Not sure why this is being trashed by so many. A perfectly good west coast example of a Belgian strong dark ale with reasonable complexity.

How is this beer getting such good reviews maybe most of them are fake. Well as I am a avid Belgium beer drinker and this is a very poor example doesn't come close to a real triple.First of all it is waaay to sweet felt I was drinking a coke. Also flavor is more on a American hoppy side very poor examplr of a triple compared to say St. Bernardus 8 or 12 not even in the same league..

Pours a dark mahogany/raison color with quickly dissipating beige head leaving almost no lacing. Nose is dried stone fruit, candy sugar, spice and yeast . Taste follows more or less.Slightly more bitter than similar Belgian strong darks. A competent version of the style.

Poured from a 1 pint bottle into a chalice glass. No bottle date, served slightly warmed at reccomended 55 F.

Look: pours a dark amber brown topped with a nice frothy khaki cappuccino brown head that renders down to a dissipating head with limited lacing. Nice bit of carbonation bubbling up to the surface.

Smell: sweet caramel, molasses, banana bread, Belgian spice, bit of nutmeg

Taste: notes of raisins, pecans, candied sugar, boozy Belgian yeast character, nice tinge of bitterness.

Mouthfeel: smooth, decent carbonation, medium bodied.

Overall: Rich, boozy, dark, complex, mixed with wonderful flavor and unique character. If I was asked my top 3 of this style (American), Brother Thelonius would be right up there. Not sweet as to be a dessert beer, but rich enough to have post- dinner. Share with a good buddy or a group of friends. This is a delicious beer!

12oz bottle coded 8039031 4 poured into a chalice at just above fridge temp 9.4% ABV. The beer pours mostly bright orange tinted medium brown. The head is light khaki and short lived leaving a fat ring and no lacing. The aroma is brown sugar, raisin, date and sweet bread. The taste is lightly burnt sugar, raisin, pale malt and some peppery yeast. The finish is mostly dry and has medium bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and has above average carbonation. No trace of the alcohol in the nose or taste. Overall, very good. Not sure why this is scored so low in the style.

If there is a Stronger Style Strong Dark that has the smell, sweet deep taste than this one I would be surprised.

Big bottles are meant to share!

This pours a ruddy raisin amber. Foam lingers. Raisiny fig notes, with a clove and banana gum characteristic. Great effervescence.

As a fan of Belgian abby type ales, I thought that this beer was very good. Not to get snobby about it but damn good.

Very pretty amber color, with a very nice and permanent head. Smell is rather missing, but that is made up for by the incredibly rich, complex, and wonderful dark Belgian style taste. Very rich in dark fruits and malt, I love it! Feel is a little thin, but nicely carbonated.
