an entirely different atmosphere.

The Tap's beer mission is clear: serve local micros, only on tap or hand pump (there are two pumps downstairs). Victory, Dogfish Head, Sly Fox, Yard's, and Troeg's are regulars here. The closest they come to a macro is Yuengling, which is local and therefore an understandable part of their line up.

The absence of bottles and the focus on local beer limits the breadth of the beer selection, but I admire the place's dedication to the local scene and they carry some beers, such as those from Sly Fox, which aren't tapped in many other places. I would like to see the Tap carry a wider variety from the breweries whose beers it regularly carries. Dogfish Head and Victory have especially deep rosters of beers, and I would like the Tap to more frequently offer the seasonals and lesser-well-known beers from these great breweries.

I think that some other reviewers are overly harsh about the selection because of the modest amount of beers offered. Selection is more than quantity; having a focused selection with a strong theme and purpose is admirable. For locals, this is a chance to revel in the quality of the region's beers; for out-of-towners, Standard Tap is a great place to take a crash course in the Philly-area's brewing scene.

The food is amazing, and I've had almost everything. Their locally-famous burgers (big, possibly seasoned, and with a great roll) are the centerpiece of the menu, but the offerings go well beyond ordinary pub grub: squid with a delicate, seasoned breading; a generous cheese plate that includes bread and sausage; a nice assortment of salads (the duck salad is one of my favorites); a few steak options; an interesting chick pea sandwich; mussels and sausage with bread that are a generous helping for the price ($8 for the small order is a meal itself; the large order for $14 is appropriate for two people or one very hungry one). There are other choices as well.

The service is responsive and professional, although for a beer bar some servers don't know enough about the beers.

Standard Tap is a neat place in a cool part of Philly. It's a multi-level place where I spent most my time in the upstairs bar. The quality of the beer served and food was very good. The bar keep was kind and knowledgeable. They had 20 locals on tap, a cask, a firm in and a cellar beer. The food, while foo foo....was very good

For the love of God, PLEASE get menus that are not random chalkboards in dimly lit rooms.

Okay now that I got my one and only complaint out of the way.. Standard Tap has a wide selection of what seems to focus only on local beers, or mostly local beers, which is awesome, sometimes. The food is always changing and different, and often has many items that I would not choose, but you can never go wrong with their empanadas, burgers, or poutine. If you are looking for a first date, relaxed, cozy environment come here and go on the upstairs outdoor deck (you can thank me later). The service has always been quality, and like I said, the one downfall is you cannot get a physical menu to hold. At night this is one of the most dimly lit restaurants I have ever been in and their menus are only able to be seen on random chalkboards... annoying.

Walked over from Yards Brewing to Standard Tap around 6pm on a Saturday. Got seated in a small room adjacent to the bar area. Around 20 beers on-tap, all local and carefully curated. Upon seeing one of my all-time favorites listed on the board, Victory Braumeister Pils, I knew what I was drinking the rest of the evening. They also some Sly Fox, Troegs, Neshaminy Creek, Yards, Free Will, and Tired Hands available, to name a few, which was cool to see. Food was excellent. I had a soft shell crab sandwich and my friend had a pulled park sandwich. Great stuff. Waiter was extremely nice and we weren't rushed at all. Finished things off with a quick cocktail and we hit the road to see a show at Festival Pier. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

This place is pretty great - My brother is the one who brought me here the first time. The food is great and the selection is always pretty great too. I really like the vibe and It is one of the first beer-centric places I visited in Philly so it holds a sentimental type of memory, the service is always on point -definitely recommended.

If you are looking for a cool local jaunt that serves primarily PA beers, this is it. I have had quite a few special Bullfrog beers here. Troegs, Victory, Neshaminy Creek, Weyerbacher are always on tap here. Bartenders are cool. Food is really good. Worth the stop for local craft.

I feel like Standard Tap is one of the few “top beer bars” in Philly I had not yet visited. So there I rode, a couple of fast miles from my jawn in South Philly.

The Standard is a cool, spacious bar, with lots of room to roam. Quiet on a Wednesday evening. The bartender, as usual in Philly, was aloof and distant, with that I-saw-you-but-I’m-going-to-ignore-you-for-a-while look. Good music, though, Radiohead style.

The food menu is pretty large but pricey, with nothing under ten bucks except for fries. The taps are largely local/regional (PA): Troegs Scratch 145, SlyFox, Bullfrog, Weyerbacher, Yards, Dogfish, Flying Fish… all low-ABV as well. Not bad, but not exciting (except for the amazing Troegs Scratch)

Dollar off Happy Hour is all I got as a special. Nice stop, but I wouldn’t rush to try it again. There are a lot of beer bars where the tap list and service are better.
