pours with a about a half inch of head. Very dark a almost black red brown in color. Great lacing. Low retention. Light in esters but awesome dark fruit plumey special B malt smell. Taste is sweet dark fruit with a bit of bitterness on the finish. It has nice body but finishes dry. Overall I really like this beer, extremely drinkable for its level of alcohol. A great example of a belgian dark strong.

Beer on draft at Churchkey. Beer is brown / orange and mostly clear, decent head, some lacing, moderate to low in carbonation.

Aroma is sweet and mild.

Beer is medium in body and a little yeasty / caramelly on the palate. It's pretty easy drinking but the ABV is getting to me...a lot. There could be more flavor just in general. I'd have it again, better than the cask version for sure.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

The beer appears dark brown / orange and is, for the most part, transparent. The head is nearly a half inch thick and leaves some decent lacing upon the tulip glass. The aroma consists of raisins, dates, dark fruit, subtle chocolates, malt, and alcohol. The aroma is superior to the taste, as the flavor is a bit hot and sweet. Alcohol presence is there throughout, making this a sipper. One small serving was plenty.

From the cask at Church Key DC poured into a nice wine goblet. Described off the menu as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale.

A thin soupy large bubbled brown head forms on a large dark red body. Really nice fantastic red hues on this dark red body, which is very dark to see through, not cloudy.

Bouquet on this one is remarkable empty. Literally I smell NOTHING.. lord I try and TRY again and there's NOTHING... okay... what's going on? Seriously shouldn't there be SOMETHING off this thing???

After tasting though, there is finally something to talk about. An instant cherry softness, but with a weak almost wet mouthfeel. Mild white chocolate sort of cocoa butter and vanilla in tastes as well on the finish. A very masked abv.

Pretty solid drinkability I would rate this much higher if it had some sort of bouquet but it doesn't. It makes me wonder if it was poured and aerated correctly.

On cask at 72 Hours of Belgium yesterday

Dark brown with reddish brown highlights, a little hazy, there's a nice head. The nose has roast, chocolate, caramel, burnt sugar and a little green, leafy English hop character. The hops are most prominent up front on the palate, with a little bitterness and a nice flavor. Caramel, sugar, buckwheat honey and a little coffee and chocolate are present. Bitterness is mild. Light and sweet, this is solid stuff. Alcohol is wonderfully well hidden. Medium-light in body with soft carbonation, this is quite enjoyable.
