Consumed 12/9/15, my 39th birthday

Pours dark brown, nearing black and opaque. Nice one. Finger tan head

Nose is a lot of chocolate and smooth bourbon. Toasty and deep.

Taste hits bourbon covered chocolate bars at first and then opens up to light oak tones and coffee like bitterness. A little charred wood. Almost gets an ash like taste as it warms.

Feel is moderately heavy and mouth coating for sure. Some alcohol tinge in back of the throat but a nice warmth, not harsh at all. SMOOTH!

Been saving this one for a while and decided why not tonight. Worried it maybe past its prime but this is time is right in its wheelhouse. Bourbon is blended seemlessly and weaves into and out of chocolate and woody oak flavors, with some tobacco maybe throw in. Rounds nicely with some bitterness. Terrific!

Black liquid, dark tan head. Aroma was pretty heavy alcohol wise, the barrel gave more heat than it did positive aroma droppings. Once your face gets adjusted to it, the heavy wet barrel comes across.

Taste, again, hot, I really like the base version of this better than the barrel version.

Funny how the dude who brought this to the bottle share had to be forced to go get a bottle and he came back with this. Cheap ass sucka. Good beer but not worth the price of admission.

Barrel aged, anniversary, and Old Rasputin ought to be a great combination. It wasn't bad, but the price and hype overwhelm the beer itself.

What struck me most about this beer is nearly everything about it was quite subtle. It is aged in bourbon barrels, but it isn't boozy nor very evident. It is dark, smells a bit of bourbon and maybe some anise, and the feel is very thin. It isn't super malty, super chocolately, or super roasty- just balanced. To be clear, it is not balanced in the "I can't believe they got all these great flavors to work together" but more like "nothing really stands out to make this amazing".

500 ML bottle poured into a Duvel Tulip glass. Out of the bottle it comes out a dark root beer brown but becomes black as it pools up into the glass. Nothing for highlights as it sits in the glass Nice kaki colored head that has small bubbles and is thick and forthy. Medium amount of lacing.

This beer smells awesome. Regular Rasputin is a great smelling beer so it's not surprising that another anniversary version smells so good. Big normal RIS aromas of dark malts and grains come out. Aromas of vanilla, leather, plenty of bourbon, cedar/oak, some bitter chocolate and grains. Really great strong smelling beer that tickles your nose as you smell it. Everything meshes well together, great smelling beer.

By no means does this taste bad, but the flavor isn't nearly as full as the aroma. Tastes of dark grains, chocolate, vanilla, oak all meshed together.

Mouthfeel is good and maintains a flavor to feel balance that isn't easy to do. It has a full bodied flavor thats long lingering, yet the feel on your tongue doesn't feel to heavy. Moderate carbonation level and just the right amount of bite from the alcohol and the barrel. Starts sweet and maintains a steady silky smooth level with a dry finish that warms you up. Really great solid beer again from a solid brewery. Haven't been disappointed with a Rasputin anniversary yet, don't think I will be.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice inky black hue with a thin mocha head that fades to leave light wisps and great legs.

S - Aromas rich bourbon, vanilla, light barrel, chocolate, light booze. Really aromatic.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, great bourbon notes, nice vanilla, great barrel notes, wonderful chocolate. Great dark fruity Russian stout.

M - Mouthfeel is a touch thin but the alcohol was hidden nicely.

O - Overall this beer was quite tasty, great notes, aged wonderfully.

Ages incredibly well. Bourbon is well balanced and does not overpower. Age has probably helped mellow this. Deep rich earthy tastes, with a slight warming. Absolutely delicious.
