The beer poured black with a tan head. The aroma was of dark fruit and malt. The taste was of dark fruit, toasted malt, and a pleasant alcohol burn. The feel was medium and wet. A very nice cherry/dark fruit tasting stout. Another fine offering from Oliver's.

On tap at the Brewery. Pours dark dark dark...decent head for a stout. White and brown swirly head - nice.
Smells of coffee and vanilla.
Sparkle of carbonation in the mouth...soda like? What?! Ever have a Manhattan Special? No not that kind...
Taste is very nice. Chocolate/ coffee/ vanilla (not in that order). I'm not usually a stout drinker but this sounded interesting, and it was. Although a bit high on the carbonation for me, a very good and balanced stout. Deff worth a try.

On tap at Max's today.

The beer pours a very dark brown color with good head retention and decent lacing. The nose is attractive, showcasing considerable dark chocolate, vanilla and light coffee. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this well made beer, with the beer nicely balanced by some decent bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a fairly long, fairly sweet finish. Drinkability is very, very good, with the alcohol barely noticeable.

While I prefer this on cask, this is just a lovely, easy to appreciate beer from Oliver brewing. I pretty much always order a glass whenever I see it on draft/cask.

A - Black as night body that stood still...three fingers worth of beige head that only receded to about two fingers...every time I took a sip, it looked like I had a milk mustache...patches of lacing clung to the glass

S - Holy melted chocolate...it's like someone melted down a Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar...there wasn't any bitterness or roastedness...just sweetness from the milk chocolate and vanilla

T - Well, there isn't much to write home about here...the nose replicates what is present on the palate...a lot of melted, milk chocolate...there isn't much bitterness or roasted flavors coming out and I was surprised since cacao nibs were used...the vanilla really adds something to the flavor though...it's like a touch of cream, giving the presence of chocolate milk

M - Full bodied...this one is smooth and creamy beyond belief...lots of melted chocolate

O - This was a great chocolate stout that was very indulgent...I don't know about have more than one or two though, as the ABV would catch up as well as the sweetness...I would take this over Bishop's Breakfast when it's available

Picked up a growler of this from the Pratt Street Ale House in Baltimore, MD. on 2/14/10, drinking on 2/15/10.

a - Poured a dark, dark black letting no light through. Also has no head of carbonation.

s - Smells strongly of chocolate and cocoa, roasted malts, coffee, and a little vanilla.

t - Sweet chocolate is the big taste here, but roasted malts and vanilla and evident as well. The coffee from the smell is not evident at all, and I don't think the alcohol is either. Very nice taste.

m - Smooth and creamy, relatively full bodied with no carbonation. Feels pretty thick in your mouth.

d - Overall I really liked this stout. I'm a big chocolate stout fan and this is rich with a sweet chocolate smell and flavor. I orginally went to try the My Monkey's Got Wood but when they offered me a free sample of this with it, I couldn't resist. I bought a growler of it from the sample and am very glad I did; hopefully next time I go back they'll have this around again.

A seasonal on-tap at the Pratt Street Ale House. Served in a snifter glass.

A: The stout is dark, forboding and brooding in the snifter. It sits very still, no indication of carbonation and no head whatsoever.

S: The nose is sweet chocolate, very similar to the Cocaoabunga that I just had. Roasted malts are present, adding darker aromas as well. The 8% booze can't hide, adding a near-fusel dose of heat.

T: Much like the nose, there's no hiding the sweet chocolate in the stout. Milk chocolate, rich and extravagent, sets the stage early. Walking hand-in-hand with the chocolate is a good bit of booze, far more that you'd expect for a 8% stout. The roasted malts, coffee and burnt toast, occasionally pop up, mostly though they remain hidden behind the indulgent chocolate.

M: Sweet chocolate, that's all you need to know. The stout is almost, but not quite, over the top in terms of sweetness.

D: After a long day, I finished most but not all of my glass. A good stout that needs a warm fireside to really enjoy.
