This is a growler of Sierra Madre, an APA from Franklin's in Hyattsville.

A: The ale is a lighter copper/amber color with a bit of haze and great looking lacing throughout the glass.

S: The ale has a lighty and fresh hoppy aroma that provides a brief kick.

T: The ale has a fairly bitter, dry hop flavor. The hops strike me as piney and linger long in the mouth. There is a bit of malt presence, but for the most part this is a west coast-inspired pale ale.

M: Very nice on the palate, the hops are strong without numbing the mouth.

D: Very drinkable, as I may clean out that growler tonight.

Poured on tap from the restaurant into a shaker pint glass.

Classic gorgeous red amber body with a light and off white head. Simple and with some occasional good circular lacing around the glass.

Bouquet is hoppy wet citrus, with a nice light bread crust sensation.

Taste follows the nose pretty much exactly. A good citrus punch of hop, and a nice dry brown crusty bread smell. A little bit wet as to be expected from the nose, but still enjoyable.

Overall pretty solid simple APA to be had. Not much more to say about it.

Cloudy, darker amber color. White head holds together well for a few minutes. Great amount of lace on the sides of the glass.

Citrusy, maybe a bit floral in the nose. Good aroma for an American Pale. Hints of a good caramel background linger in the aroma as well.

Good malt background, with some citrusy hop flavor. Good bitterness, but well balanced. I was told that this was based on SNPA, and it seems to fit the mold well.

Good body, well balanced and drinkable. Nicely done.

From 06/18/11 notes. Had on tap at Franklin's.

s - Pours a clear orange color with one inch of white head and low carbonation evident.

s - Smells of citrus hops, light fruits, light pine and some toasted malts. Pretty nice nose; lots of hops.

t - Tastes of citrus hops, bready malts, toasted malts, light fruit. A slight step down from the nose, as the fruit and citrus doesn't shine through as much.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a pretty good APA with a really nice hoppy nose. Would give it another shot.

From the brewer, "Sierra Madre Pale Ale- This west-coast style ale is heavily hopped with Cascade hops and similar in style to Sierra Nevada pale ale. 6% A.B.V."

Beer is hazy and orange. Carbonation is medium. Head is broken and white, no lacing.

Drinkability of this beer is high. The aroma is of citrus hops and the mouthfeel is nice and full. Beer is appropriately bittered. Overall a decent beer.

A - Cloudy gold to sienna brew with a decent head that has medium retention. Leaves lots of lacing.

S - Pine hops, under ripe tart apples (maybe closer to granny smith) and a bit of light malt.

T - A bit of tart gren apple, malty (light). After taste is strongly btter - pine.

M - Carbonation is strong, but it isn't harsh on the toungue, thinck and fairly refreshing.

D - Not too shabby, but I am not going to have it again.
