Amber with lots of white head. The malts are the strongest scents, but there are also scents of plum and spice. The taste leans toward the malts, with a biscuit flavor. There's a bit of spice, but overall, it's pretty mellow. It does have a nice, heated finish. In sum, a drinkable but unexciting beer.

pours light Amber with good head and retention. nose seems to be make and dark fruit. not great. taste up front is reminiscent of AAL with some corn malt and bready notes. as the beer progresses I don't really get much other positive flavors as light plum and end palate malt prevail. people keep telling me to try sam smith stuff and I did. ...... not a good first impression. very bland and no spice for a winter warmer. a pass on all aspects. would not be able to tell apart from a bud light. ...probably.......... but blah...

Have never been impressed by this Newcastle looking beer in a clear bottle. Not much going on in the aroma department.

Taste is neat, you get some toffee flavors, a mild earthy hop aspect, mild warming. There is a little bit of spice rack, very little in the mouthfeel. Malts toasty.

Pours a clear crisp looking rusty brown color with a thin sudsy head that dissipated leaving neither lacing nor a residual head.

Aroma is quiet subdued and muddled. Whiffs of dried fruit, citrus zest, clove and caramel come through.

Taste does in fact follow the aromas with flavors of citrus zest, caramel, clove, yule spices, dried stone fruit all present and pleasantly blended. no one flavor is dominant providing a refreshing holiday like flavor. The spices were a bit muted, but I thought it all came together well. Ever so slight bitterness on the finish mellows into a lingering dark fruit flavor.

Feel is appropriate - clean, crisp and slightly warming even though it doesn't have a high ABV.

Overall a really nice winter warmer - this is the best one I've had. I'll be revisiting this come winter.

The malt nose and taste wins me. Just enough hops for that classic Yorkshire balance. But the mouth seems thin for the style. Overall, a pleasant ale that I will serve at a Christmas party.

Party report: Only two Winter Welcomes were drunk. So, I gave some as presents and Had the remainder over the next four months. The carbonation settles and, by spring, I enjoyed the taste more since the bubbles were not pricking my tongue. While giving it a significant rating increase, Winter Welcome still remains in the middle of the pack from what has been my favorite English brewery for three decades.

I really enjoyed this beer. I picked up a case after the season for $25. Insanely good price for a really great beer. You can tell this brewer knows what they are doing. Smooth, with lots of subtle flavors and tastes. An easy drink and good recommendation.
