This beverage seems black until held up to the light, then the little light that makes it through shows a glorious deep dark ruby color.

the head starts decent - dark tan- but then falls to nothing but a decent ring around the glass. Little carbonation islands float amidst the sea of black.

the aroma is a sweet burnt malt with a little fruty hop smell hidden in there somewhere.

Great taste, sweet and rich on the tounge, with a bitter aftertaste that is not offensive - these characteristics seemed to improve as the tempature of the beer went up.

A good IMP stout. I would let it warm a little next time i drank it, i think.

I would like to start by saying that this is my first russian imperial stout so I don't have anything to compare this beer to but I'll do my best.
I poured this from the bottle into a glass and was really impressed with the deep black color, it has only a hint of ruby hues if you hold it up to a light. The head is a dark khaki tan that laces the glass nicely. The smell is really complex roasted and chocolate malts dominate. The first couple of sips present a bitterness that seems almost overwhelming but this soon mellows out once you become used to it and then you can really taste the chocolate malt flavors. Despite the high alcohol content the alcohol isn't that noticable but the beer does have a nice warming quality. I don't know if I would want to try drinking more than one in a sitting just because of the really powerful flavor but it is definitely one i'll buy again.

Opaque, silky black pour with no head.

Roasted barley and medium roasted coffee along with a whiff of alcohol on the nose.

Creamy texture and velvety on the tongue; bitter roasted coffee upfront with a milk chocolate middle and a touch of roast astringency on the bittersweet finish. Alcohol barely presents itself.

Medium to full bodied and carbonated; flavors work exceptionally well together. A little tongue drying but oh so smooth; not harsh at all.

Bottom line; a great no frills imperial stout that is highly drinkable.

A: Jet black, one finger mocha head dissipating into a thick ring.

S: Distinct cocoa and espresso beans, some hops dancing around as well.

T: My first sip was way too cold, alcohol surprised me - and a somewhat muted palate. After only a short time in the glass Raspy revealed heavily roasted malts, cocoa, and fresh coffee beans. Sharp hop bitterness mid palate (almost juicy), warming finish. Initial slap of alcohol is now hidden, thankfully. Well balanced.

M: "Medium bodied" as far as stouts go, pretty well carbed. Fits the flavor profile nicely, though.

D: Probably too good for 9%.

This was interesting, but not as enjoyable as Blvd's "Dark Truth." Poured a dark black with a decent head and lacing. Smell was largely roasty with some sweet brown sugar notes. Nice mouth feel: very filling, but for me, just not enough sweetness pushing-back against the heavy roasted bitterness: Still much better in that regard though as compared to some of the Sam Smith brews, etc: Note - Very pronounced lingering coffee bitterness on the palate long after the deed was done. Definitely felt the 9.00 afterwards as well.
