Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Péché Mortel (French for "Mortal Sin") is an intensely black and dense beer with very pronounced roasted flavours. Fair trade coffee is infused during the brewing process, intensifying the bitterness of the beer and giving it a powerful coffee taste. Péché mortel is brewed to be savored; we invite you to drink it in moderation.

This stout style, high in alcohol and bitterness in order to favour preservation, was historically brewed to support the long and arduous voyage necessary to export the beer from England to Russia. The word Imperial comes from the fact that the beer was specially brewed for the Russian tsar’s court.

11.5 fl oz bottle poured into a Toppling Goliath snifter glass

A- Pours a big mocha brown frothy head, 3 fingers worth. Head dissipates slowly, very sticky lacing. The color is pitch black, absolutely no light coming through this one.
S- The aroma is amazing, one of the biggest coffee aromas i have ever smelled in a beer. Big roasty notes, roasted coffee beans, malt, roasted dark cocoa.
T- Big big coffee taste, love it, like drinking straight up cold coffee, big roasted notes, bitter cocoa, slight chocolate taste but very minimal, roasted coffee takes over this one.
M- Big mouthfeel, this one coats your palate with nice coffee notes, very sticky, taste lingers for a while, well carbonated.
O- I've only had this one time before back when i first got into beer, and i was too much of a rookie back then to really appreciate this one. I love this beer, and wish it was more available in the States. If your a coffee lover this is the beer for you. The alcohol in this one being at 9.5% is no where to be seen. Highly recommend this.

Appearance: black as ink with foamy brown head.

Smell: dark roasted coffee, almost burnt. Also a slight cannula cream smell.

Taste: SO much coffee. Not much else besides that though.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, very smooth, slightly oily finish.

Overall: Asolutely amazing coffee stout. One dimensional, but when the brewery perfects that one dimension, there isn't a need to be complex

Had this before, but having it again so I can properly review it.

11.5 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Jet black pour with a light brown head that stayed around for a while. Lacing all the way down.
S: Dark roasted malts and coffee. Maybe a hint of molasses.
T: Follows the nose. Dark malts and coffee dominate the taste. Bitter finish that lingers for a while.
M: Not thick as some, but really creamy and invites you to take another sip. Very drinkable for the ABV.
O: Awesome. If you enjoy coffee stouts a la Founder's Breakfast Stout or KBS, this will be right up your alley as it is mine.
