The wife and I drove right by this shop as we entered kitschy Helen and stopped a second to browse.

This being Helen, the majority of the beer here is German. Good Belgians too, including St Bernardus , Delirium, lambics… plus random goodies from Unibroue, Clown Shoes, Stone, Uinta (Cockeyed Cooper!) and four packs of Boulevard and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel.

There is a small shelf with single beers for mix-and-match packs and some Sierra and Sweetwater six-packs in the coolers, but these are mostly BMC.

Most of the store is devoted to wine and liquor anyway, but if you’re into bourbon like I am, check them out. They’ve got some good stuff. Prices are a lil’ high (we’re in the mountains, I guess :-) ) and service is very nice.

Visited Helen, GA and read about this place in BA. Easy to find, when entering town, go straight through on Main St. and it will be on the right hand side at the edge of the business district.

It is a small shop and has a small area for beer. We were here on October 1st and they had a good selection of German beers and Oktoberfest beers. I picked up a bottle of St. Bernardus Tripel, They also had the Prior 8 and Quad. They had the whole line-up of Unibrou beers, Framboise Lambic and Kriek. We also bought Bells Two Hearted. This place had the best selection by far up in those little towns in the mountains.

The ladies at the counter were very nice and helpful and one even commented on the beers we chose so she actually drank beer :-) If in this area, there is not much selection on beers so definitely stop by this place especially if you enjoy German beers.

Not a bad stop here at all. On our last trip through Helen I finally remembered to stop in here and I was definitely not disappointed. As others have mentioned the beer area is quite small, though it is jam packed with goodies. Even after we popped the cap here in SC this place still beets out our best selections. Most common micros are there, but the German selection was great. Something’s I had never even heard of which is always a good thing. Lots of Belgians as well, easily over 50. The staff really did not know much, but that’s ok, was only a pain when I was asking what else they could get, but they were very nice, just did not know. I would say if you are in Helen this is a must stop. It is easily a solid choice to stop in and a place that deserves a visit. Prices are a little high, but so is everything else in Helen so it really shouldn’t be a surprise. Overall a must stop in on your next trip.

Stopped in on a recent trip to Helen. Store is on the left as you come into town from the south. Being from SC, I was amazed at the selection (we really need to "Pop that Cap"). Great selection of German, Dutch, and Belgian beers along with some American macros not available in SC. Picked up singles of Paulander Oktoberfest, Erdinger Hefe-weizen, Monchshof Kellerbrau, and Weinstephaner Dunkel along with a 4 pack of Duvel. The ladies running the store at that time were not very knowledgeable about beer (when questioned they repeatedly referred to Michael Jackson's Beer Guide) but they were very eager to help. While a little pricy, I would stop again.

Not a bad stop. Took a Saturday afternoon trip down to Helen to get out of town and enjoy the scenery. Actually drove through a bunch of small towns and thorougly enjoyed the views. Gorgeous. But more importantly, had to pick up some beers I can't get up in Clemson (or South Carolina for that matter).

This place is on Main Street which from what I could tell is pretty much the only street in Helen. It's one of the less German themed buildings in town. It houses a couple hundred beers. They had nice offerings from most of the bigger and/or better micros in North American. Probably fifty to sixty different Belgian or Belgian-style ales. I picked up a sixer of Stoudts Fat Dog only to find out when I got home that the bottles were covered in dust. It has a bottled-on date and it's only six months old but it makes me skeptical of the beers that aren't impy stouts. It was in the cooler though so I'm at least hopeful about it.

I was also a little disappointed that the sixer cost me 12.50. Stoudts has always been pricey when I've seen it but this more than other times. The beer area is small (yet packed with as much beer as they can put it there... it's almost a tad cramped) and that's why I assume prices are a little higher in here. The singles aren't priced badly though.

The people who were working there were very friendly. The beer man knew beer pretty well. I suggested they get some Sierra Nevada and he told me they had some. I replied that I meant other than the pale ale and he pointed out the porter. Whoops must have overlooked that. I then said they needed some Bigfoot. The beer man handed me what seemed to be his last bottle of SN IPA that he had been given by a distributor. That was pretty cool. Enjoyable store that I'll hit next time I'm down in the area.

I camp alot near Helen and although most package stores up there stock the Big Three almost exclusively (in a German-themed town?) the Alpine Brew Store is a relative beer oasis and a great place to fill up your cooler.

Nearly any German beer you could want for (at least everyone available in GA) Spaten, Paulaner, Ayinger, Erdinger, Weihenstephaner and Aecht Schlenkerla are all here. Hefeweiss, marzen, lager, dunkel lager, dunkel weiss, dopplebock and rauchbier are all here. Also some Belgians like Corsendonk, Wittekerke and Chimay. Some Unibroue and Ommegang too. Sold some selected single including Ommegang 12oz bottles. Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Anchor are here too, as well as local offereings from Terrapin and Sweetwater.

Service was friendly, fella seemed to know his beer. Seemed to be a decent rotation. Everything I drank from there was fresh. Selection is great. Not huge but well thought out. Selling German beer in a German themed town - what a concept! Prices are a bit higher than I'm used to but in line with most stores in the area and these guys sell the good stuff. Recommended if in Helen or if passing through to more remote areas.
