There are a few Colonial Spirits stores in Eastern, Massachusetts. This one is a fairly typical Massachusetts package store with an emphasis on wine and hard liquor and a halfway decent beer section. But there was really nothing here that I cannot find in other Massachusetts beer shops. There were many local crafts in stock including brews from Berkshire, CBC, Mayflower, Clown Shoes, and Pretty Things. There were a number of Belgian brews available. I found dust on several older bottles but I was also pleased to find a few bottles of Vertical 10/10/10 and a couple of other 2009/2010 vintage ales which have probably been sitting there for awhile. That sometimes can be a good thing. This is not a place to go out of your way to visit but if you are in the area you will probably find something you like for a modest price.

I recently moved to Stow, and being a craft beer lover, I was pleasently surprised to find a solid selection at Colonial. There is not a ton of belgian, which I would like to see more of, but the american craft beer is outstanding in selection. Heavy Seas, Lagunitas, Weyerbacher etc. If I had any requests, I would like to see them carry the Port Bombers (2nd and 3rd Anniversary Ale), Pretty Things beers and more of the belgians. It is a nice, clean store with from the limited interaction I had with them, knowledgeable staff. I have only been there 1 time, but I would go back, and plan to. I had a Heavy Seas Big DIPA there, and they even had the bomber cold in the refrigerated section. Good store!

I shop here sometimes because it is closer than the "other" Colonial Spirits in Acton, and it's convenient because I frequently shop at the supermarket next door.

I was told by the cashier that the ownership of the Acton store also holds a 50% stake in this place, but this store is run independantly.

They do not sell kegs, and the size of their beer section (indeed, the whole store) is about 1/3 the size of the Acton store.

That said, 1/3 the selection of that Acton store is still pretty darn good compared to your average package store, especially out here. You can get all the widely available and slightly rarer craft brews here. Smuttynose, Dogfish Head 90 minute, etc. The selection of Belgians is very good with the more unusual choices not present, but I was still able to pick up a Grimbergen Brun six-pack, and also saw Rochefort and St. Bernardus and the like.

The service is friendly and efficient.

If you're nearby, definitely worth stopping in. If you're looking to travel, definitely travel to Acton instead.
