Thick sandy head, with dense bubbles float above an opaque mahoghany chalice of Old Rasputin. A great coffee roasted, toasted molasses smooth flavor and rich body, with a smoky aftertaste, define imperial stouts. Vanilla, oaky flavors give way to a spicy bitter finish as the beer warms. It becomes drier and maltier and tastier near the end. I love this beer, if you hadn't noticed.

Normal look for a stout. Strong roasted sweet smell. Great toasty malt taste with a dark chocolate taste. Medium heavy body with the same amount of carbonation and creamy. Great russian imperial stout

look: 3.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Highlights:
-Overpowering burnt coffee flavors, faint smokiness
-Lots of bitterness, reminds me of chewing espresso beans
-Improved as it warmed
-Reminds me of quadruple shot (with a hint of raspberry and light on the chocolate) mocha

Notes:
I didn't give it a higher rating in appearance, because I like it when Imperial Stouts pour like syrup. This one poured just slightly thinner than expected. Excessively bitter to get a higher drinkability.

Pours a deep black, but light still comes through in the edges as a translucent brown. I like my RIS to be pitch black :) Smells of toffee, chocolate, roasted malts, and a hint of bacon grease. Taste is superb, super heavy in roasty notes and chocolate mocha. Feels thick and full, drinkability is high.

pours jet black with nice frothy head. dissipates slowly. nose is nice charcoal and burnt malts with some licorace and pepper in there. mouthfeel is perfect with just right amount of carbonation. up front I seem to get some light hop prescence giving way to multiple layers of toasted malts with some sweetness layered in there making this a rather lighter tasteing russian than others I have had. ends with light dry licorace and leather prescence. overall very well done russian. all the typical flavors are there but not quite as bold as other russian stouts. very easy drinking for 9 percent as alcohol is well hidden. not my favorite as I prefer stone and founders but a must try if you like the style.

A: jet black, 1.5 finger tan head head with good retention, lacing
N: roast malt, chocolate, not much to the nose
T: roasted malts, chocolate, coffee aftertaste, dry
M: smooth, light small bubbles of carbonation
O: so much flavor, like dessert, sets the bar for other RIS

Pours black in color with great size tan head. Smell of toffee and raisins with hints of alcohol and chocolate with a very high and thin lacing. Very bold on taste but yet smooth with complex flavors. Great imperial stout

Appearance very black, 2 finger head that dissipates to a 1/4" with excellent lacing. Smell is fruity and malty. Taste is strong coffee, subdued chocolate with a dry finish. Feel is medium thick and smooth. Overall, a very satisfying and balanced brew. Wife really likes it, and she doesn't like most imperial stouts. Will be getting some more of this. About halfway thru my second, starting to feel the buzz. I like it.

A: Retention on this thing is amazing. Half way through the glass it still has a decent little head and the lacing covers about 85% of the opposite side of the glass. The color is pitch black with a bit of a red tint towards the bottom of glass.

S: Coffee and chocolate aromas dominate with a little hop aroma coming through.

T: Nice and chocolaty with some strong coffee notes and a solid, bitter smack of hops for the finish. This is delicious.

M: The Old Rasputin feels like you are drinking a cloud - light, fluffy and very, very easy drinking. There is nothing about this beer that makes it seem like 9%.

O: Wow. I am very pleased and impressed. I am becoming a bigger and bigger Imperial Stout fan and this is serving to continue that trend. Dynamite beer.
