On cask at The Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, UK on 7.28.09

A: Thick woodsy brown hue, very dark, with a cappuccino-colored 1 finger head that shows medium-sized carbonation bubbles. Pretty sweet lacing that looks like the profile of a mountain range on the side of the pint glass.

S: Lots of roasted and chocolate malts, as well as semi-sweet toffee notes. Some coffee grinds too. Rich but delicate. Balanced with a bit of hop bitterness in there. Incredibly nice aroma.

T & M: Dry, robust dark chocolate bite. A little creamy with some sips. The mouthfeel really dominates the taste though: a little gritty, medium carbonation. Satisfying without being too rich or coating the palate. Dry, bitter aftertaste. Like a toned down Stone RIS.

D: It's a complex and engaging offering that I would try again, but putting down more than 2 pints would be tough.
