Comes in a translucent, slightly hazy amber color with a sticky beige head. Retention and lacing are both excellent.
The nose offers plum, cherry, dates, toast, caramel, a slightly sherry/grape must character, and faint herbal hops.
The taste is toasted brown bread with some toffee and caramel upfront, compliment by cherries, plums, and dates. There's a slight sherry and grape must drying character in the middle, followed by gentle zing of herbal and woody hops, and then a sweet finish of gingerbread and fruit cake, with lots of dried cherries and plums.
Pretty light bodied, about medium-light, some smooth carbonation but feels kind of watery overall. Redeems itself slightly on the finish with a subtle coating sweetness.
A pretty tasty English ale, fully of estery goodness and dried fruit notes, but a Winter Warm as such could stand be thicker and more pungent.

Decanted into a tulip pint glass; 2015-2016 per label.
A: Copper color with eggshell white head; 1/4 inch head that dissipates quickly.
S: Medium malts with a peach/apricot note.
T: Medium malts with little else. Maybe a touch a caramel.
M: A bit watery.
O: Wasn't sure what to expect from a "Winter Welcome Ale," but this wasn't it. Refreshing, but bland -- wouldn't try it again.

Good winter ale. Fat Tuesday. Love that bottle of purple, green, yellow!

Nice copper color with and off white head that dissipates quickly. Scent is of bready malts with slight fruits maybe a bit of citrus. Decent malt flavor with slight hops bitterness to balance the sweet malt. I'm not the biggest fan of caramel malt. Watery feel to this beer. Drinkable but not my style. Alcohol hidden (to me at least).

Pours a copper/amber like color. A modest head soon dissapates but does leave a thin ring like collar.
The aroma consists of toasted malt, tofee, caramel, and plenty of spices. There is even a hint of banana.
The taste is malt forward and spicy. It has a very dry finish. The hops presence adds a mild but significant herbal, spicy and dry bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium and slightly chewy. There is a slight alcohol warming. As the drink warms, some fruity, berry and apple, sweetness finishes things off.
Admittedly I do not know as much about this style, but I found it quite pleasant. I would like to get to know it more.

L - copper with great clarity and a light tan head that leaves behind some lacing.
S - bready malt - biscuit, some caramel
T - bready malt with biscuit, caramel, and some dried fruit - a slight amount of hop on the back end.
F - medium body with a moderate amount of carbonation
O - overall a nice light winter ale with nice malty, biscuit and caramel flavors though I wish it had more spice to it.

Poured into nonic glass. Virtually no head, stray lace. Nice amber color.

Nose is malt, citrus fruit.

Taste: Citrus reveals itself as hops. Nice malt and spice, too. Biscuit bitterness. Taste is similar to Vienna lagers, but this is ale, kids.

Mouth is fine.

A little light for the style, but a good little ale. Have had straight from the bottle, too, which was good too.

From Labirratorium. In Ikea's pint glass. Reading JHTP11 Ch23. Very balanced, with a malty taste (well balanced with bitterness) that surely wont displease anybody but doesnt enthusiasm either. Not much much winterly, wihout spicy notes.

This is a very nice example of a British ale. Beautiful clear copper beer. First taste is its a big, bready, biscuit malt base supported by firm hop bitterness and spicy / earthy hop flavor. Slight fruitiness from the yeast and fermentation. Nice and subtle 6% alcohol beer. This is not what I expected from a Winter Warmer style. No detectable spices (that's good). Honestly, I'd call this a somewhat aggressive English Special Bitter. Great balance, very enjoyable and drinkable.

Pours a nice copper color. Nice smell. Great toffee, biscuit, caramel taste when you sip it. Very smooth beer. Great job by Sam Smith's. One of my favorite winter warmer options.
