Bottle from Binny's I think? Can't totally remember. Served in a DryHop taster glass.

A - Tan foam settles to a thick cap, minimal lacing. Very dark brown with some glints of transparency at the edges of the glass.

S - Massive doses of coconut, vanilla, marshmallow, and chocolate fudge. Bourbon is present and earthy, but doesn't overwhelm, and there's some mild roast and oak to keep things from getting overly sweet. Not much booze, considering this is relatively fresh.

T - The taste is a bit more on the charry and roasty side of things, with more bourbon and dry oak and less of the awesome coconut and vanilla flavors. There's still a hefty dose of baker's chocolate, but this is definitely more on the espresso side of things with a lingering moderate bitterness.

M - Medium-full body, with pleasant moderate-to-low carbonation. Body is creamy and soft, with only mild roast and oak in the finish. Perhaps a touch of alcohol warming, but less than expected from a fresh 12% barrel-aged stout.

D - This was quite nice, and seems ready for prime time right out of the gate unlike some of the other vintages. Eminently drinkable, other than the steep price tag. That being said, I may actually buy another bottle of this even though it's $22.

Poured into a snifter glass. The beer pours jet black with a thick, brown head that sticks around for a long time for such a high gravity beer. The beer has visible tiny bubbles rising in the beer. The aroma is of bourbon with oak and vanilla. I also get some chocolate and coffee in the aroma. It smells wonderful. The most impressive part of this beer has to be in the flavor and mouthfeel. The bourbon does not overpower this, but adds a nice accent to the flavors. I also get the oak, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, dark malt, and the alcohol. That can't be escaped with a large beer like this, but it's not exceptionally overpowering. The mouthfeel deserves high marks. It is very smooth the moderate carbonation helps this beer drink very easily. It's not heavy in the body at all and I don't feel like I'm chewing this beer. Then again, Old Rasputin has a great mouthfeel as well. Why wouldn't the barrel aged version have it? This is an excellent beer.

A: Tan head on a black, black beer.

S: Vanilla, rye, bourbon, coffee, espresso and a touch of chocolate. Deeply charred oak on the end. This is complex smelling and wonderful. everything combines so perfectly. I need to drink this now!

T: Chocolate up front. Bourbon. a smokey, spicy rye. vanilla. licorice. espresso and coffee bean. Wonderfully rounded oak. Very roast and a huge hit of booze! AWESOME!

M: Smooth. long bourbon finish that stays with you. medium bodied and creamy.

O: Fantastic. Lives up to all the hype. smooth with killer flavors. I'm about to go pick me up another. Phenomenal. /96
