On cask, via gravity fed pin, @ Meridian Pint (Washington, D.C.) on 5/4/12. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a dark cherry red color in the glass, topped with a thin head of white foam. This retains with some very light ringing around the edges, leaving back just a light smattering of lacing down the sides. The aroma smells of straight up cherries, with a touch of crisper wheat character along the back. Maybe just a very light leafy presence hangs on the edges of the nose as well.

The taste, much like the aroma, is just pure cherry puree with a light pale wheat backing and then some minimal leafy bitterness. It’s pretty straight forward overall with a finish that is dry and a touch bitter. The mouthfeel is lighter to medium bodied with a prickly crispness in the mouth. Overall, this is pretty firm feeling for a cask beer.

While not overly complex in any way, this still gives you what you want out of this type of Ale. Cherry and plenty of it, while still offering just enough extra character as to not get overloaded on it. This was tasty and inoffensive and drank well on cask.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a dark pink/violet color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of wheat, light cherries. Taste is wheat, tart, mild cherries in the background. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer, but I was expecting a bit more cherry in the aroma and flavor.

Poured from the can into a wheat ale glass.

Talk and lanky body that comes off almost like a light marzen/doppelbock in color. Deep reddish brown, but leans towards more of a clay like red, with some orange highlights. Fine carbonation but mostly opaque, and a good sized reaching three fingers off pink to khaki like colored head. Swiss cheese retention and clingy lace round out the top with a good cap, making for one neat looking wheat ale. Very nice and unique looking brew.

Very spicy nose surprisingly along with the expected fruit. Slightly wet sensing, but a peppery and almost clove like phenol mixing in with a touch of warm cherry. No hinting sweetness of sugars or syrup rush is present which makes for a more pleasant character. Hints almost tangy acidic actually.

Palate is quite unexpected. There's a bit of richness to the body here, that is full and almost thick malted, with a good chewy density. Mid palate is fruity but the big tone isn't so much cherry as the hop content. Spiced herb and bitter hop help to cut through a thick cherry body for nice warming flavor. Aftertaste really exposes a black pepper and cherry like finish and very lingering bitterness.

Very unexpected fruit ale, as this is far more hoppy than one is to believe. It masks a bit too much of the cherry flavors, making for an interesting brew, but will probably leave many fruit beer fans a bit disappointed.

I had this on cask at Max's, poured into an imperial pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy red amber color with a finger of fluffy off white head that leaves a small layer. Unfortunately, this is the best part of this beer.

Smell: Sweet tart cherry with hints of vanilla and caramel. Smells strong and slightly off, but I can't place the flavor.

Taste: Strange flavor to this beer. Tart cherries and some malt sweetness. Very bitter throughout the whole sip. A bit butter, almost tastes like bitter cherry yogurt.

Mouthfeel: Medium to thin body, sticks to the mouth with a slick oily finish.

Overall: I'm really not a big fan of this beer at all. The smell and the taste had an off quality that reminded me of cherry yogurt. I'm still a huge fan of this brewery though.

Reviewed from notes. On tap at Victoria Gastropub.

Pours a moderate ruby amber color with a slight head. A bit of lacing. Nose is slight cherry with caramel and a bit of sweet malt The taste brings some very light hops as well as cherries. Light toffee and malt. Light feel with good carbonation. Drinks well and is a nice, sessionable brew.

The beer pours an interesting orange cherry red color, albeit with minimal head retention and lacing. On the nose I get quite a bit of sour cherry, but really not much else. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose, with this beer tasting very much what it is. In other words, it tastes like a very bland american style wheat beer, with a lot of cherry flavor added. So that's really all that I taste - cherry flavor with a bit of underlying sour. The beer comes across as light, simple and pleasant. Frankly, I'm surprised the alcohol is as high as it is in this beer.

Poured into a pint glass, it pours an amber color w/ ruby tones, very clean and clear, leaving a 1/4" thin white head that dissipates to a thin edge layer.

Aroma is slightly of cherries with a hoppy body along with some caramel and wheat tones. Pretty mild, however, cigarette smoke in this establishment makes it more difficult to smell.

A slightly sour and tart cherry flavor up front with a bit of hop bitterness; crisp with a huge cherry-ginger finish and aftertaste; rather enjoyable on a hot day!

Prickly carbonation up frontwith a light, crisp body is how I would describe this one. A very refreshing beer on a day when the heat index was approaching 105 degrees (F)!!! Not much drying or alcohol.

Overall, the sweetness/tartness of this brew makes it difficult to drink in larger quantities. In fact, I had one pint, and that was plenty for me. Enjoyable though for the most part.

No beer should ever, ever take twenty minutes (no exaggeration) to calm down and get me my pint. I watched. Gillys had to literally carb it up because it arrived with no carb. I mean I really enjoyed my bottle of creator and destroyer but what the hell. Tastes alright.
