This beer should win an award for its appearance. While not particularly attractive, it has so much raw wheat sediment floating around that it's a spectacle. It's just a deep, deep pool of honey-tea-amber with the perfect subtle highlights on the sides lighting up the sediment. The head starts off 3 fingers tall and recedes to about 1, leaving a nice creamy ring on the sides with specs of lace. Best appearance for an American Pale Wheat Ale.

From the bottle it smells different than the glass. Out of the bottle I get lots of skunkiness, stale dehydrated hops, and musky grains. Thank goodness it doesn't stop there. When it's dumped into a pint glass, more pleasing aromas of citrus and baked wheat come out, and there's no skunk or musk at all.

Flavor profile is very complex. Sharp stabs of hop float in and out as beautiful citrus and field wheat dance on the palate. The finish is bready and piney.

The feel is refreshing, crisp, bright, and creamy. Perfect companion to the flavor and style.

This is one hell of a wheat pale ale. I'm sure this would KILL at backyard grillouts. Will consider buying more in the future.

Yellow beer, its a wheat beer so clarity isn't gonna be something that I would think as qualifying as ideal. Anyways, it is one of the duller yellow colors, the aroma was all about those grains. Wheat.

Clean taste, dry finish. Has a lot of wheat to it. No other frills, not hopped up, not a fancy yeast, no adjuncts unless you count the wheat itself.

A cloudy orangish beer with only wispy foam floating around. Some fruit in the nose with a little spicy hops.

Solid wheat character on the palate--a little chewy with some pleasant prickliness. The flavor starts out a little fruity, a twang in the center, ending with a little spice. Pretty standard stuff here.

Pours a cloudy pale yellow color with a nice white head that stays a while. Smells of wheat. Tastes of thin wheat flavors, a lighter beer with background citrus taste, lemon particularly. Mouthfeel was good just as in any other wheat beer, smooth and easy to drink. Nothing stood out about this beer but is wasn't bad...

Nice semi-clear yellow in color with a nice white head that disappears very quickly and leaves no lace to speak of. Subdued aroma of bread crust and some citrus with a nice hop profile sitting underneath. Taste is clean and refreshing with a bready start giving way to just enough hops to make it interesting and finishing sweetly with some banana peel and apple. medium to light feel but with more carbonation than expected helping to fill it out. On this 96 degree day I find this to be very drinkable, but all in all I don't think it's quite enough to be in regular rotation.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip produces a murky yellow-orange body topped by four fingers of soft rocky white head that retains at a finger and leaves healthy rings of sticky lacing.

Smell is very faint; lightly nutty with and a little fruit; not much going on here.

Taste is nutty and buttery with a hint of white peppercorns and some orange-peel bitter acidity.

Sudsy, slick, clean and refreshing. High levels of carbonation, but easily drinkable.

An enjoyable and highly drinkable American wheat beer. Blue Star has a good, light wheaty flavor that goes down smoothly.

I had this one at North Coast's taproom. They served it with a slice of lemon, which I'm not a fan of, more's the pity. Even so, I found this to have relatively good flavor for a wheat beer. There are good grain notes and some citrus. The malt comes through when it's needed. The beer is bright yellow with some haziness, although it was hard to tell how much that lemon was altering things. It was cold and foggy when I had this beer and that was probably not the optimal setting for such a light, smooth beer.

12 oz bottle poured hazy (no effort made to keep sediment in the bottle) yellow-golden with a small temporary head. Like most wheat beers, the aroma was not compelling, but the flavor was quite appealing nonetheless. The yeast imparts a fruity aroma and flavor than is rather tropical-with-apricots in the nose and mainly lemony/citrus on the tongue. Lightly tart.

O: an exceptionally refreshing barley/wheat ale, with fine citrus overtones.

Murky yellow-orange color. Completely opaque. Sediment on the bottom. Smells a little funky. Well carbonated. Refreshing and pleasing flavor is bready and full with some citrus elements as well. No bitterness or booziness. Mouthfeel is bubbly and a little chewy.

Overall: I like it. It is very refreshing and has a nice flavor that I guess is that of yeast. It hits the spot and is totally sessionable.

poured from the bottle into a Weizen glass

A - Pours a hazy gold with yeast swirling around in the glass. A steady jet of bubbles rises to the creamy, two-finger, eggshell white head. Head is gone about 2/3rds down the glass. Leaves behind a few splotches of lacing.

S - Light fruit notes from the yeast and wheat malt.

T - Sweet wheat malt upfront. The body has a nice balance of sweet wheat malt and enough roaming noble hop and light fruit notes to keep the beer interesting. More hops and fruit as the beer passes over the back of the tongue leads to a lingering and slightly musty yeast and light fruit finish.

M - one the far light side of medium bodied with ample carbonation. Suits the style and beer quite well.

Blue star is a simple, easy drinking pale wheat ale. The low abv and relatively straight forward, yet interesting old-school flavor profile would make this an ideal session beer. Although not good enough for me to seek out in ABQ, I would give this strong consideration if I stumbled across it in a grocery store while looking for a solid wheat beer.

A cellar temperature that was shipped to me from CA is poured into a pint glass. The beer is cloudy and has a golden wheat color. A small white foam head sits on top. A decent amount of rising carbonation can be seen within. Aromas of wheat and some pale malt sweetness can be smelled coming off of the beer. The beer has a very pleasing pale wheat flavor. There is a healthy amount of grain here, but it isn't too sweet. The noble hops and some balance, but they do not posess a very strong flavor. They may add to the kiss of spiciness in the finish, but that could be only the yeast. Like many beers of this style, this ones tastes refreshing and would probably be best consumed on a warm day. It's medium body isn't sticky, and the carbonation levels are just right. It is a good example of the style, though not impressive enough for me to have it shipped across country again, as there are many fine examples produced closer to home. For anyone on the west coast, this is a good one to try.
