Pours a dark black with a very large tan head that goes down slowly. Scent is roasted malt with some lovely vanilla and barrel aromas. Definite bourbon aromas with hints of sweet chocolate. Light hoppiness as well. Taste is whiskey up front, but not the best whiskey (somewhat watered down). Immediately, the flavor profile gets better with sweet cherry and vanilla flavors, followed by better-tasting whiskey. Roasted coffee and toasty malt. Finished somewhat bitter with lingering vanilla flavors. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, somewhat lacking in this department. Drinkability is fairly high, especially for this beer being fresh at such high ABV. Alcohol is there, but doesn't interfere with the drinkability. Overall, I remember past years of this beer to be better. This one was good...not great though. Also, many gripes about the price (just like every year).

look: Deep dark, nearly opaque brown. Some cola highlights barely peek around the edges when held to light. Fairly full mocha head on the pour that mostly recedes, but lingers around the rim.
smell: cocoa, vanilla, and subtle roasty char. Delicate oak and bourbon. Added all up a damn fine and decadent nose.
taste: All the flavors of the nose. Blooms into a rich full taste and the finish is a slightly spicy bitterness.
overall: A work of art.

In a tulip glass the beer was black in color with a medium-sized tan head. There was a smattering of lace.

Wonderful aroma. Both dark and sweet chocolate, coffee. A little vanilla. A lot of booze.

The taste personified the aroma. Sweet chocolate/cocoa, dark chocolate. Bitter coffee. Big booze.

This was a full-bodied beer meant to be sipped. The alcohol is right there, but in a complimentary way.

I loved this beer!
