Deep amber with beautiful slightly off white head. The head sticks around, as does a lot of lacing.

Flavors are bitter sweet malts not unlike dark chocolate. There is some background pine flavor, and some light citrus rinds.

Pretty good.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark reddish orange, quite ruddy and with a fine two finger light khaki head with good retention and lots of lacing. Classic red ale aroma profile, with lightly caramel malt, mixed fruit, piney and dank hops, citrus. Flavor is lightly caramel, and somewhat bready malt, citrus and piney hops, citrus and mixed fruit, great orange citrus and lingering lightly resinous hops bitterness. Nice mouth feel with a light creaminess. This is a great red ale, hoppier than traditional (but it claims to be a hoppy one), but with a spot on malt base with good fruit flavors. There is a mildly estery, vaguely orange citrus flavor that hits just before the hoppy finish that I found to be very satisfying. Iron Horse often surprises me and this is another of their ales I wish I'd tried sooner. A well made and flavorful hoppy red ale.

I bought a bottle of Double Rainbow Red Ale in a bottle shop. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a garnet red color, clear with a thin off-white head.

smell is a caramel candy aroma with a bitter pin scent along side.

Taste is a sweet bread flavor up front, with a bitter hop finish.

Mouthfeel is slightly cloying.

Over all a good red ale. Sweeter and heavier than some, but good.

From a can into a tulip glass: OK you nailed the color- deep red mahogany. Mostly toasty malt on the nose. Taste follows- caramel and toast initially with the hops kicking in later. Good amount of carbonation for the style. An excellent well balanced beer!
4/29/17 side by side comparison with another double red ale. This time around there is a big burst of tropical hops, smell and taste wise. This is more hoppy and probably better than the other one.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer served a very hazy reddish-orange amber color with a two finger head of white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a toffee and caramel smell mixed with some bready aromas and a good showing of some hop. The hop are mainly of a more dank pine and earthy nature, but it also contains some other aromas of grass as well.

Taste – The taste begins with a nice bready and malty taste mixed with a bit of a caramel sweetness and some nice hop flavors of a pine and citrus nature. As the taste advances the citrus fades while the pine grows stronger and is joined by some earthy hop. With a little bit of a decrease in the sweeter caramel and an increase in the hop, one is left with a nice more dankly hopped bready taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the mix of breadiness, dank hop, and sweet the feel makes for a very flavorful and easy drinking brew overall. Overall, the feel was rather nice.

Overall – This was a rather enjoyable and nicely hopped red ale. A good go to overall.

This is my favorite brew from Iron Horse. Great feel, smooth body. Had a couple of these and grilled some burgers with my gf and our friends. Goes well with a crisp, late winter evening in WA. (:

It says it's a red ale on the label, but it pours to a mud brown in the glass. Smallish but heavy head with nice bubbles running up the sides of the glass, the aroma is a mix of sweet malts and citrus. Taste is nice up front, carmel and malty yet not overly sweet. It closes with a blast of not entirely pleasant bitterness, which feels a little out of whack with the rest of the brew. Not bad, but probably not one I will seek out in the future...

On tap Albertsons. 32 oz grunt fill. Dark amber, slightly muddy small creamy head, streaky lacing. Malts on the aroma, hops in the background, but take over the taste, where malts are in the backseat. Pretty well balanced beer, kind of light for a strong ale. Subtle warmth.

The appearance of this beer is a Thick dark amber color with little transparency. Had a 1 finger white head which reduced to a thin layer of foam, Lacing is webbed all the way down the glass.
The aroma of the beer is musky pine with hints of citrus, very little sweetness from the malts.
The taste is full and quick, The pine sits on the tongue and the citrus is minimal but still there. once you swallow the taste is gone and makes you go back for more.
The feel of the beer is smooth and medium bodied. No warmth of alcohol at all. Just a SMOOTH beer.
Great beer I will get this beer again, and soon. The one thing that stuck out besides the musky pine aroma which i loved was the smoothness of the beer. The bottle says "Red Ale and a red IPA" I was expecting a thicker IPA but this beer is very well balanced with a good mouth feel. If you havent tried this, I would strongly recommend this... Thanks for reading , CHEERS!!
