Sharing a parking lot with a Save On Foods , Starbucks & others this strip mall at 176 Wilson always seems busy
Vibe-small store , bit dark , packed with spirits , wine & craft beers
Quality-can be a bit pricey , hence why they bring in good/great beers
Service-friendly staff , ask if you can't find it
Selection-great selection of International , US , BC mainland & local Island beers ,
I like the chilled single section found some single's of Twin Sail , DDC rarities

I was expecting this to be the best beer store I visited on the island - I was wrong; that vote went to The Strath on Douglas. The store was understocked, many shelves left bare, dust on quite a few bottles, boxes in the way of other shelves - all around did not give the appearance of a well taken care of store. I found this odd, as I think what they've done at the brewpub is quality. When I asked for directions, the cashier was unfamiliar where their other location was - not good. Definitely not worth the time out of downtown to visit this store, but not so bad that I wouldn't stop in if I was nearby.

Edit: Visited their James Bay Square store on Simcoe, and I found it hands above the original. Better service, cleaner, well stocked and organized - all around an excellent store. I'd certainly recommend that you visit this one instead.

I stopped in here on a recent trip looking for a couple of bottles to bring home with me. I was hoping to find some local barelywines, but they didn't have any. Oh well. They did have a pretty decent selection representing at least a eight or nine local breweries. I remeber seeing offerings from Driftwood, Tree, Spinnakers, Howe Sound, and several others. Everything is pretty pricy on Vancouver Island, so I was actually pleasntly surprised by the prices I saw. They also offered a fair variety of imports, including Chimay, Petrus, St Bernadus and several others. I wasn't offered any help while I browsed, but the guy at the register was friendly and did praise my selections. Definitely worth a visit.

Spinnaker's Liquor has one of the best selections in town (up there with Hillside Liquor). Imports such as Rochefort 8, North Coast, Lost Coast, a wide variety of Belgians, Brooklyn, Anderson Valley, etc...

Above this, most of their selection is available in singles - a rare find indeed for Victoria. For this alone, worth checking out. A touch on the pricey side ($3 for an average 12oz single) but you pay for what you get I always say.

Staff knows very little but I rarely ask for aid so I'm not the best judge - it's just my impression.

When I'm in the area I always make a stop here. They keep their stock relatively fresh and keep bringing in new things.

Edit: Their James Bay location, while smaller, has an equally nice selection and more if it is in the cooler.

I have been to Spinnakers Spirt Merchants three times on two different trips to Victoria. The first time that I went to this store, I was really suprised at the selection of beers, wine and liquor that the store carried. The selection of beers ranged from local Micros (including Spinnaker Ales), Mass Produced Canadian (Labatt), US, Belgian, Unibroue and European beers. The prices were very reasonable. The two girls that worked in the store the frist night were very helpful, if back in Voctoria I will go back again.

One of the best private liquor stores in the Greater Victoria area. Refrigerated and non-refrigerated bottles and six packs. Decent selection, better than most in the Victoria area. Prices were within reason, and actually cheaper than some other private liquor stores I've seen.

Spirit Merchants also offers on-line sales to residents of BC, but they have a wider selection in store; and some of the stuff on their website was not found in store.

Staff is very friendly and helpful. This is my first stop for beer shopping in Victoria.

It's not a large store, but it does offer a reasonable selection of local craft brews, as well as an ever-changing selection of imports.

They carry beer from their own brewpub, Phillips, Lighthouse and Canoe, which are all within a few blocks of the store!

Most of their beer is refrigerated, and a good portion is available in individual bottles.

The staff is friendly.

It may not be worth traveling out of your way to get there, but if your in the area, it certainly has a nice little selection of fresh craft brews!
