2006 UPDATE: The beers have really been phased out here. I think they have perhaps 10 different kinds now. I would only suggest a trip if you are right in the area and don't want to travel a few miles north to Whole Foods or other superior beer stores.
---
You wouldn't think from the name that this place had a good beer selection. But it does, at least for Southwest Florida. They may not sell a ton of beers, but all their beers are craft. Dogfish Head, Rogue, Dunedin, Jolly Pumpkin, Flying Dog, Avery, are joined by a variety of Belgian brews.

The beers are kept in a corner of the store. About half are in a cooler, the other on racks. The employees are very friendly and helpful and know a lot about the beers, considering they're about 5 percent of the store's stock. They also have asked for my input on inventory several times!

Their prices are the lowest in the area. I've found really good deals there on Dogfish Head World Wide Stout and Rogue Old Crustacean.

While this is mostly a wine store (and a great one at that), they do have a small section of interesting brews. Last week I picked up St. Bernardus Prior and Fraoch Heather Ale. They also had a couple Belgian-style beers, lambics, an organic farmhouse ale, and some others. Most of the beers are availiable both chilled and room temp, but they have a quick-chiller if your in a rush. They had a wine tasting and bar-b-que with a couple beers a couple weeks back, its a very community-oriented place. Friendly staff, classy environment, may be worth a look if youre in SRQ...

I stopped in the other day since I was in the neighborhood and had read about this place in BeerFly. Seems things are changing at the Wine Warehouse.

There was only a very small selection - maybe a dozen different beers total. The few they had were all quality craft brews - I remember Fraoch Heather Ale, one Rogue bomber, serveral German beers (sorry, no detail, didn't take notes).

I noticed no prices on the shelves so I can't comment on value.

I asked where the rest of them were and the nice lady told me they were phasing out the beer section entirely and would be filling that space with more wine. In fact, most of the beers had paper tags hanging over them describing the wines on the shelf above.

Seems hard to recommend them for beer any more. I'm sure glad I didn't make a special trip to see them.

second place on my sarasota trip took me here. although it was mostly wine, they did have a little corner of brews that was decent. just a few micros but a decent amount of imported stuff. i picked up a 6 of Weihenstephaner (yum yum) and a bottle of hennepin farmhouse. so although i would have liked to see more micros, what they did have was pretty good quality

the guy at the registed was very friendly and put me on the e-mail list to update if any new products come in (including beers). worth checking out if you are in the area.
