I have been looking for this beer since it was released. Still no sign in PA but I did find this in TN. $16 and change for a four pack.

Beer poured into a snifter type glass. Very little head, some tan ring stays around the edge but never really formed a head.

Smell on opening the bottle was a huge whiskey smell. In. The glass it’s much more muted and brings dark chocolate with coffee in the rear.

Taste here is not as exciting as I hoped for. Creamy chocolate with a light barrel. Upon warning this does not change too much.

A nice creamy feel to this beer it’s not thin but at 11%+ I think it needs a bigger feel here.

Overall I am enjoying this beer. At the price it’s still a good value, much better than the 12oz Abyss bottles not as good as the SMS bottles. I have a few packs of this and will stick to the base Old Rasputin once I finish them. The hunt seems to be more fun than the actual find on this one.

Enjoy

L - Black with slight mahogany highlights with a tan head that dissipates quickly leaving nothing behind
S - Lots of rye whiskey on the nose along with hints of caramel and chocolate as well as charred oak and malts
T - Rye whiskey up front and throughout intermixed with notes of dark chocolate, caramel, molasses, charred oak, hints of coffee and dark fruits as well.
F - Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.
O - This is a nice BBA Stout that embraces rye whiskey that gives this a nice flavor profile

12oz bottle, no visible dating. Opened 12-18-21.
2 finger tan head, very good retention and early lacing. Black with some dark brown highlights.
Spicy wood, booze, booze-soaked fruit, and some chocolate in the nose.
Sweet, dark fruit and brown sugar.
Medium body, smooth mouthfeel, and some heat.
Somewhat thin for the style - similar to the BBA version.
Very sweet and lengthy finish.
Expected way more.
Good.

Picked up a single from TW-Greenville, SC on 9-8-21 for $6.49. No bottling date; consumed 12-2-21. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured dark brown with a great tan head that is hanging around long after.

Nose is very nice, chocolate forward with a touch of the barrel.

Taste is well done as the base beer agrees nicely with the barrel lending notes of cocoa and rye. Finishes well balanced without any residual sweetness.

Mouthfeel is pretty thin for a double digit abv brew.

Overall a very nice nose and flavor profile, glad to have an affordable bottle! Look forward to trying the bourbon version.

Stellar, stellar beer. In one word - rich. Its very sweet but in a very unusual way. Its not a bcbs or deths tar dark fruit kind of sweet. It rich with toasted brown sugar. The rye is just monumental. It reminds me of 2016 lagunitas high westified so much. I'm deeply curious as to what barrels this was in because its so reminiscent of high westified (but not willetized).

Pours as black as ink with a 1 finger thick foamy tan head that surprisingly faded very slowly, and as expected left minimal lacing. It smells of rye, peppery spices, cocoa, burnt coffee grinds, oaky notes, char and molasses. The spices weave in and out of the smoky booze aspects, bringing in chocolate and some whiskey as it fades. A really nice nose.

It feels dry for a stout, a bit thin too, but the fact that there’s zero bite or heat from the booze and it goes down easy had me loving every sip. Tastes of whiskey, rye, chocolate, piney hops, burnt coffee grinds, tea leaf, oak barrels that were charred with a flame thrower, smoked grains, campfire wood that’s ashy, cocoa powder and peppery, earthy tones. Some toffee or caramel sweetness pops up now and again, but this was mostly char, coffee, chocolate and spicy flavors that were complex and well balanced. Rye always brings out nice spicy flavors and this beer didn’t disappoint.

This is quite a tasty brew. Really takes the basic Old Raspy and smoothies it out a little and sweetens it up a touch as well. Only negative is it feels a little thin in body for a 11.4% stout. I need to find the Bourbon Barrel variant next and do a side by side.

12 oz bottle poured into a 9 oz Libbey Embassy snifter. Dark, deep mahogany brown with a short head of cappuccino foam and lashes of tan lace. Aromas of dried dark fruit (prunes), oak and molasses. Almost leathery dark fruit followed by burnt caramel and spicy rye. Subtle boozy heat and a silky smooth feel with moderate carbonation. A pleasant sipper that grows bigger as it warms.

Bought a single 12oz bottle $4.99 Village Bottle Shop
Smell of fudge, then whiskey
Dark black color
Medium-high carbonation
Heavy, thick mouthfeel
Taste of fudge, creamy, whiskey finish
Overall really good, especially for the price. I'll buy this every year they make it if they keep the price and quality the same.

Bottle pour- dark as night with thick chocolate milk head leaving scattered lacing. Nose is roasty malt sweetness, a bit of boozy rye spice and some hop notes. Taste follows with a creamy smoothness that finishes with lingering woody barrel notes. Delicious.

A 12 oz. bottle pours black as night with a two-finger dark brown head into a pint glass. The aroma is tantalizing.. an earthy, sweet, chocolatey, boozy, malty harvest with coffee notes.. my mind is racing already! The taste.. this brew demands your attention! Hoppy bitter at first sip, it can be equally sweet, depending upon which area of taste buds absorbs the full impact.. we're talking complex! The malt/hops balance is intricate.. the whiskey is palpable.. not overwhelming, but assertively present. It is a dry, poignant blend, much like it's excellent base, Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It can taste different on every sip.. fascinating!
