From nitro with a deep brown/mohagany color when held to light, otherwise black. Medium creamy tan head rests atop and stays decently. Not too much lacing. Aroma is strong on the hazelnuts but also quite roasted with an espresso like bitterness. Taste has more of a chocolate syrup quality up front followed by the hazelnut coffee flavor and touches of vanilla and cream underneath. More roasted coffee and hazelnut come out at the finish. The roasty quality is just right to offset the hazelnuts, chocolate, and vanilla. I think nitro works well here. I think that to make a good stout like this there needs to be quality ingredients and there is no better coffee in Grand Rapids than Schuil, which is what is used here. Even though hazelnut coffee is disgusting in general, it works for this beer here.

Pours a very thin dark chocolate color. Aroma is fantastic of hazel nuts. Flavor is very disappointing. You get hazel but up front and then it becomes sour-ish. This beer is very thing for a stout and overall really disappointing.

Purchased at Champagne's in Warren MI for $6.99 for a 650ml bomber. Served at 14deg C in a tulip glass
A- Opens well and pours a 1/2" head with a vigorous pour that was gone in seconds. Rather very dark brown colour
S- Good malt and coffee. Not a lot more though
T- Very weak stout. Has a thin body with a coco flair. Coffee is there with a sharp coco hit. Bitter at the end to say the least. No hazelnut what so ever and I like hazelnut!
M- Chalky and watery.
O- Ok at best. Not a big fan but it's a decent brew.
Food Pairing
This ok stout went pretty good with........ Chicken balls with plum sauce.
Enjoy

22 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating, but was released fairly recently. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, light vanilla/cream, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malt, moderate coffee, and light earthy hop/yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, light vanilla/cream, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, moderate coffee, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good English style coffee stout. All around good robustness, compelxity, and balance of roast/bready malt, moderate coffee, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Date Aug 03, 2015, Batch 3. Poured into a snifter this beer is a black with a beige 2 inch thick head. Smell of a ton of bittersweet coffee, nuts, roasted malt, chocolate, bit of metal, and vanilla. Taste is light, coffee, nut-y flavor, roasted malt, chocolate, and a burnt/roasted nut flavor on the end. It has a medium to light body with a moderate mouth feel. As it warms it begins to get somewhat of a hazelnut taste, but the metallic taste picks up as well. This is the third stout I've had from Hideout and I probably won't waste my money on another, all 3 where overall disappointingly weak and didn't have all the pronounced flavors they advertise.
