Nice black pour with a good tan head that stick around very well, and the lacing was nice throughout as well.
Little hoppy on the nose and smokey, spicy notes in the hops.
Flavor is of smokey coffee malts (but not overly smokey), a touch of spicey hops rounds it out, this one is overly sweet like some RIS can be, nice change.
great chewy thick mouthfeel as expected with this type of beer, this is a pretty easy drinking RIS, overall a great beer.

on tap at the yardhouse in yonkers NY 11/12/11

Dark as night. Lower carbonation level due to the high alcohol content. Chocolate aroma with hints of licorice. Incredible flavour!! Coffee at first, with a smooth sweet chocolate middle, then a little warming with a gentle chocolate finish. The alcohol certaintly does not overpower. Mouthfeel is perfect, not too thin, but not too syrupy. Overall this is sweeter than other imperial stouts that I have tried, but with good balance. This truly is one of the world’s great beers! Thanks to Brian for serving me this remarkable beer.

On Nitro Tap at The Royale in St. Louis

A- Extremely dark, pours large creamy head

S- Smells subtle, hints of coffee and chocolate

T- Very well balanced. Lots of coffee upfront, creamy vanilla in the middle, a little acidic on the back. Alcohol is almost completely masked.

M- Medium and sticky body, very very smooth.

O- This was really great on nitro, much better than on regular tap or bottle. It really made it a lot creamier and balanced out the stronger coffee and alcohol notes.

Beautiful black glass of beer, reddish tinge in the light. pours with a decent head of tan bubbles. Scent is initially hoppy and alcoholic, but chocolate malts are present too.

Initial taste has noticeable hoppy bitterness and alcohol. Great chocolatey aftertaste, totally coats the tongue and throat. Mouthfeel is thich and rich.

drinkability is really high, as is the alcohol content... So prepare for a good night.

Pours a near black with a dark tan rocky head that leaves sheets of lacing down the glass. The lace is thick and vinuous and slowly creeps down the glass. Quite nice.

The smell is of alcohol and fruit.

Flavor is of heavily roasted malts and apples. Alcohol plays into this beer rather well, and the hop bitterness brings it all together. For an imperial stout I think this one may be a bit sweet. Still quite good, mind you.

Near syrupy mouthfeel with large bubbles, big beer for sure. Pleasing to drink, and for a 9% beer it wasn't too much effort to finish a bottle.

Pour: Jet black with just a hint of red on the very edges when held up to the light. A huge three fingers of brown head that retained very well and left several spots of lacing on the glass.

Smell: Big, bold aroma with lots of rich chocolate malty goodness, coffee, dark fruit, molasses, floral hops, and a little bit of alcohol.

Taste: The front end starts off with a rich dark chocolate taste, some milky sweetness, coffee, dark fruit, and plenty of hops to go around. Alcohol is very well disguised for the ABV. An incredibly complex, balanced taste.

Mouthfeel: Heavy/full bodied, creamy, smooth as silk. Low carbonation.

Drinkability: Not quaffable, definitely a sipping experience. Pretty filling as well.

Final Notes: A simply amazing beer that would make for a great winter's night out by the campfire or the fireplace. Will stand up to the heartiest foods. Not for the faint of heart.
