An otherwise decent beer is sabotaged by 2 things: it has an overly bitter aftertaste and it sits on your stomach like 10 tons of bricks.

On tap at the source. A clear, deep copper-brown color with a modest off white head. The aroma was primarily cherries, caramel, brown bread, and toffee. Bitter up front with fruity, floral notes. Sweet and malty. Some toffee, burnt caramel, and cherries. A hint or orange on the finish. I was left with a ringing bitterness which distracted from the taste, but this was nice.

When I want a classic English Strong Ale this is is. Malty, big, a bit boozy, caramel, and extremely balanced. A great English Strong Ale from a great Baltimore English brewer. Pours dark brown, with nice firm head. Notes of leather, caramel, toast on the nose. Taste? Consistent on the nose but sweet dark caramel, a bit of cigar and cedar on a warming toasted big finish. Right at the end a nice big finish with the alcohol and hops to balance. Great scott! This is good.

Pours a finger and half of head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is dark dry grains.
The taste is caramel, muted apricot sweetness, molasses with a long tingle finish.
The texture is crisp and fizzy.
It has great flavor.
