Poured from 355ml bottle into glass. Date code stamped on neck of bottle is 'SE03Q1' (I think this translates to 5/3/2017.)
Clear, amber brown colored body. Persistent light tan, thin head/cap. Some very small spots of lacing, most lacing slides back down into glass.
Aroma is caramel, nuts, and fruit.
Taste is dark bread, caramel, nuts, and fruit esters. Very slight bitterness at the end.
Thin to medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouth feel.
Easy drinking brown ale.

Classic brown ale with a clean finish. Good smell, feel, and flavor. Caramel notes with a nice balance. Always a favorite go-to beer.

Bottle. Would love to try this on tap, or best yet on cask, as I think it would be improved by lower carbonation.

Poured from a bottle, no date.

Looks nice, crystal clear brown with a hint of red. Pale tan head fades to a fine layer.
Smells pretty good. Caramel malts, some nuttyness and some fruity esters.
Tastes excellent, malty brown caramel malts and toasted bread.
Great feel, medium body, chewy with a crisp dry edge. Decent bitterness and a clean malty finish.

Overall, an excellent, classic ale!

Poured from 550 ml bottle into Schlafly tulip. Pours hazel brown with a thick tan head that leaves light lacing on the glass. Tastes like a typical brown ale, albeit one that had probably been bottled for awhile. Generally, I really enjoy Samuel Smith beers, and this one was no different.

Found this to be a surprise - nutty and dry as advertised...

Definitely a flavorful brown ale, from it's dark caramel coloration with thin foam to the smell that had a touch of booziness to it (while not actually being boozy) to a mouthfeel that was definitely dry, maybe a bit astringent, but crisp as well, very complex in my opinion. What also surprised me was how hoppy it tasted, probably the most bitter brown ale I've had to date. I really liked this, and I'll be on the lookout for more Samuel Smith offerings in the future...
